Any fellow 3D printing nerds here? What have you made for your Miata?

Hey everyone!

I’ve been getting super into 3D printing lately and realized it’s basically a superpower for filling in the blanks on our cars. I’ve been cooking up a few things for mine and wanted to see what kind of custom stuff you all have printed!

Are any of you guys designing or printing your own interior mods, fixes, or fun little accessories? Drop some pictures or ideas of what you've made, I'd love to see them!

The greatest boat on earth…

NC time. My summer drive. The NC2 2010 GT. 6 speed manual. No mods. I like really like this package.

The PRHT is convenient. The comforts of having cup holders on each door, a glove box, heated seats, air conditioner, leather seats, Limited Slip, keyless entry, to the bargain $ price point of this roadster Miata.

I did it! I joined the yacht club. ⛵

I am now the proud owner of a 2008 Grand Touring.

First Miata. I've wanted one since they came out (yes I'm old, I mean seasoned). Finally at a place in life where it made sense.

Tomei Full Ti Muffler Expreme for NC???

Anyone here have much or any experience with the Tomei muffler? I have been scowering YouTube and Reddit but I can't find much in the way of user experience. I've heard some audio clips that sound awesome for the NC Tomei, but I don't know if it's a crazy loud exhaust. I can find a lot for the Tomei for NDs, and it sounds dope AF on those cars. I'm not looking for crazy power gains. I'm still running stock exhaust manifold and stock midpipe. I'm just looking for more noise without going crazy and a better tone.

Engine cutting power after Coolant Bleed

I got my replacement coolant expansion tank and decided that it'd be a good time to also bleed and replace my coolant. Following the Haynes guidelines I've been revving the engine to around 2500 RPM for 5 min which is supposed to be followed by 5 seconds at 3000 RPM but every time I've tried it at almost exactly 5 min the engine cuts power. The vents are blowing hot air during the test and my OBD2 reader is showing that the engine is never getting above 192 F. Is this supposed to occur or is something going wrong? Thanks for any help ya'll can provide!

Replacing Coolant Expansion Tank

Hi all,

I was planning to replace the coolant expansion tank on my NC and bought the IL Motorsport one, thinking it would be pretty similar to the Moroso tank.

When it arrived, though, I noticed it doesn’t have a sight glass / level window to check the coolant level, which seems a bit of a hassle.

Is this still considered a good upgrade? And is the installation doable DIY?

I’m planning a roughly 1,000 km road trip soon, so I’m wondering whether it’s a good idea to replace the tank before leaving, or if I should avoid touching the cooling system right before a trip (maybe the original one is not too chewed up).

I’ll post photos of both the new and old tank.

Thanks!

Replacement Top

Anyone tried using these premade soft top replacements off eBay? Are they any good? Worth the money?

Learning procedure after battery disconnect

Hey yall,

after the heatwave I wanted to check the fan fuse as my boat ran pretty hot. After mindlessly pulling fuses, the idle was super rough and took a few swings to settle to a stable rpm, including dipping to 500.

So I tried disconnecting the battery to reset everything and start fresh. Still not good after a few days.

But I noticed an issue with my positive battery post as the last guy bent it while tightening (it was me...). Couldn't be tightened any more but still was loose enough to pull up with your fingers.

I fortunately have had the opportunity to crimp a new terminal at work. After which I remembered there is a thing to do after the ecu reset.

Ignition on, pressing the gas pedal fully and coming off fully three times.

That teaches the throttle body its positions.

That was it, significant improvement right away with only a little rpm swinging.

Just wanted to share,

pics of the new post for yall as well:

OBD2 hardwire kit causing car alarm to go off

Hi, I recently picked up an NC2 MX-5 and installed a Kawa Mini 3 Gen 2 dash cam and OBD2 hardwire kit for it. However, when I install the OBD2 hardwire kit for it, the car alarm keeps going off. It works fine through the cigarette lighter, but I want to use the parking mode on the dash cam. Has anyone else had this issue with a dashcam OBD2 hardwire kit before?

Drifting

Stock power NC, on the factory Bilsteins with LSD and 6-speed. What tires and what size are you guys using in the rear for drifting? Recently got bit by the bug and have been having a lot of fun sliding it but the 10 year old all seasons I’ve been running are way too hard and slick. Are Kenda KR20 or similar a good choice? Or too sticky for stock power? Looking for something that is good for a beginner to learn how to initiate a drift but also sticky enough to control. Will be running 225/45/17 Kenda KR20 in front.

Force needed to get to 5/6 gear

Hi. I’m looking at a 2006 NC manual. I’m a right arm amputee. On a test drive today I couldn’t get the shift knob over to 5/6. The car does have a very light shift knob, and a pretty short shifter. I know going to a heavier knob and a longer shifter will help, but I was wondering if there were other fixes, too. Perhaps changing out the centering spring. For reference, I’ve owned manuals before and never had this issue. Any help would be appreciated.
