I'm writing a PMD Story. PMD: Bark and Bubble! These are the first 5 chapters (it's unfinished)

Chapter 1: The Singer’s Debut Act

I wake up, head throbbing. Oorgh… where am I? I open my eyes. A face is right in front of me. A shiny Phantump. “Aah—! A Phantump! Get away from me!” I scramble backward, my heart jumping into my throat. The Phantump flinches. Then it speaks. “…I didn’t want to hurt you.”

I freeze. …It just talked. Pokémon can talk? That’s… weird. No, that’s impossible, right? I stare at it, trying to process what I just heard. “W-What are you even saying?” I blurt out. The Phantump looks even more confused than I feel. I narrow my eyes. “If you ‘didn’t want to hurt me,’ then why were you floating right above my face?!”

It replies, “I was just confused to see one of your kind here.” What do they mean by “my kind”? Do they mean humans? “Yeah, I’m a human.” I say, “So what?” The Phantump looks me dead in the eyes, then looks me up and down, smirks, and says “Yeahhhh…no. You’re not a human.” Not a human? What is this Phantump talking about? “Well kid, I am sure that you’ve never seen a human before.” I said “So who are you to judge if I’m one or not?”

The Phantump replies “Well, I’m pretty sure I know what humans look like,” They say, narrowing their eyes. “But we won’t get into that right now.” The Phantump just keeps staring at me. I feel my annoyance spike. “Kid, you’ve got no idea what I really—” “A-ACHOO!”

I jerk forward mid-sentence.“…Ugh. Sorry. Where was I…” I glare back at them. “Right. You have no idea what I really am!” The Phantump doesn’t respond. They aren’t even looking at me anymore. They’re just staring at a bubble drifting through the air. “…Are you even listening to me?” The Phantump looks past me again. “Ooh… look at that pretty bubble!” “A bubble?” I echo, still annoyed. But I glance anyway.

It floats gently through the air, drifting too smoothly to be normal. Strange… where did it even come from? I lean in slightly. Wait. Inside it—My reflection. I freeze. “…What?!”

Chapter 2: First Impressions, Worst Impressions

A Popplio. A Shiny one. That’s what’s looking back at me in the bubble’s reflection. I stare at it. It stares back. "...No." I lift a paw. The Popplio in the bubble does the same. My stomach drops. "...No. No, no, no…! I am mortified! The Phantump just chuckles. “Told ya,” they say, in a singsong voice. I glare at them. “How is this funny?!” I snap. “This is my lowest moment!” They just keep floating there, way too amused with themselves. How rude.

This kid is being so rude right now. I look back at the bubble. A shiny Popplio stares back at me. The bubble suddenly pops. Cold water splashes straight into my eye. "AAH! AAAAH!" I jerk backward in surprise. Big mistake. I can’t find any balance. I'm tipping over.

"W-Whoa—!" Thump! I land flat on my back against a tangle of tree roots. "AAAAH!" I slowly open my eyes. My head is resting at just the right angle for me to see my body. I freeze. Indigo. Round. Tiny flippers. And…no legs...That's it. That's the last confirmation I need. I really am a Popplio. A…shiny Popplio.

No wonder I couldn't keep my balance. I don't have legs anymore. I just... flopped over. But this could still just be a dream, right? No…my back still aches from landing on those roots. It…hurts. Which means...this ain't a dream. The Phantump grins. "So... Do you believe me now?" I sigh. "...Yes." Their grin grows wider. "Say you were wrong." "...I was wrong." "Good." They nod smugly. "Now say you're a stupid, ignorant baby." I stare at them. "...Why would I say that?" They shrug. "Because it'll be funny." "...No, I’m not gonna say that."

"Well," they say with a little giggle, "I was going to lead you to the city." They point off into the forest. "If you refuse..." They giggle again. "Good luck finding it!" I realize I practically have no chance of finding the city without them. So I comply…“Urrgh! Fine!…I’m a stupid…ignorant…baby.” I say reluctantly, and also very annoyed at this Pokémon’s childish antics.

The Phantump bursts out laughing. Hard. Like, really hard. They’re practically crying, and having fallen to the ground from laughter. “Pff—! HA—! I can’t— I can’t—!” I stare at them, absolutely mortified. My face burns...I will remember this. One day. I am getting them back for this. …I keep waiting for them to stop. To take a breath. To calm down. They don’t. The Phantump just keeps laughing. Harder, even. Still rolling there like it’s nothing. I blink…Right. Of course. Phantump don’t need to do that, do they? They aren’t alive, they are spirits!

