Review of Skins
so the sample pack came and i’m pretty dissapointed. i noticed that they scratch really easy (and no not fingerprints but permanent indentations that then reflect light differently). not even applying much pressure permanently leaves scratches with my nail. it would definitely look really ugly after just a few weeks of having it in a backpack and day to day wear.
also i did buy the brushed black skin from armor suit as well and its the same exact color, texture , feel and everything from the brushed black m2 offers. However m2 allows to have more options like slash only or no cutouts and comes with an installation kit all at the same price as armor suit. i’m now thinking i don’t want a skin because the skins seem to get marked up really really easy which is what i was trying to prevent in the first place lol. the light colors are better not showing the indentations. black honeycomb, black leather, black carbon fiber and forged carbon, charcoal grey are also more resistant to scratches and pressure as well. hard to tell from photos since i used flashes and it’s diffuse reflecting surface scatters light irregularly but brushed black scratches are more noticeable in person. for the darker colors. leather, honeycomb, and forged carbon, and charcoal grey are up to my standard for scratch resistance.
i’d say the use of these skins is like the false security of phone screen protectors. you think the screen protector saved your screen from an impact because it broke but in reality the screen wouldn’t have broke anyways because it’s much stronger than the protectors. similarly the skin scratches WAY easier than the actually laptop itself (duh because it’s metal vs vinyl). i can’t even give it a plus for looks because well it will look really scratched fast so that negates it. also a lot of them are way too sparkly. it actually ruins what otherwise would be good colors like the charcoal grey and brushed black.
with that being said i will still probably buy one of the darker more resistant skins because at least it will protect my laptop a little better than naked.
