New 4 hand solo for graduating student: advice
I am writing this for a graduating percussionist. Any advice on how to score it better? I'm a trombonist.

Would you buy this vibraphone? They want €1,200 for it. I'm not familiar with the brand or the quality of this kind of vibraphone.
So ive been playing percussion for around 7 years and a half now, im curentlly in my first year of high school, so that means im 15. I just wanted to ask for some opinions on my level, and anu recomendations on what i should play next. This year, i played well i am playing 3 pieces, first is Libertango, Arr by Eric Sammut, second is Wind in the bamboo grove by Keiko Abe and third which i started reading today, is 1. movement of Tanaka Toshimitsus 2 movements for marimba. I always try to bring up the best in my pieces, so yeah, i play them as musically as i can, i always am aware of the voicings all articulation and other "charasteristic" marking, and im trying to bring my interpretation to one of a high standard. I also think i have solid tehnique, and i use Burton grip. I really want to play Etude in E minor by Pius Cheung and after it i wanna play the second movement of Tanakas 2 movements for marimba, wich is a lot harder from what ive heard and seen.
Just a side note: if ur wondering, im in a music highschool, well its a Conservatory for music and ballet, and therefore i do have a professor, so therefor im not self taught. Thank you for your time and again, i could really use some recomendations and opinions and an overall overview if i behind, ahead, or avrage in skill for my age and time of playing.
Hi everyone. Rising junior music ed major here. I just finished Katamiya by Sejourne for my spring sophomore juries and it looks like I’m going to be taking on Rotation 2 by Eric Sammut next.
My question is if that is an acceptable difficulty for a junior in college. I’m trying to gauge where I’m at as far as my playing ability looking towards senior year/potentially grad school. Thank you!
hey marimbists - first of all, sorry for having to ask this here. the vibraphone and percussion subs are currently under-moderated and it looks like i can't post there. this is in fact a vibraphone question, however the principles are not exclusive to vibraphone and i thought people here might have thoughts.
surely anyone looking into burton grip has seen this video of the man himself explaining it. in the video, he advises students to always keep four mallets in their hands, even when playing two mallet passages. i've taken this to heart.
it creates some problems with certain chord and scale shapes, however. i notice most people tend to play two-mallet passages with mallets 2 and 4, however for some shapes 2 and 3 seem to make more sense.
for anyone who chooses to keep four mallets in the hands at all times... how does this affect your scalar and arpeggiated practice? how do you navigate getting your hands out of each other's way? i feel like i have baggage making me want to stick with 2 and 4 whenever possible... how reasonable is that baggage?
thanks!
Where could I go to buy or play a marimba? What are some ways to get into it? Thank you if anyone can give some help.
