Did anyone else just fall out of love with their GX?

Please no hate. I’m not trying to hate on the vehicle. If you look at my older post I was madly in love with this SUV when it came out. I waited forever and was happy when it arrived. But the terrible clunky transmission, the brake squeals (which just got fixed after waiting 6 months for parts), and the abysmal gas mileage have gotten to me. For about the last 6 months I’ve had two experiences where I’ve taken off turning out of an intersection across traffic and I completely lost power. Like the transmission or something didn’t kick-in and I was almost t-boned before power was restored. Twice to the dealership, they can’t find anything wrong. People still pull me aside in parking lots and tell me how they love it, and ask what I think. After having to fill-up twice this weekend, I think I’m just done. The max fuel efficiency I’ve ever gotten is 14.3 mpg. I fell in love with this as purchased as my daily driver. For context, we also have a ‘25 Escalade and a ‘25 Rubicon. The Rubicon drives harder, but you’d expect that out of a jeep. The Escalade is incomparable except maybe to our previous GLS 450. But it’s too big for a lot of parking decks, etc. Problem I see is that the only thing out there comparable is the Defender, and people seem to have nothing but problems with them. I love my Lexus dealership, amazing service. I’m thinking maybe about looking at the Cayenne, which sucks from a local dealership perspective. Or, the wife likes the G 550, but I hear they ride very rough.

WeatherTech Mats Installed

Ok...so an accessory a day....I did most of these accessories over the last week but didn't want to burn everyone out with one large post. Someone asked "why I'm posting this stuff"...well I'm hoping to just provide info to anyone that might be thinking about buying the same stuff I did...

  1. So I bought the entire front, passenger and rear cargo area mats for my 26 OT+ with the cool box.

  2. These mats definitely cover way more than the stock mats, look good and feel just like the stock material. They also clean up really easily and still look good after getting covered in some mud and dirt from a short trip to a local rec area.

  3. The front mats go up into the footwell without hindering the drivers pedals, the passenger mat covers the hump behind the cool box, and the cargo mat covers all the way up under the 2nd row of seats!

  4. The front mats do cover up some of the door sills but do not cover the lighted "Lexus".

Took less than a week to get the set. However front/passenger ships from different location than the cargo mat and they arrived 2 days quicker.

The front mats are a new design (I think) and the branding is minimal. The cargo mat has the older sticker but it comes right off with no problem.

Anyway hope this this is helpful...:)

Oh...if anyone in Northern VA needs a stock Lexus cargo mat for the 5 passenger model send me a PM! I have a brand new one that now needs a home! :)

2025 GX550 Impression and Comparison - Why did you choose the Lexus?

I just drove my buddy's GX550 Overtrail Plus for 10 miles. Nothing crazy. Best I can describe it is if an Audi Q7 Premium Plus had a baby with my 2022 Tacoma TRD Off Road and the baby came with the same Falken Wildpeaks on my Tacoma. Does that seem fair?

I wanted to consider it against the Land Rover Defender 110. Aside from the Lexus dependability vs Land Rover and leaving alone depreciation, why did you choose the GX550 if you were comparing both options at some point in the last 2 years?

**I've owned 3 Tacomas, 2 Grand Highlanders, Q7, SQ8, and 2 X5s.

Lux+ finally received

My wife and I waited 9 months for a GX550 from our local Lexus dealership but finally got offered my wife's dream spec - a 2026 Luxury+ in incognito with saddle tan interior and captain seats in the 2nd row. It has everything we wanted and after driving around town for an hour or so tonight we are more than pleased with it so far. I know people have opinions on the wheel/tire setup on the luxury trim and having test driven an OT+ I will say I do prefer the ride on tires with more sidewall (my tacoma is on 16" rims with 33" tires as well), but with that said the ride on the luxury+ with the 22s is still super smooth and I personally think it looks amazing.

Feel free to ask any questions if youre looking into getting a GX or share your feelings on my wife's new dream ride. Thanks for looking!

25 OT+ upgrade from the 24 OT.

2nd GX550 - started with a 2024 OT and had the opportunity to swap it with 25 OT+ after 2 years and 23,000 miles. Honestly loved the first GX, but improvements with the 25 and the + features made it a welcome upgrade. Features that I am very happy with:

  1. Memory seats
  2. Factory lift
  3. Built-in air compressor
  4. Squeaky cup holders are gone (maybe they changed the plastic type?)
  5. Sound system is definitely nicer.
  6. Grudgingly, the massage seats.

Here is my stock, stealth PPF wrapped Earth tone 550 - for the GX colors without the intense metallic luster, the stealth PPF and is really gorgeous.

