The heck is dripping and how do I make it stop

Our friends gave their extra one to us years ago and it's always done this, idk how to make it stop, where it's coming from, or what it is!

It happens when it is running, when it's not, when there's an attachment or none, so pretty much all the time no matter what

Food processor blade

This is the bane of my existence. It takes 200 tries before this thing drops in. There has to be a trick that I can’t figure out. 3 college degrees and I’m stumped by an appliance. Lol

Tilt Head Bowl Clearance Issue

Hi all,

I’m having an issue trying to adjust the bowl clearance on my Artisan Series 5 qt tilt head mixer and hoping someone here could give me some guidance.

I was recently mixing some pizza dough (only on speed 2) and experienced some kick back on the mixer head. Without doing any research, I tightened the adjustment screw thinking that would help.

Everything seemed fine until the next time I used the mixer. I was mixing cookie dough with the paddle attachment and when I lifted it up, I noticed the enamel on the bottom had chipped off.

Now I have a stainless steel attachment and just tried to do the dime test to readjust the bowl clearance. However, it seems that no matter which way I turn the adjustment screw, the paddle is still fully in contact with the bowl. The adjustment screw doesn’t seem to be stripped.

Is it possible that something could be broken internally from when I was mixing the pizza dough?

Any guidance would be appreciated. Thank you!

How to choose?

I recently became the owner of a third KitchenAid mixer and I need to decide which one (or two) to keep. Here's the story:

I bought myself the black mixer from Sam's Club when I got married in 2020. It was manufactured in 2020. I have some issues with attachment positioning, which I've attempted to fix using guides online, but ultimately I just end up using hose seals to lift the bowl a bit. I don't use this one a ton - just when i'm making really big batches of things. It came with a smaller bowl and whisk attachment but I barely use it since I have another mixer. Model number: KP25MOXBM.

In 2022, I won the purple mixer in a giveaway. It was manufactured in 2022. I use it often (most cookies and cakes, weekly loaf of sandwich bread, etc) but it is pretty jumpy. I have to stay with it when it's kneading bread to make sure it doesn't fall off the counter. Model number: KSM150PSLR

A few weeks ago, I cleaned out a storage unit belonging to a relative and I took the blue mixer. It was manufactured in 2009. I haven't used it yet, but it is leaking a bit of oil so it will need at least a little maintenance before regular use. Model number: KSM500QBW

I have to admit, it's nice having two mixers on days like thanksgiving and when hosting bigger dinners. But in reality, I could probably get the same benefit just by having extra bowls. I certainly can't justify three mixers...I can barely justify two other than I have a place to store them both. Would love some input on what is best to keep, or advice on how to make the decision. Thanks in advance!

EDIT to add: They are stored in a tall open cabinet under my range, so the size/height is not a factor.

Would you replace this original 241803 worm gear?

This is my first kitchen aid and I found it at goodwill for $90

During the process I’m rebuilding my KitchenAid K45SS. I cleaned the original 241803 worm follower gear and don’t see any chipped teeth or cracks.

Would you reuse it, or replace it while I have the mixer apart?

Or would it smart to get a new oem part?

Thanks!

Metal shavings how to fix?

I’ve recently been gifted a second hand artisan kitchen aid from my mother in law. She said she literally used it once 12 months ago and it has been sitting on the shelf unused for many months. I’ve turned it on and initially there was a squeaking noise on each rotation of the mixer. Chat gpt advised it might be the grease settled and to run it for a few mins. I did that and the squeak stopped. I then left running for another 1-2 mins on 2 speed with the dough attachment and nothing in the bowl and then I started noticing metal shaving coming from around the spinner. I of course turned it off as soon as I noticed this. Any ideas of what could be wrong and how to fix it?

What is this plastic arm called?

My wife put a little too much dough in the mixer and melted this plastic arm that is tied to the speed control. Need to find a replacement part. Hopefully there isn’t more damage but I tested it and it still works.

Are Spiral Dough Hooks bad for K5SS Vintage Mixers?

