Matcha Tips - learning how to be better at making it

Hi , i recently started attempting to make my own matcha and i notice i just like..do not taste the flavor at all lol, sometimes it just feels like im drinking milk.

Like i said, i am new so i have recgonized stuff i do wrong and try to fix it but still am curious if theres any other issues:

  1. First, the brand i have is one i got from a local supermarket , nothing expensive or "ceremonial grade" as some people promote at all. I dont know if that affects it.

  2. I also have purchased a bamboo whisk , and i have tried to adjust the way i whisk and water to matcha ratio i use -- however i still feel like im still not getting that creamy texture i see others get.

  3. i know the water cannot be too hot or else it causes the matcha to have a bitter taste - however my issue is not that its bitter, its that i barely taste it lol

  4. i use the correct measurements listed on the box , 1 tablespoon of matcha per 8 oz of milk. The milk i use is a creamy oat milk so i dont know if the milk being extra creamy lessens the flavor of the powder? i know too much powder isnt good either though.

Any advice? thanks in advance? <3

Marukyu Koyamaen - Byakuren (Culinary)

Marukyu Koyamaen’s Byakuren (and Wakatake) “culinary grade” line is still latte grade, and you cannot convince me otherwise. Look at that bouncy microfoam even just water whisked!

4g Byakuren
30 ml warm water
120 ml of oat milk
30 ml simple syrup

Verdict: Byakuren is still good as latte, although Wakatake has more depth and is more “premium” tasting. Both have vegetal/grassy notes with little bitterness.

Both suitable as everyday latte as these are less expensive alternatives! 🌱

Am I supposed to leave the matcha powder in bag or pour it all into the container?

Iced Matcha Latte

Refreshing, creamy, balanced flavor with sweetness and umami. Loved it. Tried lipton earlier but didn’t like. Then tried harney’s, it was ok. And then tried dofotea, it was good.

My original recipe was

1 tsp Matcha

2 tbsp hot water (not boiling)

1–2 tsp honey, maple syrup, or sugar (optional)

1 cup milk of choice

I added oat milk = creamier

Ice cubes

NL matcha

I recently started my matcha journey, and I’ve been loving it so far! My current go-to has been Taigu. They use Uji matcha, and I’m wondering, for those living in the Netherlands or elsewhere in the EU, where do you get good-quality matcha and which milk brand do you like pairing it with? 😌

Chawan seems too big - damaging bristles

Hi guys

I have recently started to get into matcha making and bought on Etsy a Chawan which looks and feels really nice.

The dimensions of the Chawan are: 13.5*7.0cm 500ml

Judging from recipes online, they say a 3grams matcha to 30ml hot water ratio is good - but when I use this on the bowl, because of how wide it is, the water height is minimal. This means when using the chasen, it's always scraping the bottom and the bristles start to go all over the place. I also find it a little tricky to make sure the matcha is fully mixed in.

Based on the above dimensions, is this Chawan typically for making more than one serving of matcha? Or am I doing something wrong and someon has some advice?

Thanks a lot!!

Edit: I like to have an iced matcha latte