I could be here for hours. Annoyed, I make a decision. I don’t need them. I can find the city myself. My eyes flick to their satchel…Map. Perfect. Before I can talk myself out of it, I lunge for it. I reach for the satchel. My fingers brush it—Got it. “Ha—!” I barely have time to celebrate before—WHAM! Something slams into me from the side. “Oof—!” I hit the ground hard, the breath knocked out of me. The satchel is gone. The Phantump is hovering over me, clutching it tightly. “…Hey!” I snap. “What was that for?!

“Stealing’s wrong, y’know!” they say, as if they didn’t just body-check me into the ground. The Phantump hovers there, still holding the satchel. They watch me carefully. “…You’re mad,” they say. “Of course I’m mad!” I snap. I drop into what I think is a battle stance…Whatever that even means in this body. “Give it back!” I lunge forward and swing. “Pound!” My flipper hits them—Or at least, it should’ve. It just…passes through. Nothing. I blink. “…Huh?” The Phantump tilts their head. “Oh. Right,” they say sarcastically. “That won’t work on me.” I stare. “What do you mean it won’t—”I try again. Same result. Nothing.

My confidence drops immediately. The Phantump watches me for a second. Then they yawn. Loudly. Mockingly. “…Really?” they say, still floating there with their satchel in their grasp. I glare at them. The Phantump lets out a long sigh. Like they’re already done with me. They turn away, still holding the satchel. And start drifting off through the trees. I stay frozen for a moment. …No map. No way to fight them. No idea where the city is. “…Tch.” I grit my teeth and follow. Defeated.

Chapter 3: The City of “Darkness”

On the walk, I warm up to the Phantump...barely. We talk, and I learn that his name is Twig. Weird name, but I keep my mouth shut. I soon see something on the horizon. “What’s that?” I ask. “That’s the Blackened Tower, that is!” Twig replies. “The city’s central landmark! The city is built around it!” I look at him, confused. “Couldn’t you just say that it’s a nucleated settlement?” I ask.

Twig looks at me, his turn to be confused. “What does that word mean?” he says. “How old are you?” I ask. “You never told me.” Twig replies. “About 8 or 9, why?” Well, that makes sense. He’s mentally similar to a 4th-grader… “I don’t feel like explaining it,” I say. Twig looks a little sad. “Oh, okay. I just wanted to know, cuz—Oh! We’re here!” “This is Srylith! Many call it the City of Darkness!” We are at a large stone wall, with two guards, both Murkrow, guarding the city.

I am awestruck. The city is huge! I thought it would be something smallish, something that would be fully traversable in the span of an hour or two. This was huge! I’m already pumped to see what it has in store. The guards let Twig in after he shows a pass-looking object (an ID Card/Entry Pass, to clarify) but they don’t let me in. They ask about me, to which Twig replies with “Oh, she’s with me! I’m taking her to get registered.” The guard on the left immediately changes up their tone.

They offer to escort me to where I will be registered. As we walk, I look around at everything, in awe. This was all made by Pokémon?! I can’t believe it! I am surprised to see that I am being escorted to the Tower. That must be where I’m being registered. We are there, and we enter! What could be inside? A grand, nice entrance hall filled with Pokémon? Some town banners, maybe? Some desks at least?

Nope.

It’s small, empty, and very dusty. All there is is a spiral staircase. I ask about it, and the Murkrow tells me that this is an empty floor and things all happen on the floors above this one. “So we have to go up…” I say as I take a glance up. “…all that?!” “Yes,” that bird says nonchalantly. Twig and my escort head to the spiral’s center, where a stone tube lies, an entrance hole at its bottom, and they fly up it, with Twig only saying, “Good luck!” before disappearing up too! HOW RUDE!

I am irate. But, admitting defeat, I suck it up and go all the way up, to the 3rd floor, where my “““friend””” and the Murkrow are just sitting there, with bored expressions I might add, while I’m practically DEAD ON THE FLOOR IN FRONT THEM!! I am so miffed that ghosts can’t be killed, ‘cause if they could, this kid would be…Dead. Where. He. Stands. I feel like attacking him at least, but I know that I don’t have any moves that can hit him.

