I got the idea to make this post because of u/Altruistic_Yard9338's comments about Omni-Man. For those who don't know, he's a character from Invincible - an alien conqueror who came on Earth to infiltrate it, married a human woman and raised their son for years, before betraying them, killing people he worked with for years and beating his own son to an inch of his life (not to mention, he called his wife a pet) !

Yet he manages to be a fan-favorite even though his betrayal was objectively worse than Malty's - at least Malty didn't commit mass murder !

Even the Animation Became Ugly Just to Engage Malty's Humiliation:

In one specific scene where Malty is about to lose her head. The animation noticeably shifts in the ugly direction and as a result, her face strangely looks like a pig, with all those extra lines to make her begging appear "brutish".

Theories for the Self Proclaimed Gods?

The main antagonistic force of the Self Proclaimed Gods surprisingly has little information about them other than they are responsible for the waves and consume worlds for their energy and their own entertainment. The ability to open up multidimensional portals between worlds and the knowledge of being able to reincarnate individuals from other universes would make them one of the most advanced civilisations in all fiction.
I think Aneko should have paced the story better to focus more on the waves and the main antagonists rather than the episodic plot arcs that caused the story to stall indefinitely.
