White City relocation

Hey everyone! My husband and I are looking to relocate to the White City area for his work, and I’m trying to get a feel for the area more. I’m a stay at home mom to our 1 year old boy so we’re mostly focused on things like safe neighborhoods, family friendly stuff to do, and just overall quality of life. We love the outdoors so I know Oregon won’t disappoint in that department, but we’d ideally like somewhere more secluded-ish or even just quiet neighborhoods.

If anyone has opinions or advice, I’d really appreciate it:

What areas are good for young families who want a quieter, more secluded feel?

Any places you’d avoid or wouldn’t recommend?

How’s cost of living compared to nearby areas?

Is it pretty realistic to find work in healthcare/service/admin type jobs?

What’s there to do outdoors with little kids?

Anything you wish you knew before moving there?

We’re coming from a smaller coastal town, so we’re used to a slower pace already, just looking for a good balance of space, safety, and opportunity.

Thanks so much in advance!!🥰

ETA: Our rent budget would be around $2k max. We have a dog as well so dog friendly area (and property management) recommendations are welcomed as well!

Least expensive vet in the area?

I made a post recently asking for vet recommendations, at the time I was mainly looking for cheap nail trims. As my reactive dog has to be medicated to get them done after a bad experience with a groomer. But I just found out that our cat has an autoimmune disorder effecting his teeth. He has the teeth of a elderly cat at 3 years old. He is going to need extensive dental care. Vca quoted me $1,500 for dental xrays and a singular tooth removal. Which if it was just one, would be doable. But since he is going to probably need multiple, if not all his teeth pulled in the next few years, with the cost of living skyrocketing it's just not feasible to pay the high end price. Basically i'm looking for recommendations for the cheapest vet in the valley. It may not be where we do all of our vet care depending on the quality, but it's our only option for getting our cat the extensive dental care he needs. It's either I find somewhere who will do it on the low end, or we have to put our cat down. I'm open to anywhere in jackson or Josephine County.

Thumbs down road crew

A specual thanks to medford road crews today. Very smart of you to block the intersection of 10th and hamilton with no detour marked. No flagger. Just some cones and enough room to make a 7point turn to turn around. Huzzah!

Im just gonna say it, the big accident on Columbus today would not have been nearly as bad as it was if the road diets didnt exist and it was still 2 lanes both ways

what the title says, the accident on Columbus today happened because the light at West Main and Columbus was backed all the way up to the S jog on Columbus, a car was going around the jog and didnt expect there to be stopped cars all the way back there, causing 5 cars to to get hit in a chain of wreckage. If Columbus was still 2 lanes both ways at that spot, the backup would have been a lot shorter, and likely wouldn’t even be backed up at all bexcuse the light would actually still have good flow.

RV parks for short-term stay?

Relatives (65+yo) are coming to Ashland in August, on their first RV adventure. They need a place to stop for a couple of nights. They likely want quiet, not after-dark partying.

Any recommendations?

I live in OR-02. I've been doing the math. "Republican values" are backwards.

I understand why this district has voted Republican since 1981. Smaller government, fiscal responsibility, Christian values. I understand these principles. But I've been looking at what's actually happened over the past year+ and this is not what's being delivered. These values are weak at best right now. Here's what the numbers actually show:

The tariffs were ruled illegal. The Supreme Court — not liberals, not the media, a 6-3 Supreme Court that has overwhelmingly supported Trump in recent decisions — ruled Trump's tariffs unconstitutional in February. The government now owes $166 billion in refunds to businesses that were illegally overcharged, racking up $22 million in interest every single day. Trump replaced the illegal tariffs with new ones the same week, also deemed illegal. Prices stayed up. The deficit still grew by $250 billion this year despite collecting record tariff revenue, and the deficit will grow further when taxpayers pay back these illegal tariffs. That's fiscal irresponsibility, and taxpayers will bear the brunt of these poor decisions.

