PSA: get a windshield protection

When I bought the car I was on the fence by I decided to buy the protection anyway, given how steep the windshield is. Well, about 500 miles in, I got my first crack 🤦‍♂️

Orange

Not mine - seen in the wild today~

Love seeing something other than another neutral color palette.

6-months in

Still in love with my GX550 Premium+! Absolutely no issues with 6,000 miles so far.

Considering adding a roof rack, I like the idea of the Land Cruiser half rack. Might also powder coat the wheels.

Questions from FJ Owner.

I've owned a 2014 FJ for a decade. 200k+, looking at another toyota/lexus. Only gx is appealing.

Questions:

  1. I've heard the ride is rough, so long as it's not rougher than an FJ I am fine. Is it rougher than an FJ?

  2. I saw a video of a guy reviewing the undercarriage and he mentioned how nice all the components were on the kixury edition, are the undercarriage components nicer on the luxury edition?

  3. I've heard overtrail + is softer on the highway than luxury + or premium + and this is largely due to the tires on the luxury+ model. If you changed the tires on all 3 models to 265/75's will they all ride the same or is there really a difference in the ride?

  4. What offroad features does the ot+ have that the Luxury+ does not?

  5. Can you manually downshift like you can with the FJ? I saw a video of a guy towing downhill and the vehicle was downshifting automatically.

  6. Does it beat the Fj I'm impact safety ratings?

  7. Can a rear locker be added to the luxury+?

Right now my plan is to go Luxury + but then add offroad tires and full skid plates. Tires should soften the road ride but add offroad capability as I go to the gun range twice a month and getting to and from the range is pretry rough both down and uphill. Then where I live we have pretty serious winters as well.

Overtrail Ride Quality

I wanna hear every onwers opinion about the oveetrail's ride quality..

I have had mine since march 2026 and to be honest i Just do not like how it rides ( it's my moms).

I own a 2022 Lc150 kdss non avs non air suspension( pasive dampers).

Thats my daily, it its firm and well controlled...

I have never been into a gx460, nor 4runner to be honest...

Thing is even if i set tires to 32psi cold...

I never feel this vehicle settled, its just constantly vibrating while driving... on my butt.

My prado doesnt vibrate at all, nothing...

I test drove an lx600 and the AHC has no comparisson... its night and day to the gx550..

Then again, has anyone noticed anything?

Also, the rear just feels stiff all the time, more noticeble when going over shrap speed breakers...

I wanna know if thats just mine..

It feels like the front is too soft.. too much compression and to much rebound? Normal.mode kinda fixes it. But the rear never changes.

The prado while being a little bit stiffer i feels it absorbs The bump and doenst transmit the jolt... The lx is nothing close thats a yatch..

I did test drive an LC200 and wao... instantly in lovee. Its plush all around...

I am thinking the open country at3 are the ones at fault.. So if anyone wants to comment, i would gladly appreciate it. Have a great day people.

Honda to Lexus

Traded in the wife’s 2024 Honda Pilot for her dream car in Overtrail+ trim in Earth/Onyx. Bought it from Carmax - 2025 with 9k miles, clean carfax, one owner lease turn in is what it appears to be. All the local dealers wanted over MSRP which I wasn’t willing to do. Couldn’t be happier as this thing is immaculate and drives amazingly.

Happy I waited for this...

Just got a '26 Premium + last week, waited for the Nori green for "only" 2 months, no markup either! When I went to pick it up the dealer said now waits are 6 to 9 months!?

Anyway just saying hi 👋 , looking at wheel/tire upgrades, but I obviously don't want this thing to look like a Bronco. I don't want to do any mods, it's my daily driver and kid hauler. Light trails and maybe a beach day.. if anything at all tbh.

So I'm looking for something around +25 to +40 offset? I'm open to 17s and 18s. It looks really good with Nori and a bronze wheel but again... pushing towards that Bronco look?

I think a gunmetal looks pretty clean, leaning that way right now. Also simple clean, dd street mudflap suggestions if I went with a +25? (stock on prem+ is +50)

How concerned should we be about Theft (USA)

So I see a bunch of posts about how easy it is to steal, and needing kill switches and whatnot, but seems like 90% of the posts I see are in Canada.

I'm one of those overly analytical people, so I always assume the worst, but seems like this might be largely a criminal ring issue in Canada, vs common occurrence in the US.

What are your thoughts of theft in the states, and are you still concerned? If so, what lengths do you go to?

2nd Row Mats

I've got the Lexus all weather mats. I like them, but the 2nd row only has the two mats with no middle piece. When I first put them in I thought we were missing it. But, this is how they are. Our old car had a middle piece that attached between these two. Even my 4Runner trd mat crosses over the middle hump. I don't like weather tech, they feel hard and cheap. I like the dense soft rubber style of the Lexus mats, but I wish they covered this spot. Does anyone know of a similar style mat that cover this back middle area?

Cargo mat

Any recommendations for a durable cargo mat that is well fitted for the 2026 luxury + (6 passenger). Specifically for when the third row is down. I would prefer something equivalent to the weather tech or OEM Lexus version.

Design Ideas Help!

Just got my GX 550 Luxury+. Looking to do just a little bit of customizing. Help! Check out the two shots. Let me know your thoughts. Not sure if I should leave the wheels alone, or the roof or any of it honestly. Also put in a slide whiting out the accents at the bottom.

2024 gx

Hi guys looking at a 24 gx with 5k miles buuuut it’s been at the dealer for 3 weeks now. Is this a red flag? Are we still buying the 24 or waiting for allocations? Little nervous because it’s an out of state deal. Only thing giving piece of mind is it’s still warranty & not on the recall list.
Any advice on what to look for? TIA!!
