Evidence: Many of the biggest controversies in the world of psychology over the past ten years have centered around the definition of various disorders, the diagnostic criteria of those disorders, and the impact that the use and misuse of psychological terminology in the media have had on mental health. Examples include debate over whether certain disorders like Complex PTSD and Dissociative Identity Disorder exist due to their strict diagnostic criteria and overlap with other disorders (e.g. Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder,) debate over whether to categorize autism into different diagnoses and if so how to categorize it (e.g. the debate around whether Asperger's Syndrome is a separate disorder,) concern about disorders like Tourette Syndrome becoming more common due to exposure in the media, and resulting debate over whether to diagnose people with a disorder if their symptoms seem to stem from media or other social exposure since diagnostic criteria often exclude psychosocial origin.

I believe that, over the next decade, these controversies will lead toward an increasingly popular movement from both inside and outside the psychology community to move away from disorder-centric language and a diagnosis-centric approach altogether, instead focusing solely on identifying individual symptoms, determining the cause of those symptoms (be it environmental, social, or chemical) and any interplay that may be occurring between them, and then deciding how to treat those symptoms depending on the harm and/or distress they cause. I don't believe categorization or diagnosis of mental health disorders as a whole will be going away any time soon, and I believe that various communities will continue to insist on disorder-centric language even as these changes take place more broadly. But I think that within the next 10 years, those diagnoses will be downplayed and only used to provide general roadmaps for study and treatment, while patient-facing and public-facing language will be centered primarily around symptoms.

Evidence: So by now we have all heard the reports about those sailors on the Lincoln who have been out at sea nonstop for around 9 months now, bad food, moldy showers, and a few sailors trying to jump off the carrier. Evidence: With the recent rebranding of Coca-Cola, they really seemed to lean into using Coke Zero in place of regular Coke, making the branding look closer so that they are almost indistinguishable from each other. If Coke Zero tastes almost identical to Coke, and they keep dialing that recipe in (and make it retain carbonation better), I think combined with recent health fads (even you, MAHA), there is really no downside to pushing Coke Zero over regular Coke.

Date: I think this will happen within the next 5-10 years? The rebrand of Coke Zero from black can to red can/black text seems to have really moved the needle on its popularity - the train is moving quickly. If there is any company that can nail the turnaround of something this, it is modern-day Coca-Cola.

If Trump had died a year ago, his minions would've argued forever about what a great president he was. That's not going to happen now.

Evidence: I live in Lafayette, LA. We have a pretty big ICE presence because LPSO (our sheriff office) is very collaborative and they have offices here. One thing I've noticed about their agents, is they're driving very nice/luxury vehicles and rotating several of them between agents as they use them as patrol vehicles. These are mostly Wagoneers and GMC Denalis. There's also an AT4 and a RAM in a very nice trim. I'm into cars and see these cars every day in a parking lot I pass. These vehicles cost close to $100K each. I have driven past an ICE checkpoint so I've seen them in the field along I-10 in Scott (very common exit) and they parked their luxury trucks along the side of the highway.

The budget for ICE exploded in 2024 when Republicans got their way and they immediately used it to buy a bunch of new toys. Now here's my theory: they're going to buy these $100k trucks as personal vehicles right before Trump leaves office in 2029 and they're going to be sold for next to nothing in no-bid contracts with the agents that are driving them and the rest of their cronies, with the justification they reached a sort of "end of service life". I'm witnessing it first hand in what may be one of the biggest cases of government fraud in US government history.

I wish this wasn’t the case, but he’s looking rough, and family and friends tend to downplay the severity of health issues surrounding prominent figures. Considering his son basically came right out and said that his body is being ravaged by cancer and that he’s nearly 84 years old, I think the writing is unfortunately on the wall. A genuinely decent man who will likely be remembered fondly by history will never live to see any of it.

Over the next several years, by or before 2035 (date), socialism, democratic socialism, or some America-specific version thereof, will become a popular system of government in the US.

Here’s my evidence / hypothesis:

Before the current administration, the US had a reflexive distrust of socialism due to Cold War holdovers. Capitalism and its adherents were able to sway the majority of the public because they “knew better.” However, the 2020s, as a decade, will seen as a major indicator that the current economic system has stopped working. Because of the major failures brought on by Trump, COVID, and rising factionalism, people on the left and right will start looking elsewhere for answers on governance.

The wave of democratic socialism in the US is the first step and will be the only organized alternative that will have evidence of function in the foreseeable future. If Mamdani and the other “new left” have their policies even sort-of work, it will be enough to convince the majority to take a chance on their approach.

Everything Trump touches dies. He has already fractured the Republican Party. Next is the general system of government in the US.