I sit there deathly silent. I don’t say a word. I don’t even look at him. I just sit there, silently fuming. The Murkrow, which I vastly prefer over Twig, knocks on the door and leaves. “Wait! Don’t leave me with Twig!” I shout as the Murkrow walks away. I’m stuck with this wood-brain. Greeaat! He’s doing a mockingly content and smug face. I feel like attacking him, but knowing that I don’t have any moves that can hit him, I sit there deathly silent.

I’m still absolutely furious. Twig is sitting there with that same stupid, mockingly content expression on his face. Oh, how I wish I could wipe that look off his face. I suddenly feel something. A move. I don’t know how I know it, but I do. Icy Wind. I blink. ...I can use Icy Wind?! I don't care how or why I suddenly know that move. I have a move that can hit him. And not only can it hit him... It's super effective.

I slowly turn my head toward Twig. He’s still making that stupid face. I stare at him. He stares back at me. I take a deep breath. Then I unleash Icy Wind. A blast of freezing wind rushes out of my mouth and straight toward Twig. His smug expression instantly disappears. His eyes widen in shock as his entire face becomes covered in ice. I stare at him. Twig stares back at me, frozen in place. ...Worth it.

Suddenly, the door opens…

Chapter 4: Bubbles

It’s a Sneasel, a Hisuian one. I find that weird. Why is it a Hisuian Sneasel? Aren’t Hisuian forms adapted to Hisui’s climate? But this is a temperate area, so a Sneasel, a Pokémon already known for living in mountains, being here? And that could be normal, but a Hisuian one?! And he just saw Twig with an ice-covered face and me just sitting there.

That must’ve been a weird first impression. He invites me in, but stops me and tells me, “Hey, can yoooooouuuuuuuu....uuuuhhhh…nevermind-nevermind, just come in.” The Sneasel points at Twig. “Also, what happened to him?”

“That’s not important,” I say. They say, “Well, it’s time to get you registered!” I sit in front of their desk, and they pull out a form and start with, “Name?” “Eeeeerrrrrrrrrrrm…damn, I can’t remember!” I say. “I need to put a name on here, though,” they reply. I can’t think of anything, though, so I tell him to give me ideas. “How about…Bubbles!” they suggest.

Honestly, that sounds good enough, so I accept it. “Great!” they say. “Now…Origin!” “I’m actually also unsure about that too,” I say. The Sneasel is surprised. They say, “With how much you ain’t remembering, you seem like an amnesiac, so I’ll skip that too. How about gender? Do you remember that at least?” I at least remember that. I’m a girl!

“How old are you?” the Sneasel continues. “I’m…not sure,” I reply. “Ah yes…” they say. “An amnesiac.” “Are you a minor or not, though?” I was definitely an adult before this happened. I tell him this. “Well, that should be enough for the registry,” the Sneasel says. “Now we need to worry about where you will live.”

Chapter 5: Stuck with the Stump

“First, what should I call you?” I ask. “Oh, call me Tyler!” he replies. “Now…to get back to the original issue, you will need someplace to stay until you can get a place of your own.” He goes through the openings. I’m fine being with whoever for like a month or two. But it turns out it’ll take a while for him to get the records straight, so I’ll be sleeping in the tower tonight!

Tyler leads me to the guest room. It’s actually not that bad. It’s pretty bland, but the bed is comfy. I get comfy quickly, but I still have issues processing what happened today, all the transformation and new world stuff…and Twig, so I can’t sleep. Eventually, I do fall asleep, though.

I have a weird dream. I am in a dark place, human again, and there is a light far away. On closer inspection, it’s an exit sign. As I run towards it, it keeps moving away, and as I keep chasing it, I am slowly being transformed, unable to keep up. Truly weird.

I wake up, heart pounding. It was just a dream, but still, it was pretty terrifying. I get out of bed, checking myself. “Yup,” I say, annoyed. “Still a Popplio. No dreams in dreams, I guess.” I leave the room, and Tyler meets me outside, giving me breakfast. Some toasted bread with berry spread.

After breakfast, Tyler heads back to his desk to work on my living sitch. A couple hours later, he brings me to who I’ll live with for the next month or two. I’m honestly okay with anyone, as long as it isn’t…HIM. Tyler brings me to the house and knocks on the door. I’m wondering who it could be? But…

Twig answers the door. I look at Tyler. “Tyler?” I ask. “Where’s the nearest cliff? Cuz I’m not living with this guy.” “Oh, don’t say that,” Tyler says. “I’m sure you’ll get along well enough!”

