Legends 40k

So with only having 3 characters in our legion and it looks like they all made it to legends instead of getting data sheets in 10th, does anyone still run them just as their legends unit? Or has anyone had any success in using some fan made 10th edition cards and point values? With 11th edition coming out is anyone changing the fan made cards into 11th with updated points?

Hecaton Aiakos as a contemptor dread makes sense.

Ivanus Enkomi as a chaplain makes sense.

Asterion Moloc as a captain doesnt, to me. He doesnt even get considered to be in terminator armor. Really this is the one that bugs me the most. The ultra marines have a million named character units and we can't even keep our chapter master. Just wondering what everyone is doing.

The Minotaurs are needed in the setting. (LOTS OF SPOILERS)

Over the last few days I have noticed on Reddit that people on reddit keep doing this: "Minotaurs vs [First Founding Chapter]". Personally, I think it's a bit of an unfair matchup (Because these are chapters designed by the Emperor himself) which I see as a part of the hate culture around the Minotaurs that goes beyond normal Space Marine criticisms. In the same light, we can see the Marines Malevolent and the Carcharadons who have confirmed reports of committing crimes against Space Marine Chapters and civilians alike and should be given the same amount of hate. Such Chapters are vital for the story because they represent what happens when even the "Good Guys" are pushed too far but still remain part of Humanity.

Here are my other points:

  1. The Space Wolves analogy: Minotaurs operate kinda like the 30k Space Wolves in alot of ways. They believe themselves to be superior and are the government's executioners for their time periods against other Space Marines(People love Leman being the Emperor's executioner while Moloc is despised and they ready to point out his flaws even more than Russ who committed bigger mistakes). Leman Russ decimated Prospero because of Horus deception. Asterion Moloc decimated the Lamenters and Inceptors because, like Russ, they were given the order. If the Wolves are as tactical geniuses as they claim to be, why fall for Horus and not double check even if you hate the person you will attack?

Also, the Wolves attacked Imperial Forces during the Months of Shame. The Minotaurs attacked Imperial Forces in Regent's Shadow. The Blood Ravens attacked Imperial Forces on Kaurava. The Dark Angels are the Dark Angels. Yet all these chapters are still standing. Space Marine chapters have a tendency to attack Imperial Forces so the idea that only the Minotaurs should be exterminated would make sense if ALL chapters would be forced to pay for their crimes to the Imperium. Which leads me to:

  1. Corruption. The Imperium of Man is by far one of the most corrupt governments in literature. Nothing in the Imperium is fair and a government tool meant to keep the other institutions of that government in check is of course pandered and placed above consequences. It makes sense to hate the Minotaurs for it. But once again, all Chapters have a tendency to place themselves above Imperial Law and do as they see fit. And many fans do not bat an eye. That tendency of being douchebags is par for the course in Space Marine culture with exceptions (there are always exceptions.).

  2. Necessity: As I've mentioned, Space Marines often put themselves above law and mostly get away with it. I believe Guilliman also keeps these troublemakers around cause he needs every single asset he can get his hands on cause things are not looking good (Perturabo coming back, The Great Rift and Xenos everywhere). If the troublemaker can crush a rebelling Chapter Master and not cause a massive reduction in resources, I think he would keep them around. Also, according to Regent's Shadow, Guilliman has placed loyal High Lords so by default Moloc and his Marines listen to him. P.S: If Guilliman wanted them gone, he would have declared them traitors and he'd have all of Terra in his arsenal (+ Some very happy Fists).

In conclusion, I believe the Minotaurs do deserve some hate for their actions, especially for their controversial actions during the Badab War but they should be given a fair balance of hate and praise for their role in the imperium since they are often the ones who deal with rebelling chapters that's where their specialties lie. As for being an edgy writer's OC's, Space Wolves can be placed in the same boat if we examine their characteristics side by side. Also, the whole of 40k lore suffers from these type of issues so it's not a Minotaurs only issue.

I am open for discussions and I hope the comments will be civil for a discussion in which people hate for the fun of it and not examine an issue where not even the Grey Knights receive this amount of hate. And they are ordered to keep BIG E ON THE GOLDEN THRONE.

