Any tips for a new player?

Hello there! I got into a small homebrew campaign for the marvel rpg. I’m very excited as a marvel fan, and wanted to see if there’s something I should keep in mind while playing. I’ve mostly played DnD before, so I wouldn’t want to miss on something my character could do due to mechanical differences between systems

Looking for advice/suggestions for X-Men themed Campaign

I'm working on designing an ambitious idea for an X-Men campaign where the party is tasked with playing as the X-Men and have to tackle multiple ongoing situations that're happening at the same time

the idea is that while the X-Men is responding to one situation, the others situations going on will get worse. and so it'd put the players in a situation where they have to strategize on what to focus on first and what will have to wait.

I'm looking for suggestions for scenarios I could implement as options and what sort of consequences might crop up as a result of the team being occupied with another situation

I'm playing it loose with what era this is set in, just going for a traditional evergeen X-Men vibe with Magneto leading the Brotherhood, and the X-Men operating out of Westchester. So I'm not looking for Krakoan era ideas

I own every single expansion, so you've got a lot to work with for suggestions

Use of Expansions to create Adventures

I ran the Cataclysm of Kang, and we loved that it was like a DnD long-form, various increasing ranks adventure. But it seems that CoK is a one-off, as the rest of the adventures created are more one-shots. I see there are many Expansions, but I am unsure how to use them to create an adventure like CoK.

So.. how do you use an Expansion? How do you use it to create a long-form adventure? Or am I missing the point of an Expansion?

Any and all help and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Demiplane Limitations for Rank X?

With the new Secret Wars expansion being released today, I was excited to delve into how Rank X characters function. I primarily use Demiplane to play the game, but I'm realizing that there isn't a way to implement the limitations through Demiplane. I even tried generating the premade Rank X profiles, like Phoenix and Uatu, and couldn't find anywhere on the character profiles where the limitations were displayed. Does anybody know if this is something that can be done? I would love to create my own Rank X characters, but it's kind of hard when I can't apply the limitations.

How long does it take for new expansion releases to make it onto sites like DriveThruRPG?

I wanna purchase that new secret wars expansion as a PDF I can import in Tabletop Simulator, so Demiplane isn't an option

Can someone use Bump Powers/Boost Powers (Power control) on a character that has Powerful Hex?

I am asking because Powerful Hex has a weird variable Focus cost depending on what power you decide to simulate. There is nothing in the book saying Bump Power or Boost Powers cannot target Powerful Hex, but that dynamic cost makes the math really confusing.

The main issue is figuring out what the buffer actually pays. For Bump Power, do I just pay the baseline 5 Focus plus the extra 5 Focus from Powerful Hex, or do I have to pay based on the most expensive power they could possibly simulate? Same thing for Boost Powers: if Powerful Hex is technically their highest power, do I just pay the flat 15 Focus, or do I need to account for the most expensive simulated Focus cost they can potentially launch at their rank?

Standees and Tokens: New Mutants & Sentinels

Not exclusively New Mutants. This is more like a sheet of young mutants +Jeff and Ms. Marvel (if you still want to play her as an Inhuman). I might make a token sheet that’s all Sentinels in the future too to help with army building. It always helps to have a bunch of jobbers, especially with how fast combat in MM can go.

DM me if you want these files as PDFs instead.

I took a bunch of doodles I’ve done and formatted them into standees and tokens. Hoping to use them in a live game at some point.

The standees should be 1.5-inch scale. The tokens are all 1 or 2 inches.

Tiny movement for a frog-like character

My son wants to make a custom hero that is like hulk, but instead of getting bigger, he gets smaller and frog-like while getting super strength powers. This would be an alternate form from his normal human (scientist) form. We are starting at level 1 and advancing through the Kang book as we level up.

A couple questions - based on rules as written, it looks like in tiny form (using the trait Unusual Size: Tiny), he would have zero run speed.

I'm trying to figure out how to mitigate this...even adding Jump powers, this is a multiplier on run speed, which still leaves a big fat zero on movement. And being a super strength fighter, not being able to move at all seems like a deal-breaker on the concept.

In real life, it seems like a frog would move at least one space (5 ft) a turn based on their jumping.

I know flight could be a workaround, since flight speed is errata'd to be unaffected by size, but flight doesn't seem like the right power to add to this character concept.

Perhaps dumping all points into agility could add 1 space of movement once agility reaches +5? At level one, ability cap is 4, so at level 2 it would be possible to reach that.

What would you do to make this melee character more mobile while in a frog mutate form?

And a second point, I see no rules on changing to alternate forms. I'm thinking this is a standard action to switch forms?

