Calories not adding up properly?

Am I tripping? 204g carbs, 57g fat, 122g protein consumed but says that is 1670cal. Shouldn’t that be 1817 cal??

Now I’m over my daily goal because it said I still have 110 cal left to eat.

ETA: when I went item by item for the day, everything is way off!

Take the avocado, for example. Says total calories are 240, but carbs are 53g (net carbs are 43), fat 22g, protein 3g. That should be 422 cal. Even if you don’t count the fiber, that’s 382cal.

Anyone else snap a photo of their meal and log it later?

I started doing this a few months ago. Eating out with people and I didnt want to be the person with my phone out calculating macros at the table, so I just took a quick photo and logged it when I got home.

After the first few times of trying to manually log, I bit the bullet and paid for a year of MFP so I could use barcode scanner, meal scanner and save the recipes I regularly make at home.

Now i use meal scan pretty regularly and I have been able to eat out with more confidence as it helped me realzie perfection is not required but consitency is. I have continued to maintain a 40+ lb weight loss by making efforts to log everything and not stressing as much about the nuance.

If I am anywhere but home, its photo first, log then and there. Meals out, food at events, etc. Obviously if something has a barcode I will scan it (like concessions at a sporting event) but if i feel like its way off i will reference nutrition again later.

I have really appreciated that I feel like I can stay present and enjoy inndlugences wihtout causing a scene or spending too much time on my phone.

MFP Buddies

I would love to add a few people on MFP to help with accountability. I don’t have any local friends who are on a weight loss journey. How have you found friends to add in the app?

I’m 35F, a parent and work full time. Would be happy to add anyone. But maybe other parents will have similar experiences.

Thanks!

Hard time tracking calories

Hello all, I have previously used Myfitnesspal in the past but what prevents me from staying consistent is tracking calories efficiently. Tracking packaged food is no problem, however, is it possible to track certain home cooked meals accurately/guesstimate accurately without knowing all the ingredients? Has anyone else did the same, not all of us are in control with our diets.
Thanks!

MFP now supports sub-1.2k calorie counts?

Not sure what to flair this as- and also plz don’t take this down for ED behavior I swear it’s not! I just noticed after accidentally not logging all my food!

Previously if you only logged less than like 1k cals or something it wouldn’t let you close out the day and get your weekly tracking etc right? Well I (again. accidentally!) only logged half my food for the day and it had no problem with it? I then went and checked and it lets me set whatever calorie goal I want, with just a “this is unhealthy” disclaimer.

I honestly find this concerning with the rise in Ozempic and disordered and restrictive eating habits. Was it always this way? Anyone else notice this? Am I imagining that it used to bar disordered goals?

Steps not tracking

I used the app a while back and wanted to again to help get back in shape. It used to track steps from fit/Fitbit. I still have the Google watch I had which now uses Google health.

It's not logging/syncing steps regardless of whether I choose fit or health (both of which have steps in them so it's not the source that's an issue) and I get an error message when I try to disconnect Fit that says it can't be disconnected.

Weirdly yesterday/this morning it seemed to track a few hundred in the early hours as I tried to cycle options but it's not working otherwise. I logged a walk with Google Health earlier and that has tracked through properly.

I like the app for logging food but I would like to track my movement in the day so I can have a few more calories to play with!

I did email support, which got me an automated response of things to try and a note to say "reply to this email if this doesn't work" but replying to the email returns a postmaster error - undeliverable!

help!?

Steps not matching Google Fit

For some reason my MFP steps and Google Fit steps mismatch even though Google Fit is the only connected app and where I selected for my steps to be drawn from. What could be causing this? Thanks.

Every decision is bad!

How did they manage to make the goals menu worse! App was better 2 years ago than it is now!

What the hec is the new interface

I hate this. I can’t see all my food easily on one page. More clicks to add food. This is a nightmare. After 7 years with MFP I can’t continue

Free vs Premium vs Premium+? Does paying really make a difference?

Been on free for a couple months now and it does the job most of the time buttt I keep getting hit with locked features which is hella annoying.

Trying to gauge is premium is worth the dollars. The free version covers the basics food diary, calorie goals, manual logging but no barcode scanner. That might sell me just it's nice to log a protein bar quick and those things.

I know mfp premium also unlocks AI meal scan, voice logging and macronutrient stuff. Did the same thing with premium+ found out adds meal planning, a bunch of recipes, auto-logging, grocery lists.

My question is less about features tho and more like when does paying actually change how you use the app? Does premium help you truly stay consistent and on track with goals better than when you used the free version? Features are nice but do they work? LMK

How to lose weight if you are not supposed to go under 1200 calories??

I’m frustrated with the way the app shames me if I eat under 1200 calories. I’m a short woman who doesn’t get much exercise. I gained almost 15lbs in the past year and want to get back to my normal weight. Fitbit says I burn an average of 1400 calories a day on days I walk/jog. Less on sedentary days. MFP has 1400 as my daily goal and refuses to even give me an estimate of my weight loss if I only eat 1199 calories in a day. It’s been a few weeks of careful tracking & staying between 1400 and 1200. The scale has not budged. Am I just wasting my time with all this?

How can i cut down on fats without cutting down on protein?

My biggest issue is im eating a lot of chicken with sauce. Bang bang sauce, general tso sauce, mayo. I can't stand plain chicken or plain beef, so i will simply not eat whole meats if there's so sauce. Pork tenderloaim tends to have the same issue - all the tasty dinners have sauce... any recommendations for recepies with low fat sauces, or protein that doesn't taste like shit? Open to vegan / veg / supplements

Just want to rant about "1 cup" measurement

Why can't everything be in grams and ml? 1 cup has to be the stupidest thing ever.

And I hate it when I close the diary tab, the app closes. It should rather go to the homepage but it just exits.

Why can’t I change my fitness/macro goals anymore?

I dont know what the heck happened but up until today I could change all of these things, I can change the cals but when I save it goes back to this number, but I am really confused why I have to pay now to change the macro goals. This is just being money hungry, I shouldnt have to pay a fitness app to adjust my macros to my goals. Also there is constantly bugs in this app and im sick of it, I do write things down in a planner but this is nice because I dont have to write down all of the macros and this just does it for me I really don’t want to have to look everything up, is there another app I can use?

Repetition and whole foods seems to be the sweet spot

I have been on and off with MFP since about 2011. The friction of logging food has always been my biggest barrier to consistency.

But now I’m almost 40, I’m finding the need to calorie count more important than ever.

But I’m also busier than ever (work, managing a house, family).

What seems to be working this time, reducing the friction most is sticking to whole foods and eating the same foods (albeit a variety) each week.

I’ve finally learned that a handful of Haribo really is harming my daily allowance. Etc. these “harmless” grabs compound and stack up in the shape of tummy fat.

Anyway. That’s my thoughts. Obvious to some. Hopefully helpful to someone.

Here’s my breakfast plus x2 double espressos and a cup of tea with milk.

My steps never match

I have Google Health and Google Fit and a Google Pixel watch. Google Fit and Google Health have different numbers, and Myfitnesspal number doesn't match either of them. Google Health number matches my watch. I've been playing with it for several days and done everything Google has suggested. The last two days I had over 13,000 steps and both days a little over 9,000 synced onto myfitnesspal.

Right now, I have Health Connect connected and that is connected to Google Health. Everything is checked allowed. I've made sure the battery is unrestricted on all of those apps. I miss the Fitbit app. It always worked correctly.

Does anyone have this same configuration and it is working correctly?

Thanks for any help. I have a Samsung 25 Ultra phone.
