This is Jay from the Digital Team at KEXP. I have a family issue that needs attention, and as such won't be going to the BBQ as planned. I am GIVING away my two(2) tickets to the BBQ and looking for someone who wants them. I only have two, and cannot get more.

I am sure there will be a lot of interest in these tickets, so here is what I'm gonna do to make this fair. First, please reply with if you want both, or just one, but I'd rather just give them both away to same person. For folks that reply they are interested, I will put your username into a lottery and randomly select one person who I will then contact directly. If no response after an hour, I'll draw another name until I make contact with someone. I'll keep this open for today, then stop collecting names tonight around 9PM and start reaching out Thursday 8/20. I'll update this post when given away.

Once selected, I'll need the full names and email to re-assign them. They may be marked as "KEXP Staff Guest", but doesn't matter. I spoke with the team organizing, and they assure me you can get in with the associated QR code.

Again, I didn't pay for the tickets, and will NOT accept any kind of payment or "thank you" in return, just want them used by one of you (you just aren't allowed to ever say bad things about the mobile apps...kidding!!!).

Just a shout out to say how wonderful it’s been having so much Kevin Sur this week! I know many feel the same way, but he’s been a favorite of mine for a long time and I’m so happy to hear more of him across so many shows recently. He just always nails the vibe and transitions so well. He also just seems like such a genuinely lovely person

Hey everyone, I will be in town this weekend and I saw that Angine de Poitrine will be playing. My fiancé and I just lost our home to a fire and I thought it would be such a good thing to see the band bc we have wanted to for quite some time, but then I saw that tickets are sold out. The third ticket is for my sister who will be in town with us.

Hi everyone. I got a little overzealous with the + button during the presale and bought one more ticket than needed. Selling for $60. Can do Zelle, Venmo, etc. I can also meet day-of for cash, though I’d rather settle it sooner.

I have tickets for the BBQ on Saturday and am planning on bringing my 6 and 3 year old. I see that no picnic blankets are allowed so I'm curious what others have done for their kids in past events? Also, I see that strollers are allowed but does anybody know if that also applies to wagons? Thanks!

I got this as part of a ticket sale on this forum, but I don’t have or know any kids to give this to. I figure even if everyone has a ticket for their kid maybe they’d want to bring a friend?

This will grant admission to any child 12 and under.

Mostly what the title states, but can we bring something like a small backpack chair or collapsible chair/stool to the BBQ? My spouse is currently unable to stand for longer than an hour at a time without needing to rest and sit for a time. I can't find anything explicitly stated on the site about this, so hoping someone here can help.

Over the past few months, my routine started getting a bit busier and my free time became more and more scarce, so, unintentionally, I ended up cutting down on my screen time. The downside, though, was that I also stopped keeping up with news, new releases, discussions on the internet in general, and one of the main things where I started feeling like I was “out of the loop” was the bands and artists getting coverage.

I’ve always been a bit of a KEXP, Tiny Desk, La Blogotheque rat, but lately I realized I’d gone months without keeping up with what was coming out on those channels. So I had the idea of making a simple script that would keep track of all these channels and send me an email roundup of all the full sessions that were being published there. I mentioned the project to a few friends, and one of them asked me to add him to the emails. That’s when it clicked: this could actually be an open newsletter.

And that’s how Motif came about: a weekly newsletter, sent every Friday, that collects links to all the full sessions from KEXP, NPR (Tiny Desks only), Audiotree, La Blogothèque, and Cultura Livre (A Brazilian music channel, I’m from Brazil btw).

The project had been running locally just for me for a little while, but this more polished version, now open to the public, is officially going live today. So if you happen to find any bugs or have any suggestions, feel totally free to let me know. I’m planning to keep adding new channels and sources, and maybe even do some more personal curation and reviews down the line, if the project ends up growing.

PS: I’m not sure if this kind of post is allowed on this sub, but since I figured it might be something people here would be interested in, I decided to post it. The newsletter is completely free and there’s no commercial intent behind it. Just a passion project.

Former listener here with some venting and an ask for alternative station recs.

So, not a supporter of the station any longer as I grew, over time, to absolutely hate the content and realized it was the DJs + format that were the problem.

Listening to KEXP feels like being indoctrinated into a cult. This is particularly the case with a specific, to-be-unnamed DJ whose emphasis on mental health -- presented in the most cult-like manner possible, complete with a "you are not alone" mantra that's repeated as a sort of thought-terminating cliche which would be at home in any actual cult -- is so cloying I simply cannot stomach it, but many of the other DJs give off similar "cult leader" vibes as well. I will concede the overnight DJs are often great, but I'm generally not listening at 3am.

When you combine the amount of time the station's hosts spend on air, the cult-like ethos of that presence, and then the extreme number of specialty shows the station has (even "variety mix" shows will turn into specialty shows, such as Thursday afternoons when the host plays terrible deep cuts from their 90s childhood), well, the station is simply unlistenable.

In fairness, some of the over-presence of the DJs can be ascribed to changing format preferences where hosts are encouraged to be more present on air, but that alone doesn't explain my extreme dislike. It's the DJs themselves. It's the cult-like quality to their presence. It's the excessive number of specialty shows. Now, a station without a DJ is, of course, just a Spotify playlist, but there seems to be some sort threshold between present/far too present that's been crossed with KEXP.

I just cannot stomach the station any longer. This station has many, many problems, both with its current format and with DJs who've clearly been employed for far too long (enforcing staff turnover really does have benefits...and KEXP could benefit from a large amount of enforced staff turnover).

So with my venting out of the way, hopefully in a respectful way while conveying my extreme dislike for the station, does anyone here have recommendations given that I can't handle KEXP any longer? All recommendations appreciated. Right now I'm listening to MPR's "The Current," but they have a too-short preferred playlist and have played the Brandon Flowers "Plans" single approx. 37 times in the past few hours alone (if you think this is complaining, then don't get me started on the "cosplay cowboy" thing that's happening in music today).

So...recommendations anyone?

I’ve tried multiple times to find out and no one there knows. Do you think they’re purposely not publishing it because of AdP?

Reaching out to my fellow music lovers. I have committed to doing Karaoke this weekend. This is a lifelong dream. While I am a performer for sure, Im not a singer. I'm not terrible though. I would like to do a duet with my friend who is a talented vocalist. She can pretty much do anything.

Any suggestions for songs that we can duet? She woukd be the lead and I would add in. Example would be White Stripes Rag n Bone. She would do Jack's parts and I could so Meg's.

I have until Friday night to pick a song and practice.

Not sure which company or party is responsible for making this feasible but just wanted to say that I listen to SO much more kexp since I can stream it on my Sonos speakers then I would otherwise. Really grateful that it works. There's some other radio stations id like to listen to but you can't access them through the Sonos app so I don't. Keep it up 🤙
