Hey fellas, under packed the amount of floppy disks I have on the trip and want to get the most out of them, will dropping resolution or quality be better for photo capacity and the actual image quality? (FD81)

Success!

Managed to get my CD350 to cooperate long enough to fill a cd :) unfortunately it’s not a RW so we shall see if I can get the next CD initialized but I’m happy to have gotten one 😁

Pushing the CD500 to IS0 400. I was surprised how this came out.

I did straighten it and try to slightly lighten it, but otherwise minimal editing. I don't think it was that noisy at all for being at ISO400, though I had a slow shutter of about 1/20 sec. which probably helped reduce the noise.

Discussion

Hey guys, it's been a while since i did my last post here, college and work are stealing all of my time latelly. I'm steadily increasing my mavica collection, and at the moment I have 4 mavicas, the last one being an FD91. With that in mind, I'd like to know what do you guys do to preserve and maintain your cameras the best possible way and what are your recommendations on this subject. I'd like to hear your opinions, any tips and considerations are welcome!

Handycam

I found this on a local auction site. Would love to have got it but the price went higher than i was willing to pay, given it was being sold as faulty. Was released in 96 from what google tells me, you can definately tell the mavica fd series cameras were based off the same basic design.

Erie county fair on an FD-85

The looks I got from folks when switching floppys were really quite funny.

Made an external power adapter for the Mavica FD75

https://reddit.com/link/1vqcgc6/video/92d7uzveqtjh1/player

Just wanted to show this thing I came up with to allow you to power the camera with an external power source. I got frustrated when I tried to power my camera with a power supply since the battery was totally dead and the stupid thing told me I had to use a genuine infoLithium battery then shut down so I made this that tricks the camera into allowing the external power supply to work. If anyone is interested in making one themselves, just let me know and I will go through the trouble to upload all the files to 3d print it and program the Arduino Nano.

Some shots from Formula E’s last round

It’s weird to be saying it, but I don’t think I’m gonna miss it going from the ExCel, I had fun though!

Finally managed to buy a msac-fd2m. Shockingly for £15.

Still waiting for a memory stick since I don't have one on hand

Was bought untested had intermittent issues with the floppy drive not reading captured images. Cleaned the exterior and regreased the lead screw and cleaned the head of the floppy. It seems to work fine now after some moderate testing. Time will tell

Prices of Mavicas rising absurdly?

I've been buying various types of digital cameras for about 3 years. DSLRs, compact point and shoot, bridge and the venerable Mavica.

My most expensive Mavica was a FD95, from a second hand shop, so it had a warranty (money back if it broke during the next 12 months). That was £25. I've paid as low as £5. Most have been around the £10-15 range.

Recently I'm seeing £30, £40 and even £50 for very average looking models. Clearly some people selling them have no idea what they are. No batteries, charger or disks.

Some of these cameras with sky high price tags aren't even tested. I've omitted the ridiculously priced £400, boxed camera.

I bought a 6MP DSLR with 3 lenses for the same price as one of these. I love my Mavicas, but they aren't in the same territory as DSLRs and bridge cameras. They should be fun and affordable.

The darker side of buying second hand Sony Mavicas finally happened to me.

I bought a FD200 from Goodwill a few weeks ago and in the camera bag there were 14 floppy disks. They had all had their contents deleted but being curious to see if I could see anything from the previous owner and look at period accurate Mavica photos I extracted the raw .img info and gave it to ChatGPT to reconstruct. There's suspected illegal material downloaded on 3 of the disks, on one next to .411 photos of a 2003 family Christmas gathering. I've had to make a report to NCMEC and the local police department. I'll be turning in the camera and the floppies over to them to be booked into evidence. Even though the files are 23 years old I hope justice can happen.

I'm still pretty shaken up. Has anyone else experienced something similar?

The Vaio XP Thrift setup is up and running great after a weekend of trial and error

$20 for this at Savers. Burned some fresh software cds for it so i can avoid the internet.

This media center PC will hold my cd collection digitally to upload to my 3rd gen iPod classic and to serve as home base for my Sony Mavica FD75. I’m stoked to be using XP again!
