The inexplicable lowercase H on "helpful" is the cherry on top

Greetings neighbors. I am moving within Mankato, like 1.5 miles, single family home. Looking for recommendations for good, reliable movers. Thank you!
Title pretty much is the post, what is there to do here? I didn’t grow up in this area so I know nobody but the family I’m living with. I go to college in another state and in a relatively large city but I’m here for the summer. I’ve got a job lined up that’s starting pretty soon but other than that, I’m kinda just here in Mankato. Any recommendations to get out to the town or something would be appreciated.
Hello Mankatoans (Mankatonites?… idk)
My fiance was just accepted to MU for grad school in spring 2027! It’s our plan to move from WA to Mankato around the new year.
I currently work in the field of fisheries science as a project manager, specializing in fish habitat management and restoration. Although my background and education is centered around this particular expertise, I am open to exploring other natural resource positions as I understand the market is really tight right now.
That being said, are there any local NGOs / government agencies to keep an eye out for employment in the Mankato area? A general search online shows me that there aren’t a ton of options open right now. I currently work in non-profit, and find myself gravitating toward that world if I can help it. Open to any suggestions though !
Thanks
It's ridiculous that this is legal
Most people have never heard of Mike's Discount Foods. They are a grocery liquidator with locations in Montgomery and Comfrey. Regular grocery stores and big box stores regularly rotate the product on their shelves because items were discontinued, seasonal, or close to the expiration date. Mike's buys all the random items and resells it at a fraction of the cost.
There are some caveats when you shop at Mike's.
- This is not the place to go with a grocery list and a plan. Be flexible and think of it as a treasure hunt because you never know what will be on the shelves from week to week. You can check their Facebook page for info on some of the new products. Be prepared to find unusual items like furniture or pallets of socks.
- Staples like bread, milk, and eggs can cost more than in the regular stores. They stock these for locals who don't want to drive to Mankato just to save $0.50 on a gallon of milk.
- Expiration dates aren't a hard and fast rule here. The yogurt I picked up today is dated for May 18th. However, yogurt is fine to eat well past the expiration date.
- There are no grocery bags. They do have boxes available.
Schoolteacher, union leader, and Minnesota-01 Congressional candidate Jake Johnson took the Political Integrity Pledge to:
- Reject corporate PAC $$
- Support a stock trading ban + hold no individual stocks while in office
- Support a lobbying ban for former members of Congress
- Support overturning Citizens United
He is challenging Rep. Brad Finstad who received $275,900 in corporate PAC money last cycle.
This is a complete shot in the dark, but my partner has been looking for a job in his field for about 2 years now. He has a bachelors and masters in computer science and engineering. He does some part time work developing mobile games for a small business but it doesn’t pay well and he doesn’t get many hours.
He’s applied to thousands of jobs. Finally, he had a serious prospect, but after a couple weeks of phone tag, he finally got an official “no”. We’re devastated.
Does anyone know of anywhere in town he may be able to apply?
My daughter was involved in a hit and run yesterday on riverfront. We're still looking for the driver of the red Ford ranger. Yes the license plate is ironic
I would like to hear everyone’s thoughts on this downtown establishment. Personally, I think the food is inconsistent at best in their servers do not give a damn about getting your food to you at a reasonable time. The last time we went. There was in the fall, watching the Vikings and I swear every employee there had their eyes glue to TV, and their backs turned to all of the customers. I also personally I’m not a big fan of the owner. I think she’s very offputting. And I personally get frustrated when she lingers around my table while me and my friends are trying to eat talking to us about Adam Thielen or taking a party to watch the Mavericks play
Sxulzel is an up and coming artist from Mankato Minnesota with a mixtape releasing may 15th titled 2,007
Anyone play any home games or small cash games of poker around this town? I know they play poker at wow zone on Wednesdays but I work every Wednesday. I'd like to find a group of guys to play with. I'm 35 and married, and just like playing poker and shooting the shit
I’m moving to Mankato this week and I’m Bank angler. I know there’s a lot of spots in the city but what spots are worth hitting up my first time.
Me and my boyfriend recently moved to New Ulm area from the twin cities. We are both 20. Is there anyone out there who lives around that area and is also having a hard time finding friends our age. Neither of us are in college and we work full time. We are quickly learning how lonely it gets when all of our old friends are living in the cities.
I am 21 and need something to do that doesn’t involve purely drinking or distracting myself with drugs or women. I need something that is exciting in this fuckass boring town.
Creeping charlie is taking over my yard. Looking for weed control options. TruGreen or Spring Touch or any other recommendations? What are my best options?
What have y’all’s experience been at Weggys? Looking for more insight on how they function and long-term residents experiences there. Extra helpful if you happened to work there
