LS430 in Alberta

TThis is from my trip yesterday, from Vancouver, BC to Edmonton, Alberta. I wish I were able to drive back to Vancouver again! Really fun to drive.

Who wants to guess the car brand that I stole these rims from?

What should i do?

I have an 01 ls430 and want to lower it as i personally think the stock ride height is just a bit too high for my liking. I like the feel and the ride of the air suspension but yet again don’t like how high the car is, so do I go ahead and fit a full new adjustable air suspension system or just switch over to coilovers and lose that comfort of the air suspension?

Power steering pump

Bout to swap my power steering pump. I haven’t found a good video specifically about the pump.
Does anyone know the removal process?
Do I need to take the alternator out or just remove 1 bolt from it to push out the way?
I’m not experienced so any guidance towards this is nice

Old Yacht Visits Vancouver Island

Took the LS to Vancouver Island and somehow the 20-year-old yacht fit in everywhere, mountains, beaches, ancient forests.

The car handled the trip better than my spine did. There sure were some fast corridors between Kamloops and Hope that were sketchy with the undulations in the road, but it took it well.

Happy to answer anything about the trip too if anyone’s planning the island drive.

Anyway, enough of mine, would love to see your favourite LS road trip pics. I know some of you have these things in the most random beautiful places.

Gas smell

I occasionally get a gas/ sulfur smell in the cabin of the car when I accelerate on the freeway, but this is not an everyday occurrence, has anyone had this problem? I took it to a shop and they diagnosed it and could not find any problem I’m wondering if I’m having a fuel leak or if my catalytic converter is going bad

Please help

Good afternoon people of Ls430

I’m facing a terrible noise that start up. I’m concerned that this will affect or maybe even end my dream of keeping this car.
Things to know, I recently changed the belt, idler, pulley, and tensioner
As well as MAP sensor
There are no engine codes and oil is topped off. She does burn oil.
Please let me know if you need more information
Thank you

Rebuild or replace?

I have an 02 (PFL) with around 160k miles and the transmission feels like it’s on its way out. I had the car sitting for a while with a bad shift solenoid (p0770) which I replaced and the car has been running decent since, but still takes a few minutes to make enough fluid pressure to actually be able to engage the transmission while in drive.

I’ve seen many people with this problem, but even after 4 fluid changes and replacing the solenoids, it seems like maybe I’m looking at just getting a rebuild or replacement done.

If anyone has any recommendations, or previous experience with either the costs or the reliability post rebuild/ repair I’d loved to know.

Also any knowledge on the cost of rebuilding the engine would be appreciated, the car market is in such a bad spot I think putting 10-12k into an older car to completely fix the engine and trans makes more sense than spending so much on getting a loan on for a new car with the current market, especially on one that can be extremely reliable if done properly.
