Where should an outdoorsy person in their 20s live around Troy?
Hey! I recently moved to the Troy area for work and my current lease ends in January, so I’m starting to explore where I might want to live next. I’ll probably be looking for at least a 1-year lease.
Ideally I’d like to stay within ~20 minutes of Troy for work, but I’m willing to stretch that a little for the right area.
I’m in my early 20s and not really a bars/restaurants/nightlife person. I’d much rather be somewhere with good parks and trails for running, nature, climbing, hiking, camping, kayaking/paddleboarding, etc. I know the really amazing outdoors are farther north/UP, but I’d love somewhere that at least makes it easy to be outside regularly.
I’m also really hoping to find an outdoorsy community here — climbing friends, run/hiking groups, people who do weekend camping trips or go explore different parts of Michigan, etc. I’d love to get more into climbing in particular.
I’ve heard Royal Oak mentioned a lot for people in their 20s, but nightlife isn’t really important to me. I’ve also been looking at Rochester/Rochester Hills and areas north of Troy, but I’m very new to Michigan and honestly don’t know where the outdoorsy younger crowd tends to be.
If you were in your 20s, worked in Troy, and prioritized nature/outdoor activities + finding an active community, where would you live?
Also, any recommendations for climbing gyms, outdoor clubs, hiking/camping groups, run clubs, kayaking groups, or just good ways to meet people with similar interests would be VERY appreciated.
Have you heard? Hell, Michigan has new ownership.
Little Sable Point, Silver Lake State Park, Michigan
Want the view? Climb for it. 🌊
Little Sable Point Lighthouse is one of those Michigan stops where the small admission fee is absolutely worth it.
Climb the 139 steps to the top, and you’ll get a whole new perspective on Lake Michigan, Silver Lake, and the surrounding dunes.
A little effort. A small charge. A seriously good view.
And yes, your legs may have an opinion about those stairs. 😂
Would you climb it?
Presque Isle Park, Michigan
Lovely day and a relaxing Sunday a few weekends back.
Whitefish Point Lighthouse, Paradise, Michigan
Whitefish Point Lighthouse has guided sailors along Lake Superior since 1861, standing watch over one of the most challenging stretches of water on the Great Lakes. It’s a place where history, resilience, and the power of nature come together. Some destinations don’t just give you a view—they remind you of the stories that brought us here.
Have you visited Whitefish Point, or is it still on your Michigan bucket list?
Pere Marquette Park
A Michigan beach with a lighthouse? Yes, please.
🌊
Pere Marquette Park is the kind of place where you
can walk the sand, watch the waves, and follow the pier toward the lighthouse—all in one stop.
Tip: Give yourself time to walk beyond the beach. The views are worth it.
Would you stop for the beach or the lighthouse first?

I'm looking for advice from others who may have had a similar experience
The sales presentation felt very high-pressure to me, and I felt rushed into making a significant financial commitment. I was also encouraged to invite friends and family to demonstrations in order to qualify for incentives. In my experience, this created uncomfortable situations and put strain on some personal relationships. My Jay Johnson he doesn't care he IS the root cause and HMM let's not question the fact that entity's have been split which mean liability has been too! EVERYONE is going to make their own decisions but check the facts on Mr Jay he cares about HIM not you or me Johnsoncarwabout him the not
After the purchase, I felt the product and overall experience did not meet my expectations. When I later had concerns, I was disappointed with received.
My questions for the community are:
- Has anyone else had a similar experience with in-home vacuum sales programs?
- What options are available if a consumer feels pressured into a purchase?
- Are there consumer-protection resources that might help?
I'm sharing only my personal experience and opinion and am interested in hearing from others who have gone through something similar.