We're paying for a war that didn't have to happen. $29 billion and counting. Gas over $4.50/gallon — up $1.30 since February. In 2018, Trump pulled out of the deal that was keeping Iran's nuclear program under strict inspection and hard limits. After he left, Iran accelerated its enrichment and got closer to a bomb than it had ever been while the deal was in place. The war we're now funding — with our tax dollars, troop lives, and money in our wallets at the pump — was made significantly more likely by that 2018 decision. When asked last week how much Americans' finances motivated him to end it, Trump said on camera: "Not even a little bit. I don't think about Americans' financial situation. I don't think about anybody." He was asked about it on Fox News and said: "That's a perfect statement. I'd make it again."

Cliff Bentz voted with all of it. Every single time. He is not leading. He is a sheep. He is showing he does not care about fiscal responsibility or veterans. He voted yes on the Big Beautiful Bill — which independent analysis shows will cut healthcare for up to 70% of children in this district. He voted yes anyway. He's canceled his town halls. He won't take the Vote Smart political positions survey. He's the only person in Congress representing us, and he's made himself hard to reach while voting to cut the programs rural Oregon depends on most.

I'm not asking you to vote a certain way, but please vote for your values. If your reason for voting Republican is fiscal responsibility and straight talk — it's worth asking whether that's what we're actually getting.

Sources on everything above, happy to share.

Southern Oregon Regional Risk Assessment

I’m a long-time local who writes risk assessments and sector reports for Green Econometrics, a Pennsylvania consulting firm. So I wrote one for Southern Oregon to share here. Nothing we don’t all know and most are aware of the individual issues cited…but I thought I’d aggregate the information, organize it, and highlight the potential ramifications. So this is not an attempt to break new ground, it’s just intended to bring issues we’re facing into a single doc to stimulate discussion. Note: my firm integrates Claude 4.7 into our process to support our directed research, to create charts and graphs, and to format output. Content design, development and editorial direction by humans with full audits for accuracy.

Roxy Ann Peak, delivering as always

I wish the gate was opened beyond 2100 so you could actually watch an entire sunset and then go down to your vehicle.

For anyone who visits Roxy Ann a lot in the evening; are they timely in closing the gates? I’ve heard they are and I don’t want to be that guy…

Do I dare try another Jackson County taqueria tonight?

And if so, which one isn't pestilential? I'm looking for something that can do a passable Mission style burrito. I don't want to go to Chipotle in shameful resignation.

Any D&D Groups in the Area?

Hey all,

22 tF, looking to meet other people in person for D&D or other TTRPGs! Mostly looking for people around my age (early to mid 20s), but I don't have a problem going a little older

The games I know are:

  • D&D 5e
  • VAMPIRE 2e
  • Monster of the Week
  • Call of Cthulhu 7e

And I'd love to learn others! PLEASE teach me others

I currently live in Grants Pass, and I'd be willing to go as far as far as Ashland or Roseburg for sessions. Not looking for online groups, and I'm DMing for another group, so I won't be able to play DM

Looking forward to hearing from you all! Feel free to DM me :)

Primary Election Voting

The Oregon SOS office posts the numbers each day of election on voter turnout, and Jackson County is at 16.1%. That is the 6th lowest of the 36 counties, so many people still have ballots to turn in.

Secretary of State Tobias Read has put out information that at this point, all ballots should be placed in a drop box instead of a mailbox, to ensure it gets counted. The two drop boxes in Medford are at the elections office at 1101 W. Main St, and in the library parking lot.

Not a whole lot on the ballot for partisan races, and even less on the ballot for those that aren't a registered D/R. I highly encourage a Yes vote for the RVTD levy, which continues the current funding. I submitted a measure argument in the voters pamphlet in support with fellow Medford City Councilors Garrett West and Jessica Ayres.

Notable races are CD2 for Dems, Governor race for Repubs, and, of course, the one I am on with 4 other candidates, the Democratic nomination for State Senate.

However you vote, I encourage people to get their ballots turned in and make your voice heard. Also to encourage others to as well.
