



This photograph was taken at the 1962 Pacific Grand Prix held at the Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, California. Roger Penske, who later enjoyed even greater success as a race team owner, drove to victory.
This image by Jack Brady Associates documents the race-day atmosphere surrounding the 12 Hours of Sebring endurance race in March 1961. Sixty-five cars qualified. Drivers Phil Hill and Olivier Gendebein, in a Ferrari, covered nearly 1100 miles in their victory.
At the 1964 U.S. Road Racing Championship event in Augusta, Georgia, Shelby American Cobras placed 1-2 in the Manufacturers' race. In the Drivers' race, Dave MacDonald's Shelby Cooper-Ford finished ahead of Jim Hall's Chaparral.
Published in the Daily Messenger in retrospective piece entitled "An Age of Giants" on July 3, 2008 with the caption: "A 1968 Formula One Cooper driven by Vic Elford look fragile by today�s standards, particularly its wing. The cars were fragile - and the drivers unprotected. The casualty rate was shocking."
Al Unser Celebrates Birthday With 500 Victory -- Al Unser, the Indianapolis 500 defending champion, waves his arms in salute as he takes the checkered flag to win the 55th running of the Indianapolis 500-mile speedway race Saturday -- on his birthday. Unser is from Albuquerque, N.M. The flagman is at right.
This image by Jack Brady Associates was taken during the 1960 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Joyce Thompson, pictured here, became the first woman to compete in the event that year. Thompson finished 13th in an Austin-Healey she called the "Termite."
