Tyre pressures?

Anyone running 255 40 18's on their Golfs?

Can never decide on best pressure. Obviously, the door-jamb sticker will be completely different and for the wheels it came on.

This took more hours than I'll ever admit

And it still leaves plenty to be desired.

20th anniversary

Would you buy a 20th Ann for $2000? It has 200k+ miles. Doesn’t run due to pretty minor issues such as needing ecu and battery. Interior clean 8/10 no tears on seats. Wheels clean 7.5/10 some rash. Body 7/10 has some small scratches.

1.8T oil pressure warning

Got an '01 AUM, recently did a service and have been getting intermittent oil pressure warnings ever since... usually when gentle driving round town, between 1.5-2k RPM, or after a decent run and the revs are dropping again (70mph is 3k RPM, usually pops up when it drops back below 2k). The warning always clears itself after a few seconds and the car is running absolutely fine.

I've noticed my oil pressure sensor is leaking oil quite badly and I'm led to believe once its leaking oil through the sensor it's fair to say the sensor is dead and needs to be replaced?

Gone from 5w30 to 5w40 this time around, fully synthetic Shell Helix, VW 502.00 spec. Pick up pipe (and sump) were replaced just before Christmas by myself with genuine parts so I'm certain that's not the issue. Oil is changed every 6 months or so, always fully synthetic and always to VW spec. Oil pump was visually inspected when the sump was off but I didnt remove it, everything looked gravy but there's only so much you can see without removing the pump I guess 🤷‍♂️

Ordered an oil pressure test kit today, gonna be changing the sensor and doing a pressure test this weekend... is there anything else I should be aware of? I know the older 1.8Ts are prone to sludge but I've never noticed anything undesirable in my oil.

Can anyone advise what oil pressures are normal for a 1.8T please? In PSI not Bar preferably. Thanks!!

Ops on intake mod?

Bought a universal ramair intake because I didn’t like how it just uses a metal plate and the whole intake is exposed.

Did some hacking and bending inside the stock air box, cut into the top and plastic welded a stainless steel mesh to the top, I get my cool noises, plus my ignition control module still gets proper airflow, probably gonna spray the mesh black so it doesn’t look as messy but quite pleased with the OEM+ vibe of it

resistance of the dimmer switch?

Anyone know the resistance / power of a working dimmer switch? I never dim my lights and the switch has gotten super flaky. I'm thinking of just wiring in a resistor.

Body swap 4motion

I own v6 4motion 4 door golf with quite heavily rusted body. I would like to transfer it to a better condition body in the future. My question is, would the 2.8 engine and whole 4 motion stuff fit any other mk4 body? Or does it have to be petrol/4motion body? Thanks

Good Magsafe Mount?

Does anyone have a good magsafe mount that works well in an MK4? I tried one from Amazon and it broke the vent fin - curious what others are using.

Boot central locking problems.

Hey guys.

My central locking keyfob won't open the boot/tailgate hatch. This started happening after I replaced the handle which had corroded badly.

Previous to replacing the handle I could lock it and unlock it using the central locking fob, but the actual keyhole was seized solid and wouldn't turn. Whilst replacing the handle I managed to free up the key mechanism using PlusGas. So now I have the opposite problem - I can open it with the key alone. The central locking fob does nothing. Though I can hear something clicking in there when I press the button.

So I'm out of ideas and wondering whether it might be worth replacing this switch? Though I can see it moving so it does have power, just thinking maybe it's gone bad in some way. Also, the boot light has never worked despite changing the bulb and if I leave the tailgate open for too long the alarm will go until I hit the unlock button again.

Anyone else had similar issues?

12v conversion?

Just picked up this cupholders console. It didn’t come with either coin slot or bora fuel door button. I was wondering if anyone has converted the spot and added an additional 12v cigarette lighter maybe tapped off the 12v in front of the shifter. I found the guy on FB with the usb conversion and he said he’s looking in it.
