Is John Stewart’s One Night Stand In Lanterns Accurate?

So I’m fairly newer to the character of John Stewart and my only real exposure to him was through JL/JLU. I see how based on this first episode of Lanterns we see that he’s been working on becoming a GL his entire life, is very disciplined, respects/obeys the chain of command, and says he doesn’t trust anyone. Then he does a quick truck hookup?

I couldn’t help but feel that this was inconsistent with what’s been shown and I wanted to ask fans more knowledgeable about him if he’d do something like this. My problem isn’t with the sexual content. I loved Peacemaker and enjoyed Game of Thrones, my issue is when it’s out of character for someone to do something. Honestly I feel like Guy would have done this while he was in training.

In Lanterns Episode 1, Green Lantern John Stewart is a confirmed Vegan which is different from canon. As a DC Comics fan, are you in favor of this change or not?

Lifelong Green Lantern fan - Lanterns Season 1 - theories (spoilers)

Hey all - I’ve owned or read almost every major GL story thru 2018. I love show and have a few thoughts.

- Lanterns is an HBO prestige show first, and a DCU show 2nd. It’s clear watching the show, reading the interviews and listening to official podcast the show’s format and direction is as an HBO prestige drama. Most traditional comic book tropes won’t likely happen and spectacle will be 2nd to story. I’d also expect multiple seasons (2-4). The storyline also will be original and not draw directly from any specific storyline.
- Hal is dead and will stay dead. Similar to other HBO prestige format shows, Hal’s death will remain for at least the rest of the season, but probably indefinitely. Hal will still appear in the past, as a ring construct, and an alien imposter. The shows tension of 1 ring for 2 guys will continue in the past and not be resolved until at least episode 5.
- The Story. Looking at the story elements, it will still be an original story, but I think elements are coming from the GL origin story. NOT Emerald Dawn, but GL Secret Origins. I believe the mystery will reveal Abin Sur died after starting to uncover the sins of the Guardians. The villains will be the Five Inversions (led by Atrocious), the lone survivors of the Manhunter massacre. Rather than Ysmault, I think the Lanterns Five Inversions fled to Earth. Manhunters will be involved but won’t be the true villains, the true villains will be revealed to be the Guardians and the cover-up. The loyal duty driven John Stewart is sought out by the Guardians as they trust ring selected GLS less, as they (Abin Sur, Sinestro and Hal) have uncovered more of the secrecy of the Guardians failure rather than “doing their job.” Waylon Sanders and others are Manhunters coming to Earth to finish the job. Zoe Macon, Anton and others will be the hunted Five Inversions.

This Five Inversions start builds the structure to allow for a continued unfolding mystery and conspiracy but opens up a path to Sinestro Corp all the way to the Blackest Night.

Rank from the best to worst

Earth has many green lanterns from Hal Jordan to Jo Mullein, but if we rank them from the strongest to the weakest this is my list:

1-Hal Jordan

2- Kyle Rayner

3- John Stewart

4-Guy Gardner

5- Jessica Cruz

6- Simon BAZ

7- Jo Mullein

Lanterns Ep1 (Pilot) Review (NO SPOILERS) | Is HBO’s Green Lantern Serie...

In this video, I give my non-spoiler review of Lanterns Episode 1, sharing my first impressions of the new Green Lantern series and whether the premiere actually works.

I talk about the show's take on John Stewart, Hal Jordan, the Green Lantern mythos, the tone, performances, writing, visuals, and overall direction without spoiling the episode for anyone who hasn't watched it yet.

While I discuss the premiere, I'm also penciling pages from Zatswan, my own original superhero comic. So if you enjoy Green Lantern, DC Comics, superhero discussion, indie comics, comic book art, or watching a comic creator work while talking through the latest superhero projects, this one is for you.

Does Lanterns Episode 1 deliver? Does it feel like a strong start for Green Lantern in the DCU? And most importantly, does it leave me wanting to see where the series goes next?

Let me know what you thought of the premiere in the comments, but please keep major spoilers clearly marked for anyone who hasn't seen it yet.

You can learn more about Zatswan at Zatswan.com.

Actor Stephan James was famously the runner-up for the role of Green Lantern John Stewart. Which DC Comics or Marvel hero do you think he could play instead?

u/nightwing612 — 5 days ago

If a non-GL DC Comics hero showed up in the DCU Lanterns TV show, who do you think it should be? My picks would be Hawkgirl, Martian Manhunter or Green Arrow

in 2007, Warner Bros' first choice for Green Lantern John Stewart was actor Columbus Short for the DC Comics Justice League: Mortal movie which never got made. If he did not turn down the role and it pushed through, do you think he would have been good?

With less than a week to go, how excited and ready are you for the DCU Lanterns show as a DC Comics John Stewart fan? Are you the type to watch every teaser/trailer or the type to avoid everything until the show drops?
