Fine Dining/Cocktail Bars

I'm trying to figure out why every other city in this state seems to have a respectable fine dining & cocktail bar scene for their size and all Lewiston area seems to get is Baxter brew pub. Couldn't even hold on to Sonder and Dram, not that I would call that a cocktail bar. There's Blue Feather and maybe one other I can't remember.

Is it just a demographics issue? Do we not have enough people with disposable income around here? Or interest?

For example, $200k+ households... Are there any? Or do these people end up moving to Portland/Augusta/Bangor area? I'm sure these types of people live nearby and want to enjoy the finer things every once in awhile without driving an hour.

The domestic violence incidents that upended Jonathan Bush’s career

Jonathan Bush physically assaulted his first wife:

"After their older children left for school, Bush assaulted his first wife in a hallway while she held their 1-year-old son in her arms, according to court documents that also say she filed for divorce a few months before the November incident. Bush “screamed” into her face, calling her a “whore” and “disgusting person” while pushing her into a wall and “repeatedly slamming his closed fist into her sternum,” with his hand landing “just inches” from their baby.

In filing an emergency motion to make Bush leave their home, Selden Bush said the conditions in the home had “deteriorated dramatically” between June and November 2005, adding that the health and safety of her and the children were at risk. She also alleged Bush struck her on “numerous occasions” and once gave her a black eye, per court records.

Bush admitted to the November 2005 incident during a deposition the following year. He testified he was “unsure of where his hands had come in contact with” his first wife but said he “intended to touch her.” He also admitted on two other occasions to throwing a “small telephone” and “salt shaker” at her, putting holes in the wall."

Lewiston Teacher might resign this year after last nights budget vote...

26 year old teacher here. I will be tendering my letter of resignation for the end of the year. Very clear that the city of Lewiston and it's residents (mostly retired residents) simply do not care about their children or their schools.

How do you watch a district cut 100 positions in 4 years, try to cut 26 more, and you say it's not enough? The graduation rate is about to tank 15% because the city can't afford summer credit recovery or summer school. But don't worry, the expectation is a miracle with that graduation rate after taking 100 people out of the schools anyway, I am sure the expectations will remain the same.

So congratulations Lewiston. Your corrupt city council can give $7 million to the police department whenever they ask (how's crime going?) without a vote, but when it comes to educating your children they simply could not care less. Hitting the bare minimum funding threshhold every year for about 25 years. Also, waiting to do a re-evaluation for 15. I am glad that is being taken that out on the children and their future.

We are killing our schools and future.

Person From Away, New Mainah

Hi PFA New Mainer here. I've been living and working in Lewiston for 7 years and I'm wondering what else I can do to ruin the city?