Obviously I have not mentioned everything and if I made a mistake, feel free to discuss in the comments.

Markings (Squad and company, chapter honours)

So as I'm gearing up to build my army, I am getting REALLY in the weeds planning my paint jobs. One roadblock is markings. I've already looked over Imperial Armory Volumes 10 and 12, and have heard most peoples opinion of "rule of cool, just paint what looks good". Unfortunately, my brand of autism says an internal logic is cool.

Do any of you have preferences or opinions on how to denote squad and company?

Despite deploying most often as a whole chapter, the Minotaurs still have companies. They do not designate them with colors like other chapters. Any ideas? Any ideas? I had previously thought I could base it off particular areas of the armor painted red, but with Red pauldrons already seeming to denote Veteran status, and red arms seeming to be for particularly aggressive units (melee weapon arm, or heavy guns), I have started to dislike the idea of using other red armor plates to designate Company.

Likewise, I had considered using greek letters to designate squad, but much of the artwork shows individuals with many MANY different letters each, so I don't exactly have a good idea for that either, and think the letters may be more akin to campaign badges, showing their military history each.

Then there is the matter of the chapter honours. IAv10 makes note of 2 minotaur specific honours, the Bloody Mantle and Red Hand. One would assume that the Red Hand is designated by hands painted red, though the unit with it noted being a Dreadnought and not having its one hand (other is a gun) red seems to contradict this. The Terminator with the Bloody Mantle doesn't seem to have anything unique about it compared to other terminators. I am using Wolfguard Headtakers with weapons swapped for spears as proxies for my bladeguard veterans, and think I might throw some red paint on the fur, and say the Bloody Mantle is an actual animal hide mantle, with red paint (symbolically blood)

Does anyone have opinions on any of this? insights? ways you have denoted company or squad in your own Minotaurs Army?

Minotaur Recruitment

**turns chair around and sits on it cool style**
Hey, lets talk about child soldiers.

Where do you guys think the Minotaur's get their new recruits from? I've never heard it said outright, just speculation that they pick new aspirants up anywhere they go. I've also heard that in inducting new members, and in maintaining current battle brothers, they employ a greater-than-average amount of hypno-indoctrination for a space marine chapter.

With that in mind, I'm gonna float you an idea.
Any time they are sent after another space marine chapter, they take their aspirants. They have someone talk the kids down "hey the chapter that was raising you was selected to be purged for doing PROBABLY heretical things, but we know you are all young and probably innocent, don't worry, you'll still get a chance to be space marines", talk them down just enough to agree to some hypno-indoctrination, and then erase their memory of the prior chapter, and possibly even their homeworlds.

I don't think this is necessarily true, but it feels appropriately fucked up, for the minotaur's, and in a disturbing way, almost parasitic on other chapters. What do you guys think?

Minotaurs printed model I painted

I bought a lot of these 3d printed Minotaurs and finally decided to paint the first one. I included the paint I used and the “primer”( it’s folkart chalk paint.) over all I found him really enjoyable to just try new paint. as a Necron player who paints mostly with silver, blue, and gold I really like the bronze and red for this guy. one major hurdle and downside to the paint scheme would have to be the power spear. I just couldnt get the checker pattern and glazing for the blade right. the lightning effect looks good IMO.

as for what army they will be a part of I’m thinking of making a khorne army as what these guys will proxy. Focusing on overwhelming numbers and a tank or 2 nothing too meta but still able to take a win here and there.

stls and help

Hey fellow Minotaur fans,

I've got a filament printer and I'm trying to find some decent lion pelt capes/cloaks STL files for my Minotaurs project, but I'm not having much luck. Most of what I've found so far is either designed for resin printing or doesn't really fit the aesthetic I'm after.

Has anyone come across any good lion cape, lion pelt, or Greek/Roman-themed STL files that work well for Space Marines? More generally, I'd love to see any recommendations for Minotaurs-themed STLs, bits, creators, or kitbash parts that you've used in your own armies.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated—thanks! 🪓🐂
