Save Physical Discs

I don't want anyone commenting on this post that "this is just performative activism and doesn't accomplish anything". It's better than nothing and is a good add on to other actions. If you are not actively doing anything yourself to solve this issue, then you don't have a right to say "this accomplishes nothing" if you are doing nothing yourself. And if you are doing something, please point us in the direction of what you think will be more effective instead of just saying "this won't solve anything". You are not being helpful

Louis forgets he has an og SUSE Linux physical disc behind him which he didn't burn to the disc himself but he says he doesn't care if other people also want an og full base physical game discs

We can advocate for both DRM-free physical & DRM-free digital media. We already do, people have & want to continue to own both DRM-free physical and digital copies from GOG, Consoles etc. Physical media in original-themed packaging, as collector's items etc is more attractive for resell etc. Same as music, people can own DRM-free digital music they can burn to a disc whenever but some people still want to buy original physical dvds and vinyls for their analog machines not be tied down to digital machines/players, as collector's items, again for resell value etc

Somehow Louis forgets he has SUSE Linux physical copy behind him which he didn't burn to the disc himself but in the video he basically tells people they're dumb to care or be mad for physical disc cause they can have and burn drm-free digital disc themselves.

He's acting like offline DRM-free physical full base games that don't require internet connection (edit: "don't exist" ) exit and its what some of us have & want to continue to have. No one whats a non-DRM-free physical game.

You can buy and download flac files on qobuz.

You can buy and download drm free games on gog.

Everand (formerly part of Scribd) is ABSOLUTE SHIT NOW!!!

Everand used to be Scribd before it was split away and Scribd was changed to be only for user-uploaded documents. It's essentially an ebook subscription service where you pay around US$11.99 per month and get access to a library of 1.5 million ebooks and audiobooks.

I hadn't read anything on Everand in over a year, but there were some books I wanted to read so I resumed my subscription, only to cancel it a few minute later. Because the system has changed, and not for the better.

Instead of paying to get access to 1.5 million ebooks, most of books are now 'locked' and you have to spend an 'unlock' to access them. The cheapest plan at US$11.99 comes with a measly one unlock, and even if you join the highest tier at US$28.00, you only get five unlocks per month. So instead of paying US$11.99 to read as many books as you want, you now have to pay over double that and can only read five books in a month! There is a much, much smaller 'Unlimited' library, but the vast majority of the books have to be unlocked.

The site is a total ripoff now! Does anyone know of any comparable services that still operate the way Everand/Scribd used to?

Californias AB2047 conflict of interest

Rebecca Bauer-Kahan, the assemblywoman pushing AB2047 in California, is married to the chief technology officer of Watermark Insights. Watermark develops AI powered data collection and analytics software. AB2047 requires new software to collect and analyze data.

See the issue?

At best this is a huge conflict of interest that needs to be scrutinized. She's pushing a bill that she stands to profit massively from.

Dear Sony: You messed up - Laura's Cloud Save

>Sony announced that they're ending production of physical discs for Playstation. This is a major loss for consumers everywhere in term of our consumer rights and for true ownership. I hope Sony will backtrack on this, but only time will tell if the backlash is severe enough for them to do so.

Chat Control is back! The dystopia train is chugging along.

I don't think "enshittfication" can really cover the magnitude of this one...

Last year the EU's attempt to create a giant surveillance regulation (formerly known as Chat Control 1.0 or Regulation to Prevent and Combat Child Sexual Abuse) was defeated. However like the good little dystopian Phoenix, it rose from the ashes as a 2.0! Learning from the previous failure, the powers behind it try to make this one pass in a silent and expedited manner. In fact it is expedited so much that next week the MEP's will already vote on it...

If this passes than every message and photo on people's devices in the EU will be constantly scanned! Privacy and private communication will go the way of the Dodo, and this will likely be the new global standard...