"How Toyota Got the 2024 Land Cruiser So Wrong" - Good history of Land Cruiser/GX with a great GX 550 shout out in the end

It's an old one by now, so I don't think it needs spoiler alert. Got on a Land Cruiser history dive and landed on this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlhSgUh_6VY

Enjoyed the breakdown of Land Cruiser family and re-affirmed GX 550 as the one to get.

How long did the delivery process take?

It‘s been about two months since I got my allocation and yet have to receive my GX550. I was told it was built by 6/18 and arrived in the states 7/24 but every time I ask my salesmen about it they say a range of dates and when that time comes that tack on more time happened about 3 times now. How long did the delivery take for you guys?

Stolen GX550 / total loss

Looking for advice as this is my first time dealing with this. Long story short, GX was stolen from apartment garage and I’m working with my insurance on a total loss payout. I don’t agree with their amount and pushed back (using current listings, etc). They stand by their quote and mentioned I could go through an outside appraisal company to negotiate further with them. Has anyone gone this route? I don’t even know where to start! Additionally, they mentioned I could accept the current pay out and still go through the outside appraiser for additional $$. I assume they wouldn’t lie about this, but again just seeing if anyone who has dealt with this has any advice.

Through State Farm if it’s relevant.

GX OT no 3rd row seats??

Why doesn’t the OT have a 3rd row seating option??

One of the big reasons I want a new GX over a Land Cruiser is that it offers a 3rd row. Not something we use a ton but when needed it’s clutch.

Land Bully Cargo Light Install Photos

Hello all...new owner and I'm continuing to add a few items to the truck and thought I'd share to help others out....

  1. Just installed the Land Bully cargo light. Very easy to install and their online video directions were great.

  2. All the parts seem to be very well made and the kit contains everything you need to get the job done...install time about 10 mins.

I'll attach a couple photos so you can see the cargo area with the light on and the light off...but I can tell you it's bright! Just FYI the interior lights of the 550 are really good...but the cargo light does a great job of lighting up the entire deck area as well as some ground just outside of the hatch.

Hope this is helpful to anyone considering this.

GX night lines 📸

I'm at the campground this weekend and captured this shot of our GX post-sunset last night. I love the lines on the new 550. The silhouette really captures it well.

From Defender to Overtrail+

Traded our 2026 Defender 110, P400 for a 2026 Overtrail+ incognito.

We were big Defender fans (have had three) but previous issues with reliability and longevity turned us sour.

Lots of trips planned and excited to outfit the GX. Happy to be back with Toyota / Lexus.

What should we do first?

OffRoam Phone Mount

Just installed the OffRoam phone mount. I've had their products before so was familiar with them...but a couple notes.

  1. The USB C cable in the kit was bad. Worked out well as I had a 3.3 foot USB C cable with the right-angle connections and it worked great. On the mount end I like to wrap it around once to have a little play in the cable...but if this isn't your thing the 3 foot cable should work.

  2. The kit comes with only 3 cable clips and you need at least 6 to keep the cable secure. So order some extra. It's hard to tell from the photos but when you route the cable behind the screen you don't really see it when you are in the truck. I angled the cable behind the screen, instead of a hard right hand turn, to make the cable sit better when it comes out from behind the screen where you can see it when sitting in the truck.

  3. When your phone is in the mount you will not be able to see the start/stop button. But you can position the mount so you can see the dash, operate the wiper controls and see the large center screen with no problems.

  4. The mount itself sits perfectly above the start/stop switch and sits in the groove on top of the dash.

It's hard to tell from the pics but the cable sits tight against the dash. Overall very happy and I hope this is useful for anyone considering getting this mount.

Dealers in MI

Has anyone had much luck securing a GX550 in Michigan? It seems like the Okemos location lists the most stock but I’m not sure if that’s indicative of the amount of allocations they actually get and if I should be calling other dealerships. I have a deposit for a P+ with them, coming in October, but really want a L+.

Overtrail OEM roof rack noise update

Went for the first long highway trip with a loaded OEM OT roof rack. Had a Thule Bag, Dog crate and beach chairs. The noise from the unloaded rack is definitely more noticeable then when its loaded. Unloaded gives a low frequency background noise thumping in the cabin.

What’s required to make these 35’s fit? 🤔 GX550 OT & Premium

Hey everyone, looking at throwing some 35x12.50R17 tires (mounted on Method wheels) on a new GX 550 Overtrail. I’m also looking at a Premium Trim, which will need a leveling kit.

Before I pull the trigger, does anyone know if these will clear at stock height, or are we looking at a lift, a front bumper trim, or a body mount chop to make 35s fit properly without rubbing?

Curious what kind of modifications are actually necessary for this setup on the new platform.

Appreciate any insights!
