Hey everyone! I wanted to share a story I’ve been working on over on Wattpad called “Right Voice, Wrong City.”

This story follows what happens when one wrong number turns into something neither person expected.

Story Description:

When Shane Appell asked you to come with them, you didn’t hesitate. Suddenly, you’re living out of a suitcase, dealing with cramped bunk beds, endless band pranks, and trying to find quiet moments with the guy who completely stole your heart.

Shared from Conor’s Corner. Ugh, I love his voice on this song. He sounds like an angel. Can you imagine just casually witnessing something like this? And he said that he was more nervous to perform in front of 20 people here than the thousands at Hyde Park 🥹.

I’ve talked about this before in comments but maybe a post means this can finally get the attention it’s been needing. So here are the completely justified feelings of an utterly exasperated fan:

When something has been brought to your attention by many people multiple times this year alone, you’ve had 2 actual years to cross this off your to-do list, a band member sort of talks about it last year, and still nothing is solved? Well, what is there left to assume other than your goal is to be intentionally exclusionary? And yes, it gets to a point where this becomes intentional. Why else would you still refuse to fix what is fixable and what fans have been leaving you comments on for months? If SLDF has been independent from the start, and they have a US merch store, so can MTM who has the backing and resources of a label. (The other bands do not, but 3Q has a shirt at Hot Topic. Idk.)

And before anyone starts, no. It is not on non-Australian fans to burn through our money irresponsibly because, “Oh, well, you can and you just don’t want to,” or “Oh, you must not love them enough.” Stop. That’s a ridiculous and absurd take. As fans, none of us are obligated to just stomach unfair options from our faves or their team. Why should I have to accept being unfairly squeezed and then told in everything but words that I have no other choice? That’s like saying something is accessible in theory, except some people get a door wide open and other people are given a tiny crack to try and fit their bodies through. That’s not access. It’s on them to do the right thing and make things accessible for fans if they truly claim to care about them and their participation in the fanbase.

There are 2 things that make this look even worse.

• The guys themselves talked about making sure they had music, content, and more ready in time for the show’s launch. Their manager, Andrew Stone, in an interview in November 2025, says the following (including direct quotes):

>Stone said that there was a conscious effort with Midnight Til Morning to be playing at an international level from the start, which meant investment and “dropping the excuses.” […]  “When you’re playing at that international level, you have to perform because the judgment is going to be that much harsher.” […] The success of the band, ultimately, according to Stone, will come down to work ethic, and that goes for both the band and their team. […] “[…] I think it's incumbent on us to provide some context to the opportunity that they are now presented with when it comes to the discipline, the schedule, the amount of work that has to go in to deliver, day in, day out.”

If you wanted them to “play at an international level,” how do you not have international access to—from a basic industry standpoint—physical copies of their work at the very least, never mind merch? Did nobody think this was important? I’ve already talked about how they didn’t have physical copies made until December for an October EP release, likely costing them an AUS Albums #1 spot on the ARIA chart. So outside of touring, what exactly does “playing internationally” mean to Chugg? They seem to have ignored everything else, including one of the most basic components for a worldwide launch. That is nothing short of negligence.

• The second thing is that this also has big ramifications for any future release. We’ve been talking about MTM1 on the sub, which is great and exciting. But even the success of that will be jeopardized if there are no US/EU merch stores before putting out a debut full-length album. To have a successful album launch and attempt to chart internationally, you need to be able to sell physical copies. A shipping charge being more than the actual product will negatively affect and discourage sales. You need sales to chart. I get Chugg is an Australian label, but it can’t be just that if they want MTM to succeed globally like they claim to want.

I love the new merch drop. It looks so good. I would love the posters, mini book, and anniversary shirt. I also loved the handprint “Math” t-shirt drop at the time. I’ll end up with none of it because I refuse to cave on something that should’ve been fixed months ago and drop $90 dollars casually for 2-3 things. I don’t even have their physical work (CD/Vinyl) like I’d like to have because it’s not truly accessible to me. In no universe should shipping costs ever be $25-30 dollars. Money is not something you casually set on fire, especially now.

