My favorite part

The little “uuahh” that occurs between the lines “we tremble when you’re near” & “caught in between love and fear” might be the best part of loathes discography😭😭 that whole part of the song though, when they combine the melodic instrumental w the vocal fry is just superb. “THE FORMER ERAAAASED”. Like bro

ILIIAITE vs ASTY

ILIIAITE is my favorite album of all time, but I really really really loved ASTY. As I listened to it though I felt that it was just a tiny bit behind ILIIAITE (nothing to be ashamed of at all), however when The Way It Breaks and No Stranger To You came on, that seriously made me question whether it was just as good. So I decided I'll be comparing the two. Now I do think ILIIAITE just flows together better as an album, has a better soundscape, theme and mood, and the way Theme opens into Aggressive Evolution is just awesome, but I'll disregard that and focus only on song vs song.

With ILIIAITE, the heavy hitters for me are defo sad cartoon, is it really you? screaming, I let it in, and two-way mirror. With ASTY, it's gotta be no stranger, way it breaks, GES, Fangs, and block of flats.

Interludes/openings: ASTY has 3, ILIIAITE has 4. Now by default this makes me inclined to give it to ASTY since we have more actual songs (both albums have 14 tracks), but when I really thought about it, I didn't really like the interludes on ASTY that much, whereas Theme, 451 Days (really calming in combination with Two-Way Mirror), Red Room, and Sad Carton Reprise (so fking good) are just so much better.
So we have ILIIAITE: 1, ASTY: 0

Is It Really You? vs The Way It Breaks
This one's hard because I always thought of the way it breaks as the is it really you of ASTY. Honestly... they're equal to me
ILIIAITE: 2, ASTY: 1

Two-Way Mirror vs No Stranger To You
No stranger to you was the two way mirror of ASTY. I love two-way mirror but I don't like it as much as is it really you? whereas no stranger to you is dead even with the way it breaks and is it really you? So this actually goes to ASTY
ILIIAITE: 2, ASTY: 2

Screaming vs Fortress Down
I love Fortress Down so much man, but it's basically Screaming part 2, and Screaming is SO SO SO good man. It's prob the best on ILIIAITE.
ILIIAITE: 3, ASTY: 2

Block of Flats vs Aggressive Evolution
Can't decide, this is dead even.
ILIIAITE: 4, ASTY: 3

Heavy is the head vs Gemini
Honestly, they seem really similar to me in terms of vibe and to be honest, I don't like them as much as Loathe's other heavy songs (like Revenant, Gored, It's Yours, Babylon..., Banshee). If Heavy is the head didn't have its nice outro that led into Sad Cartoon, I think I'd slightly give this to Gemini by half a point. But they're so close that because of the outro, I think this is even
ILIIAITE: 5, ASTY: 4

Revenant vs Gored
Dead even NGL
ILIIAITE: 6, ASTY: 5

I let it in (song) vs GES
This is so hard because I couldn't think of any other songs to compare these 2 to. But I think this fits as they both have a similar vibe towards the end (though the most similar song to I let it in would really be Dimorphous Display). GES is SO good and beats out a pretty good amount of ILIIAITE's discography, but it narrowly loses here since I let it in doesn't drag on or feel wasteful.
ILIIAITE: 6.5, ASTY: 5

Sad Cartoon vs Fangs
These two are also heavy hitters with sort of similar vibes. It's so so close, that again, I can only really give Sad Cartoon half a point here.
ILIIAITE: 7, ASTY: 5

Broken Vision Rhythm vs Harder to Pretend
I actually fucking love Harder to Pretend, so it takes this
ILIIAITE: 7, ASTY: 6

New Faces in the Dark vs Meet my Maker
I really like Meet my Maker and tbh this is a weird matchup, and honestly I was inclined to compare New Faces to Block of Flats (they'd tie), but Aggressive Evolution seemed more similar to block of flats, and AE and New Faces are equal to me anyway. Regardless, New Faces takes this.
ILIIAITE: 8, ASTY: 6

Extra song: The Ladder
I actually really like The Ladder, and because we get 1 extra real song over ILIIAITE, this point goes to ASTY.
ILIIAITE: 8, ASTY: 7

A Guide to Loathe's Collaborations

A Guide to Loathe's Collaborations

If anyone else is like me and always searching for bands that scratch the Loathe itch what better place to look than the projects they’ve been a part of.

