Fruitful week of tape exchanges

I received three awesome tapes this week.

First up, these two from u/Easy_Contract_757

I got lost in space with Asimov's Radio then siphoned through the vortex to a primitive age Where Ancients Tread. There I crushed my enemies, saw them driven before me, and heard the lamentations of their women (I am absolutely loving this one).

Once back on Earth and returned once more to my normal timeline, I hardly had a chance to unpack before u/MutantsoftheEast had me pulling out the map and hitting the highway for a road-trip to the Pine Tree State. Special thanks for all the cool stickers and stuff sent to accompany me on the journey. I've never been to Maine but they say it's the Way Life Should Be and who am I to argue?

I don't know about y'all but I am loving this so far. I've been making mixtapes and giving them away at local record stores and the like for a couple of years now but I'd not received any until I found this place. I love seeing the creative and different approaches folks take with their tapes. The care and attention to detail everyone puts in is both impressive and inspiring.

Thanks y'all! Let's trade some more tapes!

Two tapes came in, just in time for the weekend!

Both tapes from u/se7en8n9ne I really appreciate their minimalist style and the horizontal layout of their Jcards. Also their tapes are high quality the mixes sound great. I highly recommend trading with them, if you get a chance.

Experimental/Psychedelic: A great mix of stranger rock songs, best praise I can give is that the tape has the perfect balance of well known songs sprinkled across the more obscure stuff. All of them bangers!

Fresh Old School: Man, what a nostalgia blast. All the old schools hip-hop I grew up on. So many timeless choices, sequenced perfectly to set the vibe. My wife and I are listening to this one right now while drinking rum drinks on the patio.

Up for grabs - 1 of 1

Here's a tape I made many, many years ago for a mixtape exchange that, for some reason, I never ended up sending to anyone. It's just been sitting here all this time, so I'd like to give it a home and send it to someone who will enjoy it.

It's packed with death metal, metalcore, mathcore, progressive metal, and technical death metal.

First person who wants it can have it.

It's affectionately titled “Fuck Paul LePage.”

Halloween Mix

I usually do a Halloween mix every year... I'm already thinking about this year.

Hit me up if you're interested in a copy.... I'll send dupes out to anyone who hits me up before October 1st. I'll cover the shipping cost on the first five people that hit me up.

EDIT: the first five have been claimed. DM me if you're still interested, shipping should just be a few bucks.

July exchange with MutantsOfTheEast

Got this bag of goodies from u/MutantsOfTheEast for the July exchange. This is a really cool mixtape of mostly new songs to me!

Come check out Metal Punk Tape Exchange on Instagram!

If the name Metal Punk Tape Exchange makes you think you need to be exclusively into metal and punk, don’t let that scare you off!

The “Metal Punk” part is meant to encompass a huge swath of heavy, weird, abrasive, experimental, underground and alternative music. Think of it like a regular mixtape exchange where you might see folk, grunge, synth, rap, shoegaze, etc., except these tapes lean toward the heavier-ish end of things.

Your tape could just as easily feature Suicide, Judge, Devo, The Adicts, Amyl and the Sniffers, Poison Idea, Sunn O))), Dark Angel, Korn, Cannibal Corpse, Black Sabbath, Mayhem, DragonForce, Buckethead, Green Day, Crucifix, Pig Destroyer, King Gizzard, Converge, Portal... and that's barely scratching the surface.

There are no genre police here. If it fits the spirit of the exchange, throw it on the tape.

The next round will be announced next month!

Results from a busy few weeks of trades

"Fresh Old School" and "Tiger Mountain Peasant" from u/se7en8n9ne. The former is a great blend of older hip-hop, and the latter is a solid miniature featuring the folksier side of rock. Both are excellent and I highly recommend trading for them if you can.

"A Beautiful Infinity" is mix of ethereal yet still grounded tracks split into two movements. "Son of Summer Frankenstein" is a really great upbeat mix. My wife and I were pleasantly surprised that one of the tracks she put on the first mix CD she made for me was on here. Both of these were from u/MrAtomSteam, who also happened to be my first match in the themed monthly mixtape trade! Great J-cards, too!

"Music of the Inland Empire" from u/Easy_Contract_757. A really eclectic mix of local music tracked in a way that sounds very cohesive. Also loving the distinct art direction with all of their mixtapes, and of course the buttons and stickers were a great addition!

"Off Leash" from u/AnalogSally. Also really digging the way they put together their tapes. This is a one-off that was made with the same vibe as their Roadtrip Mixtape, and even came with a Biz Markie card! I sent back a 90s-ish mix and a Saved by the Bell trading card in return. Also looking forward to receiving my first mix from the Instagram @mixtape.exchange they run as well!

Finally, we have "Around the World" parts 1 and 2 from u/MrLCGriso. These were the first mixtapes I traded for, and it's just wall-to-wall bangers on each. Highly recommend, even if world music isn't your thing. LCG also helped me with troubleshooting some issues I was having with recording, so I sent them a few extra tapes in return.

Really digging the community and all the great new (to me) music I've been able to hear.