I go about fandom the same way every time. I can be a massive fan of someone or something while also treating those people as human beings and as fallible. For what it’s worth, it’s how I would want to be treated if I was them, instead of being put on a pedestal you can only fall from. So I will say it again: the MTM HQ offshoot is part of the MTM brand and everything that is done right or wrong becomes a reflection. It’s their name, their brand, and their business since they are the members. Conor put out a message in December of last year (pic) and even he seems to have dropped it. The others haven’t even bothered to acknowledge it at all.

It’s really disheartening to see that neither side seems to care. Even then, it’s as simple as HQ saying, “Hi. We hear you. We want you to feel included. It’s still not possible right now, but we’ll continue to work on it. We know you deserve merch at affordable prices as well.” Like, at least acknowledge fans’ frustrations. They get comments and just ignore them. Then, whatever it is sells out (good for all parties involved I guess) and so nothing ever gets fixed until the next merch drop when they get sent the same comments.

The US is their biggest demographic. There’s a reason they’ve toured Australia only once and the US/EU twice. Half of the members are American, yet this still has to be a conversation. Can somebody explain that to me? Why is Conor the only one saying an inkling of anything? Where are Zach and Shane?

I just have an overwhelming feeling of disappointment right now for all sides involved and it’s a really sucky feeling. It just feels like no side really seems to care about what’s fair and accessible to every fan (or at least most of them). We’ve been here since the beginning. We deserve to rep MTM too and have true access to even just physical copies of their work.

Lastly, to cover my bases, I did some research into Lime Cordiale, Sheppard, Go-Jo, Lane Pittman, and Indiana. The red picture on the right isn’t even the full story. There are some that are hopeful this can be fixed soon. They are welcome to their optimism, but to give you an idea, Lime Cordiale is their biggest artist. Almost 1.1 million monthly listeners on Spotify and big enough to play Red Rocks here in the US, which not even MTM can do yet. Not even they have a US store yet. That tab? It just says something like, “Coming soon. Sign up to be in the loop about the launch date.” Sheppard either. Go-Jo is their third biggest artist and he doesn’t even have a straightforward website. His stuff is on some site named Music Glue. And so on. All of these examples are in varying stages of incompleteness or disarray, which isn’t the best look for Chugg. Which is all to say, this might get fixed in like 5 years, if we're lucky.

Here’s the difference: Lime Cordiale is an entirely Australian group with no American members. They also did not have the international launching pad that was Netflix to boost them and create an instant international audience. The same logic applies to every other act on Chugg’s label. It’s not the first time I’ve questioned whether Chugg knows and understands the difference in these groups — they certainly don’t seem to. And this isn’t an arrogance thing. It’s an acknowledgment of a fundamental difference in the origins and era of MTM compared to the formation and come up of the other acts. If anything, those artists had it harder having to build their base the hard way. Do these acts have US merch stores? No, but they’re also entirely Australian and so are their predominant audiences. Again, it’s not the same.

I’m so proud and happy at how far they’ve come! I’m not at all shocked to see them accomplish so much, even though they’ve only been a known band for a year. I myself discovered them in early October after hearing a clip of “Heart on Fire” and have never looked back. I knew just from watching them that they were special and had a magic about them. I’ve said it multiple times before and I’ll say it here again: if I didn’t think they had it, I wouldn’t follow them. ✨

To this day, going back and watching the show, it’s so crazy to realize how well they chose, having never seen or known each other. To me, they have the deepest bond and comfortability of all the bands and it’s so clear that they truly see each other as best friends and brothers. More than this though, it’s heartwarming to see how loving and accepting they are with each other. Each member needed the others in their life like a missing puzzle piece. What they don’t have, the others make up for and that’s the beauty of a group.

I’m so excited to see what this next year brings them! We’ve already gotten an EP, music videos, amazing streaming numbers, ARIA charting, incredible festival performances in front of tens of thousands, world tours, and more! They’re slowing trying to climb the ladder to get to where they truly want (and are meant) to be. Here’s to MTM1 hopefully before tour and for the breakthrough they’re waiting for to happen! 💛