I begrudgingly come in, deciding to speedrun getting my own place. What now? What do I even do from here? After finding my room, I decide to go outside. I tell Twig it was to check out the neighbourhood. Heh, loser. He thought! I really just wanted to be away from him as much as possible.

I walk around, and I meet a couple nice characters, like a Shiny Scorbunny that lives across the street, or a Nickit that lives two houses across from me.  I talk to them and learn that their names are Ruby and Elliot, respectively. Nice names, and even nicer Pokémon, at least compared to Twig.

Ruby is the quiet type. She’s not one to open up easily. Elliot, on the other hand, is the complete opposite. He’s energetic, talkative, and friendly, striking up a conversation with just about anyone. I’m honestly confused, and Ruby seems able to tell. I dunno how, but she can.

She offers a small chat, to ask me about my sitch, but I say I’m fine, just confused, and annoyed because of TWIG. But once again, she can tell there’s something on my mind. How can she tell? I admit that there is A LOT on my mind. I tell her about the last two days, and about that weird dream.

I explain to her that I was a human. At those words, Ruby is surprised. “Yeaaah, suuurrrre,” she says. “Nah, sis, you were not human. I don’t believe in baby stories like those. I’m 15, almost a Raboot, so I don’t believe in such stories.” …Damn, that must be a late bloomer.

Also, this is the second time someone mentioned me being “baby”! This is out of control. I tell her to believe me, cuz I’m sure I was human. But she just dismissed me. Aaaaurgh…

Are there any PMD Rescue Team ROMhacks worth considering?

Currently playing through Explorers of Fortune and while it does introduce a lot of welcome changes, I do find myself missing a lot of the underrated features and the story from Blue Rescue Team (such as friend areas and base customization)

I do have the switch remake but I wanna dig into the nostalgia a bit more than that. New pokemon, new postgame content, that kinda stuff?

She's very excited

Need to find a more efficient way to draw grass but I'm quite pleased with how this came out

Got a bunch of other things I need to finish so it may be a couple weeks before I can post anything other than sketchbook stuff 👎

A story of how I just found an undocumented bug regarding move learning in Sky 17 years post-release.

So I'm currently in the process of 100%ing EoS, and by that I mean completing the log with maximum counters for the following entries:

>Pokémon that joined you: X (492)
Kinds of Pokémon battled: X (488)
Moves learned: X (467)
Kinds of items acquired: X (1270)

Turns out, I ended up finding a bug (an oversight?) in regard to how the game counts the distinct moves you taught to your team. I'll just tell you in detail how that happened because I'm still reeling about this (there's still a TLDR at the end if you're in a hurry):

At some point, while I was mostly done with items and mainly grinding for hard moves to get like the starter moves or some legends' signature moves, I noticed there was a discrepancy between my own checklist (something I made based on the game's info spreadsheet available here) and the game's internal counter. My first suspicion arose early on in the process when after checking every active move on every single member of my team, I went and taught Mew every single TM/HM in the game one after the other, and sat here confused after the task as my move counter increased by a measly one. I decided to leave it at that and go back to it later, for now it was more important to give myself the ability to have every single move ready to be taught instantly (looking at you, Mega Kick Hitmonlee).

The more I filled my own move list through Joy Seeds, Golden Chambers or move reminders, the more the game counter broke apart from my own counter, with a difference of almost 25 towards the end. At first, I started suspecting some weird sheananigans revolving around the egg moves; perhaps they wouldn't increase the counter because you couldn't remember them once forgotten, or something like that. I first thought I could clear this by teaching anew some of the egg moves I had to other mons through level up (Fissure to Dugtrio and Flare Blitz to Monferno to name them) but to no avail, the counter was still not budging and I remained stuck.

I got my first hint when I finally managed to hatch a Pichu having both the Thundershard (its egg exclusive item) and the egg move Volt Tackle, a move I knew I had never learned by that point as only a baby Pichu can get it, and this was my first baby Pichu. Meaning the counter was bound to increase unless egg moves were truly bugged. I figured that while I was at it, I could also check whether an egg move was truly gone once forgotten, and decided to overwrite Volt Tackle with the Grass Knot TM before saving. Since I play on emulator for convenience (and, I won't lie, to crunch down majorly on the stupid egg items grind), I could rollback thanks to savestates. Color me surprised when I save, check the counter before and after the process, and see it has increased by two.

