CIS fueling trouble
Has anyone had low fuel system pressure that they couldn’t solve? Ive replaced both pumps, relay, filter, rebuilt the WUR, rebuilt the fuel distribution unit, assumed i rebuilt that wrong and replaced it with one out of a running car and still cant get over 35psi. No starting no sputtering (obviously injectors wont open at that low of pressure) I’m at my wits end and about to carb convert this POS CIS fuel system. Anyone dealt with something similar?
Here's my 83 Cabriolet.
This is my 83 Cabriolet, I've owned this for 22 years. I don't think there's a single part of this car I've not had to bits over the years.
Has anyone seen this caddy before?
My buddy recently bought this 1982 caddy 4 speed n/a diesel. I thought the pin stripping on it was interesting and im trying to find any history on the rig thanks.
If no one has seen this well enjoy seeing it for the the first time because it sure is sick.
The latest of many Cabriolets, but the one thats a keeper.
Picked up this 87 in partial trade for an 83 mk1 truck I restored. I've never been a cabriolet fan, and I usually don't do too many gassers, but this one is cleeeeean, It's a NM car originally so zero rust, and 110k on the clock, dent free, and nearly complete. The AC blows ice cold. Already got the proper bumper ends (although I might go with small bumpers, considering the plastic smalls even...) and the correct center trim strip to replace the missing ones here. I'm definitely deleting the fender signals and the side signals in back, throwing on some NOS OEM VW logo mudflaps, a zender flare/skirt kit, and hopefully a zender airdam if I can find one. Gonna do all clears with colored LED turns and tails, and I'll probably end up doing a minimal respray just on the outside to get the paint shiny again, definitely clean up the interior and put in the proper oem blaupunkt stereo with way better speakers, and probably a subwoofer as I'm not worried about taking up space in this baby (I love cassettes, but the bluetooth cassette adapters are a godsend for me) along with a very subtle and impossible to see reverse cameral that displays in the rearview mirror, a 4x6 carplay touchscreen that can be attached with hidden magnets in the dash, and like I do all my rebuilds, add some very discrete hidden USB ports in the center console cubby. It runs, but it's rough, compression is perfect though. Going to swap in a 5 speed (anyone want an auto trans?) and switch it to carbs, or possibly digifant (sorry CIS guys, I just have hated CIS since the first one I owned). I'm keeping the OG alloys, and will definitely also make them shine alpine white again, maybe black on the inner spokes. Might get a black topper if I can trade this one, but only if it's perfect, because the white one is mint, if so I may go with black for the body kit and mirrors...almost positive i'll do air shocks, if not, like all my mk1's, it will get bilstiens all around. If anyone has any of the matching center fabric for these seats, let me know, otherwise i'll have to find something similar!
Any suggestions on adding black, or other styles would be welcome, but I want to keep it strictly white and black!
I had been looking for a cabriolet for a ridiculous mini-truck/buggy project, and I took this one sight unseen because the guy payed me basically exactly what I wanted for the pickup, but I kinda fell in love with it at first sight for some reason. Aside from a Jetta, which I'm holding out for a canadian original 1.6td, this completes my personal collection of mk1's, which right now is my first car, the 80 rabbit swapped with an alh, and completely in original stock configuration, the 82 pickup I swapped an AAZ into I bought in 2001 and was my daily for 15 years, A GTI that's still in progress and I'm just deciding on a motor to put in, a 75 swallowtail that's still a shell but I'm slowly gathering parts for a perfect oem interior, a 78 2 door I'm building into a stripped down, roll caged racecar, and an 80 rabbit truck project that i'm using a body that was too rusted out too bad at the strut towers to be safe to drive on any oem suspension without a ton of body work that I'm cutting and body swapping onto a samurai frame i stretched to fit the wheelbase, and will get an aaz with an adapter to use the sami transmission. I've also got an 86 Vanagon with a diesel manual trans i'm trying to decide on whether to use an alh or aaz in. I'm sure I'll add more to my personal collection, and would reallly like to get a fox someday, but for now I need to finish and move my restoration projects to build up more capital and make sure I'll be able to retire when I'm too old and weary to do this kind of work.
I'm far from new to Mk1's, or VW's in general, but I'm about to start an etsy shop dedicated to awesome and unique mk1 stuff, both vintage and things I make, and trying to build a social media presence, so I'll be posting a bunch more here in the future (i currently have a mini junkyard with just over 30 rabbits, 7 or 8 trucks, and LOADS of parts from 20 years of collecting and buying out collections.) I have a hoard of 13 more rabbits and a truck to pick up I have to tow back that are about 250 miles away, and I'm about to put my first (absolutely incredible), and also incidentally an '80 cabriolet, on Bring a Trailer as soon as the title comes back in my name (i'll definitely post it here once the auction starts, it's absolutely mindblowing)
My first car was an '80 4 door diesel rabbit my Grandpa bought the day I was born with the intent to give to me as my first car for my 15th birthday, and aside from my current '97 f-250 powerstroke I use to haul cars if there are 2 or more in a load (I just use my '14 tdi sportwagen and a tow dolly if it's just one), I have only ever owned two non-vw's, a 93 ranger my grandpa bought me, and a 3rd gen tacoma i had for like a year and absolutely hated. Oh, and I have an extremely rare (1 of 166 made, 1 of 30 ever brought into the states) British 1956 Berkeley SE 322, a tiny little roadster measuring 10ft long by 4ft wide with a 70" wheelbase, aluminum body pan and fiberglass body I just recently randomly found and fell in love with - but it will get it's own instagram! I do really really want to import a Caribe from mexico, which will likely happen soon!
And I have a few other custom weirdo mk1 projects I want to do in between full restorations and mods. I was a University Art Professor and left about three years ago when I bought out a very elderly friend's enormous collection of mk1 parts and was so fed up with working 9-5 and academia, realized I can still do art all the time and rebuild my favorite cars for a good chunk of my living.
Hoping to hit the festival circuit hard next year! (and ohhh man wait til you see my car hauler when I'm done!!!)
Anyways, I'm Danny, my biz is called mk1nerd, and it's good to get back involved with the community and possibly reconnect with some old Vortex folks and new mk1 folks.
Keep posting those golf/rabbits! Y'all inspire me every day! Hope I can contribute even a tiny portion of what I've gotten out of the online community!!! Thanks!!!!