Looking at what I have for an Adventure

I have an adventure that I wanted to make to use all of Tony's Workshop and the Character Sheets to give people a chance to play with all the elements the Marvel website additionally provides. I haven't played much of Marvel and want to get an idea of whether this is a well-written adventure and what I could improve on.

Beginner to TTRPG

Hello, I just got my core rulebook today in the mail, but I’m new to these type of games, i understand marvel, i read a lot of punisher comics, I know a lot about spiderman, and the basics of daredevil, and the basics of the avengers. I haven’t opened the rulebook yet, but I’m watching people play and it makes me nervous.

I don’t really understand how I’m going to be able to become a narrator and create a story, the players have no knowledge of Marvel, or knowledge of RPG but one, but he won’t be there the first day. So it’s going to be pretty difficult. I’m looking for advice and suggestions on how to do this, and make this fun and playable!

Spider-Carnage (Ben Reilly)!

Spider-Carnage! A recent build thrown together because of a question asked over on Discord. This is the Ben Reilly version, not the more recent Peter Parker one from the Death Spiral storyline. Clarification on the Symbiote Origin situation. There are only two origins, Knull and Venom. Demiplane separates them primarily as a character-building convenience because Marvel has so many different symbiote variations and lineages and it allows the Demiplane builder to apply the various Powers, Traits, and Tags associated with each variation. Symbiote: Knull represents a more generic Klyntar bond connected to the hive mind of Knull, while Symbiote: Venom represents the specific Venom lineage and its descendants, which have developed additional characteristics through their history on Earth. That’s why the Venom Origin provides a larger mechanical package, including Webcasting and Wallcrawling, and increases the character by two Ranks (unless the character it bonds with already has some of the powers and/or Traits) instead of one.

The individual symbiotes such as Carnage, Toxin, Riot, Sleeper, and Anti-Venom are then handled as variations of the Venom Origin, adding their own Traits, Tags, or Powers. In short, Knull is the broad Klyntar template, while Venom is a specialized lineage within it—an organizational distinction that makes building the many different symbiote characters much easier. Help with a custom Origin/Trait for Peter Parkedcar (Spider-Mobile)

Hey everyone! I’ve been lurking for a while, and I’m really impressed by all the creativity in building profiles here! I’ve got a bunch that I’m working on myself, including Spider-Mobile (Peter Parkedcar) from the Spider-Verse comics and movies, and wanted to get some feedback on a custom origin and trait idea for him.

Origin: Sentient Car

The character is a resident of Earth-53931, a reality populated by living cars instead of humans, or a similar reality.

Examples: Aunt-T, J. Jonah Jalopy, Mr. Reo Speedbuggy, Spider-Mobile (Peter Parkedcar)

Tags: Extreme Appearance

Traits: Big, Vehicle

Powers: Illumination, Speed Run 1, Sturdy 1

Limitation: Unless the character has another origin, they cannot choose other powers.

Trait:
Vehicle: This character can act as a vehicle for other characters they are carrying. You block line of sight to any characters you are carrying. You may voluntarily give control of your movement to an operator, or a character can forcibly take control on their turn with successful check of their Agility vs. your Ego. You can take back control from an operator on your turn with a successful check of your Ego vs. the target’s Agility. An operator uses their own agility for movement checks instead of your agility. If you are being driven/piloted by an operator, you lose your Movement Action on your turn, and your operator can use their Movement Action to move you on their turn.

Is this balanced? Agility is usually used for driving/piloting, but should the checks for control against a driver be vs. Melee, like the driver is forcefully using strength to take control, or an option for either?

Question for the Secret Wars Book Owners: Rank X same format as Galactus?

Title says it all but for my personal profile maker I'm wondering if the format of all Rank X are the same as Galactus' or if someone would be comfortable PMing an image of any Rank X character, doesn't matter which one, just want to get a sense of how their sheet differs from the regular sheet.

Thanks all!

Going to Run For The First Time; Which Books Should I Buy?

I plan on running an X-Factor campaign that's sort've a blend of the group's multiple identities over the years (Government Org, Detective Agency, Corporate Shills). I'm sticking mostly street level with a heavy focus on mutants (obviously), but also with The Hand and The Kingpin playing heavy roles (mostly cause I'm a huge Daredevil fan). I want the game to have a heavy roleplay focus as that tends to be how myself and my players prefer our other RPGs, but with room for creative and engaging encounters (I already have a boss fight with Bullseye, Lady Bullseye and Bushwacker planned out in my head, as well as Sentinel and Donald Pierce encounters).

That being said, which books should I add to my collection? I already own the corebook and the X-Men book, but if I want to make villain encounters more memorable or have more diverse superpowers, which other ones should I buy? Likewise, if I'm looking for more street level characters, is there a book that excels there?

Thanks in advance.