Erik Bickerstaffe - Production / Mixing

Static Dress: Erik has been involved in their production since their first single, and a part of every project since. They have released 2 albums, Injury Episode and Rogue Carpet Disaster. The redux of the song Lye Solution features vocals from both Erik and Kadeem.

Lotus Eater - Social Hazard - If you miss Cold Sun era Loathe, check this out.

Heavens Gate - A Heart Is a Heavy Burden - fantastic metalcore shoegaze blend

God Complex: Before Kadeem was the vocalist for Loathe, it was Harry Rule who has since been apart of God Complex as their vocalist. Also the guest feature of Broken Vision Rhythm. Erik has mixed all of their projects, including Created Sick, He Watches In Silence, and additionally played drums on To Decay In A Deathless World both in studio and at some live shows. There is a fantastic live video of God Complex where Kadeem is featured live as well.

Killing Me Softly - Autumn Lost in Silence

Gassed Up - IPA Till I Die PA

Exit Dream - Selected Singles

Heriot - Commander of Pain

From Inside - When I'm Breathing Without You

A Perfect Fate - Homesick Poetry

Love is Noise - All Eyes Shut: Guitar solo feature from Erik, the rest of their discography is great.

Kadeem France - Vocal Features

NOWHERE2RUN - Ant in the Afterbirth - Industrial/Electronic project of Code Orange vocalist, also featured on Loathe’s track Revenant.

The Gloom in the Corner - Peace

Blanket - In Awe: entire album is very Loathe-esque, my biggest recommendation from this entire list.

VCTMS - A Lonely Place of Dying

God Complex - Hate Runs Through Me

Void of Vision - Splinter

Wiltwither - Black Summer

Centuries - Empty Vessels

Downfall - Close Your Eyes

Ivy Crown - Bad Dream

Endtrocity - Shut

Mercy - Witch King

Abbasi - 774

Noir - Doomsayer

Of Legions - Vision of Misery

Feisal El-Khazragi

Before joining Loathe in 2018, Feisal was a founding member of the band Holding Absence as a guitarist, credited on their 2017 singles and their 2019 album despite leaving the band before its release.
Sean Radcliffe
No outside projects currently credited.

If you haven’t heard also check out these two covers:
Sleep Token - Is It Really You?
Teenage Wrist - Is It Really You?

Ex Guitar Conner Sweeney has some vocal and production credits but not listing them here since he’s not a current member, but I would be happy to give recommendations.

Let me know if I missed any or what your thoughts are on these projects!

Time capsule

So I was having trouble sleeping and got on YouTube and it randomly surprised me with a Kadeem feature from 13 years ago. How sick is that? I swear it heard me say Kadeem France 30 minutes prior and showed me this.

loathe tat ideas??

hoping to get a loathe tattoo for my next tat. Originally was thinking the classic "loathe sun" but god damn after hearing "entrance" for the first time, i'm thinking the lyrics "Stood Against Goliath and We rose" would be hard as hell. Especially considering my battle with mental health problems. Just seeing what you guys think and if you have any other suggestions!!

Does this make John Loathe proud?

So I found this in my Spotify listening stats, I know it’s not a crazy stat but I haven’t been able get in contact with John Loathe like others here. Can someone pass the stat to him?

Anyone else think sean is one of the most underrated drummers in the scene

from what i understand he played a large role in pushing the band to write more melodic/clean stuff. skills wise he’s nutty but also an amazing writer. gored is definitely one of his best imo especially at 2:23.

which song do you think has the best lyrics?

I absolutely love every song by Loathe, like it’s banger after banger and I think it’s largely due to the fact that their lyrics are so beautiful and flowery. Anyways, I was writing a letter to my dad (we both are big into metalcore and lyrics) and I was writing down a few of my favorite lyrics from some of my favorite songs and it got me thinking which songs by loathe have the best lyrics? (I know it’s subjective but I wanna know what everyone thinks about it as well!)

I think ILIIAITE album is the prettiest lyrically but The Cold Sun is also gorgeous, so are some songs on ASTY, and I like some on Prepare, Consume, Proceed, This Is As One and DD. If I absolutely had to pick three (might be an unpopular opinion) it would be Stigmata, New Faces in The Dark, and Heavy Is the Head. What are yours? Do you also think any specific album is better lyrically?
