How do I start doing makeup?

How do I start doing makeup?

Soooooo I'm 16 and just never felt the need to be doing makeup until now. I feel like everyone is already leagues ahead of me and I don't even know where to start. I don't know what products to use, how to find my shade, or how to apply makeup. Any tips or advice would be GREATLY appreciated. I definitely much prefer very natural looks overall, but I love eye makeup that looks like the photo attatched. If anyone can recommend some video tutorials or products it would really help me out!

My eyeshadow disappears as soon as I open my eyes, any tips?

I'm still pretty new to makeup, and I feel like I keep running into the same problem. I spend time blending my eyeshadow, but as soon as I open my eyes, it almost disappears or becomes barely noticeable.

I'm wondering if it's my eye shape, my placement, or just my technique. Right now I'm keeping things pretty simple with a NYX eyeshadow palette, a Sheglam eyeliner, and LOréal mascara.

Should I place the shadow higher, use different shades, or try different techniques? I'd really appreciate any advice!

Does this look bad?

I feel insecure because of my skin’s scarring and texture :( is there anything I can improve? This time I didn’t use concealer under my eyebags so don’t mind that!

One thing I’m struggling with is definitely mascara, my eyelashes are very straight and despite using an eyelash curler + tried multiple waterproof/non waterproof mascara they get heavy, still have to find a good one, or perhaps I put too much? But they really don’t hold up😭

Another thing is primer.. I have a grippy primer but perhaps I should try a silicone one over the scars?

Also despite doing skincare already, I feel like it gradually grows patchy after some hours. Is it normal? I feel like powder could be the case, but I’ve been using it less as I don’t really get its use. What’s the difference between powder and a setting spray, performance speaking?

Thanks for reading and any tips are appreciated!

Any tips for makeup that doesn't emphasize skin texture by midday? (Beginner here!)

I’m a total beginner, and I’m having a hard time with my base. I can do my makeup in the morning, and it looks fine, but by noon, it’s settling into every single pore and line.

I’ve tried primers, but they don't seem to help much. Is this just a reality of wearing makeup, or am I missing a crucial step in my skin prep? I’m looking for any tips on how you guys keep your base looking smooth all day without it feeling like a cakey mask. I’m really trying to learn, so any advice for a newbie is appreciated!

How to do your makeup flawlessly?

As you can see from the reference, that the model's makeup looks very cohesive, balanced and very her(in a sense that she doesn't look intimidating). Her skin IS very smooth and glasslike though, but what do you do to achieve this satin skin like finish on textured skin?(I am not saying to get rid of the texture). The eyeshadow, lip combo, blush and everything else is cooperating with each other...how to achieve this kind of natural skin finish? I don't have an airbrush or expensive products but since skills maketh a man....

Why does a felt-tip liner usually make a cleaner wing than a brush?

It comes down to how each tool releases product. A felt tip holds ink in the fibers and lets it out at a fairly constant rate under light, even pressure, so your line width is set mostly by the tip shape and the angle you hold it at. A brush is the opposite. The amount of product and the length of bristle touching skin both shift as you move, so a clean line means controlling those in real time. That's the harder skill, which is why a brush can do things a felt tip can't once you're good with it, but a felt tip gets you to a clean wing faster. The part most people miss is the surface, not the tool. Liner drags and skips over anything emollient, so a creamy concealer or dewy primer on the lid will make even a good pen look ragged. A light dusting of powder on the lid first gives the tip something to grip, and that's usually the difference between a crisp line and a patchy one. The other thing worth knowing is that most wings fail at the same step, opening the eye before the liner has set. Waterproof and longwear formulas need a few seconds to dry down since they're built to stop moving once they do. Look down into a mirror and hold still until it's dry instead of blinking it into the crease.

Makeup Advice / Tips for my features

Hi! I don’t even know if this is allowed, but I randomly stumbled upon this picture online, and the woman in it looks almost IDENTICAL to me like fr.

I’ve been practicing doing my makeup for special occasions, and my goal is to enhance my natural features instead of completely changing how I look. I’m going for a soft, doll-like look, if that’s even possible with my features. 🥹 I want the main focus to be on the eyes, cheeks, and nose. basically aiming for that soft, innocent, feminine vibe. (slide 2 and 3)

With the features I have (pic for reference), what makeup techniques would you recommend to help me achieve that look? I literally have the same nose and eyes as the woman in the picture, except mine are asymmetrical. 😓

One of my eyes is almond-shaped while the other is hooded, but they’re both downturned. My lips are a little fuller than hers, my cheekbones are flat as heck, and I have a soft jawline. My chin also looks a bit receded because of my fuller lips. Overall, I have pretty low-contrast features, so nothing really stands out.

To anyone with the same (or similar) facial features, what techniques work best for you? I’d love any tips on eye makeup, contour, blush placement, nose contour, or anything else you think would help me achieve that soft doll look. Please help your girl out. 😭🫶 any tips would be appreciated. I’m also a beginner in makeup so like… 😔

Never done makeup in my life, want to start slow and easy.

Hi! I've never done any kind of makeup in my life, I want to start out slow and natural looking. I'm 27, and unfortunately dealing with some acne right now. I just recently bought some Nyx lip butter and mascara, was wondering if I should get anything else? My face might look shiny because I just did some skin care. Thank you!

What is happening to this lipstick?

I picked up this lipstick at Walgreens for 2 dollars, it was on a good sale. Looking at the top I thought this was a frosted lipstick. The lipstick is: COVERGIRL Clean Lip Color, 215 Enchantress Blush.

I would just like to know what is going on with this lipstick. I have not wore any but I took a "scientific" scratch to see if the white went all they way through.

Short routine for beginner?

In general, I dont really wear make up except for the occasional mascara and eyeliner. Really, its because when I take the time to put on foundation I dont think it really even looks that good?

Id love recommendations for a few products for beginners (including brands potentially) for a really easy routine. I can share a photo make up less and with my best make up attempt but am a bit shy on a public forum.

Bad Foundation While Using SPF!

Hey girls! Is anyone else struggling with the same issue? Whenever I apply SPF before my foundation, my skin looks absolutely terrible by midday. The foundation starts to pill, looks patchy, and just sits so weirdly on top of the SPF layer. I've tried waiting longer for the SPF to dry, I've tried different application methods like stippling instead of rubbing, but nothing seems to work. My foundation ends up looking cakey and separated, especially around my nose and cheeks. I've even tried switching foundations thinking that was the problem, but the issue keeps coming back. It's so frustrating because I know I need to wear SPF for skin protection, but I just can't figure out how to make it work with my makeup routine. Has anyone found a solution that actually works? I'm open to any tips, product recommendations, or routine changes. I'm getting really tired of dealing with this every single day!