I have a K5SS bowl lift mixer that I purchased as a factory refurbished unit well over twenty years ago. About 80 percent of my use has been kneading bread dough in amounts of one to two one pound loaves at a time. I’ve used it steadily since I’ve owned it, and it has served me well over the years. About a year and a half ago, I noticed the enamel coating on the dough hook and paddle beater were beginning to chip, so I replaced both of them with uncoated stainless steel implements. I couldn’t find a suitable uncoated C style dough hook, so I purchased a nifty spiral model. Before purchasing I ensured that both implements were compatible with my model of mixer.

I’m particularly pleased with the new spiral dough hook. Not only is it beautiful to look at, it kneads dough much more efficiently than the original, and it taxes the motor less than the original.

I recently had the mixer serviced. After replacing the motor brushes and a regrease, it runs like a new machine.

Just yesterday, in another Kitchenaid forum on the internet, a poster asked about getting a stainless dough hook for a K5SS like mine. I recommended this specific spiral hook. To my absolute surprise, a number of respondents said spiral hooks will ruin the gearbox on my mixer, sooner rather than later. I was astounded, not only at the number, but the intensity of these recommendations. Rather than simply reject them out of hand, I want to ask the experts in this forum if such claims can be validated.

I’ve seen nothing official from Kitchenaid about these hooks. Notably the newer, high capacity professional models come with spiral hooks nowadays. These machines have notably weaker gearboxes than my vintage mixer.

Should I continue to use my spiral hook, or should I replace it with an older style one? Has anything been documented regarding damage from these hooks, or should I reject this as hearsay based on use of improperly sized spiral hooks?

Choices

My 30+ year old Kitchenaid is dying and we are considering options for a new one. I think we want the larger lift model. My husband bakes. We are considering the Costco model as well as refurbs on the website. Thought?

Choosing Artisan Plus color

I currently have the artisan in plumberry I've had for years but I'm planning on getting the new artisan plus because it solves many of my complaints about KA mixers. I just can't decide on what color to get and don't live near a retailer that carry's the new model. I thought I loved feather pink, but it looks really beige except on WS website. So I'm worried irl it won't look the same in person. I'm also interested in cardamom and juniper but I'm worried juniper will look more grey blue than dark green in my kitchen since it seems to change color based on lighting. Lastly I could go with porcelain white but my kitchen is all black and white so I'd prefer to bring in a color. My Ankarsrum is crème color.

5ksm160 sound normal?

My 2022 5ksm160 sounds like it has a bit of a low grinding or oscillating noise, but I'm not sure if this is normal. I've just regreased the gears and all gears showed no signs of wear.

See two videos, one with the machine fully assembled where the low noise is more pronounced and ill try post a second video in comments wlwith just the motor running and maybe it looks a little jerky.

Any ideas on whether something is wrong and of so what?

Thanks very much.

Paddle not reaching the bottom

Good afternoon, ive tried doing some research before coming here but ive had no luck. Ive always wanted a kitchenaid and finally decided to buy a unit second hand off marketplace. The model on the side is a K5SS the issue i am having is the paddle will not reach the bottom. I have tried using the adjustment screw but with no luck. I tossed a dime in the bowl but its probably an inch or so still away from the bottom. Please if you have any ideas please let me know. Im starting to suspect the attachments that came with this unit may be wrong. It came with a paddle, hook and whisk.

Excitedly waiting for my first KitchenAid to arrive

Hi there!

I’ve been dreaming of having a KitchenAid and have finally pulled the trigger on a second hand one - see pics. It’s a well-loved 5KPM50.

I’d love your recommendations for a number of things:
- what dough hook would you upgrade to?
- would you upgrade the whisk?
- any advice on spraying it? I’ve looked at a few YouTube videos and may attempt this. If there are any products you swear by to do it (UK) let me know

Mainly also just sharing my excitement! I bake a lot, and also make sourdough and pizza weekly / bi-weekly so this will get a lot of love. Any other recommendations (accessories you swear by etc) very welcomed.

Thanks 😊

Help! My KitchenAid paddle is chipped. Should I throw away the cake?

I just made a pound cake so that I can chop it up into a trifle. After I put the cake in the oven I went to wash my paddle attachment and noticed that some places were chipped. I’m going to throw the paddle away and get a stainless steel one so I don’t have to worry about this happening again, but should I toss out the cake? Will the chips hurt me if they did get in the batter?

Thrift find 👀

Is $120 too expensive? Needs to be cleaned. I think this is the matcha color. I might have a 20% off coupon lol
