staff i need your help

k so basically i’ve worked at kumon for about 4 months so you would think that i would know pretty much everything about at least regular grading right? well yea but i still have trouble with sample answer questions and im a bit scared to ask anyone that works at my place cuz i should know by now 😭 so can anyone help? do the answers have to have similar ideas as the answer key or does it just have to make sense grammatically and have all the key words? like let’s say the sample answer includes someone jumping over a fence to get to the beach but the student answer only includes jumping the fence. is that acceptable? please help me 😭🙏

Any Galaxy S10 users?

Buying a new tablet for my daughter and looking to get the Galaxy S10 FE. On Kumon's supported device list it only goes up to S9. Samsung is all the way up to S11- seems weird the new devices wouldn't work for some reason.

Does anybody use an S10 for Kumon Connect with no issue?

What is the recommended # of pages/sheets per day? [English]

I was placed in Level E (E1?) for English; I'm using a tablet so I don't have to go in-person (unless I really need to for corrections)..how many pages would you recommend? I honestly have a lot of time but don't want to spend too much time on it, haha.

Does Kumon actually improve mathematical thinking, or mainly speed and practice?

Hi everyone,

My 6-year-old son has an appointment for his first assessment (math) at a Kumon center. We live in Paris, France, where Kumon isn't very well known.

His main challenge is staying focused and paying attention in class. I'm hoping Kumon will help him improve his concentration, but I was also hoping he would learn math in a different way—similar to how it's taught in some Asian countries, since those education systems have a strong reputation for producing students who excel in mathematics.

Am I misunderstanding what Kumon is? Should I choose another method ? Which one ?

I'm a little concerned about the apparent lack of emphasis on mathematical reasoning. I understand that the early levels are intentionally very simple to build solid foundations, but what about the more advanced levels? Does Kumon eventually help children develop a deeper understanding of math, better problem-solving skills, and stronger mathematical thinking, or is it mainly about fluency and repetition?

I'd really appreciate hearing from parents whose children have been through the program. Thank you!

Should I drop my kids from Kumon

Hello.

I’m currently contemplating dropping my kids from Kumon. My oldest is entering 3rd grade in the fall and she’s ahead in math. I forget what level, however, I don’t think she truly understands multiplication because the concept isn’t enforced as much as the memorization is.

Personally, I didn’t do Kumon when I was little. My dad grabbed a pencil and paper and taught me and I understood the pattern in multiplication and just got really fast at multiplying.

My kids are competitive athletes. They will be going to extracurriculars 3-4 days out of the week.

I’m at a point where Kumon seems to just be getting in the way. And my oldest cries when she has to go.

It wasn’t like this before. She was okay with it at first.

We recently put it on hold for the month and it’s been so nice! I’ve been teaching her concept at home and she’s kind of had to remember some things that Kumon doesn’t focus on, such as, “6hundreds, 40 tens, and 8 ones is greater than…” and she has 4 options multiple choice to figure it out. And I feel that’s better than constant multiplication.

As for reading, she’s not a strong speller. Her current Kumon level focuses on comprehension, but she can’t spell so great on her own.

I feel like dropping because neither classes are offering what she really needs help in.

Any advice?

Worksheets to correct

What does this mean?

Do you have to answer/correct it again the day you answered and the day the instructor corrected it?

Should I quit?

I’m in 8th grade, going into 9th next school year, and I’ve been struggling on whether to quit or stay in Kumon, and to be honest I really hate going there but at the same time I’m worried if I don’t go there I’ll fall behind on my subjects, I am also currently on Level I of math and Level G for reading, does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do?
