Motherboard replacement last year, now display scanlines (LOQ 15IAX9) — Don't just settle for warranty swaps, file on NCH!

Specs / Model: Lenovo LOQ 15IAX9 (i5 / 16GB / RTX)

Status: Under Premium Care Onsite Warranty

Hey everyone,

Adding my unit to the growing list of LOQ hardware failures.

In my first year, the laptop suffered a complete motherboard failure and had to be replaced under warranty. Fast forward to now: while doing basic work, evenly spaced horizontal black lines (gate-driver scanline failure) appeared across the entire panel out of nowhere.

It persists inside the BIOS and during basic reboot, completely ruling out GPU drivers or OS updates. It is 100% a physical panel/COF bonding defect, likely tied to the known BOE display batch issues frequently discussed here.

Yes, Lenovo support raised an on-site ticket to swap the panel under Premium Care. But here is the reality we need to talk about:

A warranty repair is a legal obligation, not a favor.

When a machine suffers multiple core component failures (motherboard + display panel), replacing parts just resets the timer until our warranty runs out. Once warranty expires, a dead display or board will cost thousands out of pocket for an issue that was an inherent manufacturing defect from day one.

A quick PSA for Indian buyers facing this:

If your LOQ has faced repeated major part failures or delays, don't just rely on standard chat support. Lodge a formal grievance with the National Consumer Helpline (NCH / INGRAM):

Portal: consumerhelpline.gov.in

Toll-Free: Dial 1915

File under Lenovo India Private Limited with your case numbers, repair job sheets, and proof of defects.

Lenovo has a dedicated legal/compliance team that must answer to NCH dockets. If enough of us log our recurring issues officially instead of quietly taking part replacements, it creates an official paper trail for lemon products and forced accountability under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.

Has anyone successfully requested an AUO panel over BOE during their replacement, or managed to get a full unit replacement after sequential board/display deaths? Would love to hear your experiences.

Bought my first Refurb Lenovo: LOQ

Hi guys, after days, weeks and even months of waiting for good deals and missing out on all the "steal deals" due to current price hike, I have finally succumbed to my hesitation and took this risk. A very tough decision for me since I needed something for the next 4-5 years and I can't afford another laptop if things go south.

I've been following this subreddit for a while looking at guys getting 5050 at 70k or something, some asking people to stay away from refurbs, many praising their amazing machines, others utterly regretting their choice to go with refurbs or lenovo.

Here to ask if this deal would be worth it? Also, please guide me towards how to take care of this machine since I have no experience with gaming laptops at all (I'm a 1st yr student btech CS AIML)

Thanks everyone in advance!!

Finally landed: Legion Pro 5 Gen 10 (8945HX / RTX 5060) refurb from Lenovo Outlet for ₹1.40L

Ordered on 25 Sept from Lenovo Outlet (certified refurbished), delivered 9 Oct. Blue Dart kept it at the Tumakuru hub for 8 days with the "EDL delay" status, and no helpline number connected. It showed up anyway.

Specs:

Ryzen 9 8945HX

RTX 5060 8 GB (115 W)

16 GB DDR5-5200 (single stick, 2 slots)

1 TB SSD

16" 2560×1600 IPS, 500 nits, 240 Hz, 100% DCI-P3

24-zone RGB keyboard

1-year onsite warranty

Condition: not a scratche and smells very much like a new machine. The nearest new configuration on Lenovo India is about ₹2.26L.

Help wanted from Legion owners:

For the second RAM stick, which 16 GB DDR5-5200 SODIMM do you run, and any compatibility issues?

Lenovo Vantage or Legion Toolkit for day-to-day fan and power control?

Anything you'd check in the first week on a refurb? I'm planning a battery report, SSD health and a Cinebench thermal run.

Will post temperatures and battery health once tested.

Some query about ADP.

Hey everyone, here is the situation: I own a Lenovo LOQ with a 13th-generation processor, an RTX 4050, and 24 GB of RAM. I purchased it for ₹72K. A few days ago, the charging socket and port overheated. The laptop began blinking red on the charging indicator and blue on the power button. Customer service said they would replace either the laptop or the motherboard.

The question is whether an exchange would provide a model in the ₹72K range or a replacement now priced above ₹1 lakh.?