On one hand, egg moves are not bugged, yay! On the other hand, what the actual fuck?

Somehow, the game thought I had never taught Grass Knot even once during my playthrough. But that's not possible, I did two trips to Beach Cave to teach Mew every single move, I'd even checked my item bag back then before recycling just so I wouldn't miss a move and it was full of used TMs, I was 100% confident I'd done it at some point. Not feeling defeated, I go on another pair of trips and teach every single TM/HM move, while leaving the menu to check Mew's moveset and once again confirm that I did do it. Fantastic! That's another spectacular increase of two, which puts us at exactly 20! We're getting there, slowly but surely!

Yeah right, in truth I was just done, so I decide to simply swallow the damn pill, restart my own list from scratch (not the move), and pitch a tent at Electivire's Link Shop to re-teach EVERY. SINGLE. MOVE. Of the 467 moves teachable in-game, one Pokémon at a time, mostly with final evolutions and higher levels mons who know more moves to minimize my roundtrips.

And to avoid any potential issues with TMs, I will teach the TM moves through the rare mons who learn them by leveling up; that means Kecleon with Thief, Charizard with Shadow Claw, Porygon-Z with Trick Room, and so on. The game counter, while not budging at first, increases a bit randomly, but my second hint pops up: I notice that most moves that I leave active, and increase the counter, are indeed TM moves, so there's definitely something going on with those.

After going through the whole list, no dice; the counter only reaches 460/467, but in the meantime I replay my Beach Cave trips in my mind and put it together: I did **quit the item menu more often on my 2nd TM outing, to check that the move was properly taught...**and conveniently the counter increased more in total...

>Could it be...that the game runs a check on the new moves not when the moves are taught...but only after you close the item menu?

A test was in order. I bring my underleveled Lucario, teach it the Dragon Pulse TM, leave it learned, close the menu, save...and the counter goes up!

Let's do another test. I do the same with Mew and Focus Blast, the counter increases again. I roll back, re-teach Mew Focus Blast, leave the menu open, overwrite it with Thunderbolt, its previous move, close the menu, save...and the counter stays still.

That's it. I'm 99% positive now. The game only checks for new moves after you close the item menu. If I teach a new TM, then immediately overwrite it with another one I'd already taught without closing the item menu, the game won't count the new move as learned. Finally, the light is near!

Pulling out all the TMs and HMs in alphabetical order, I re-do a teaching spray while saving between every single move, and the increase is way steadier, especially regarding moves only available through TMs like Stealth Rock, Defog, Rock Climb. 17 moves are thus newly registered by the game as taught, leaving only three moves left to teach.

When I reached Trick Room again, the counter increased. But that's not right. I already taught Porygon-Z Trick Room earlier through Electivire's Link Shop. I mean, sure, I replaced it immediately because it's not that good of a move and I had more doubts about the game not counting the line's signature moves, but-

Wait a minute. TMs...TM moves... level up...
Electivire...The menu...Replaced immediately...The Link Shop's menu...

TWO MENUS...!

THERE ARE TWO MENUS...! THIS IS NOT OVER YET...

This would mean that not just TM moves, but also classic level-up moves are affected when remembered through the Link Shop. I do a quick test with Jynx's signature move, Lovely Kiss, a move I already knew the game counter had not registered yet, and sure enough the game counter doesn't increase when I immediately overwrite it with something else. Meaning the game doesn't only wait for the item menu to close before checking new moves, but Electivire's Link Shop menu as well.

Only the last hurdle remains. I erase my own list one last time (Oof), remove every currently active move from it, and by teaching the remaining ones, I finally narrow down the two culprits, Follow Me which I overwrote immediately, and most surprisingly Dragon Rush, which I realize I'd discarded early on for something with a bit more accuracy. At last, the counter is maxxed, and my sanity is preserved.

But surely that weird behavior would've been documented before, wouldn't it? I can't be the only one who thought about maxxing the moves counter, in fact I hadn't even thought about it until someone else mentioned it.

Yet no matter the website, whether it's Bulbapedia, GameFaqs, MDFW, and even Japanese aggregating websites with detailed info, nobody mentions such a thing. The only referenced move-related bug I can find is about copying a mon's moveset onto another one regardless of species, meaning this might be a completely undiscovered bug, 17 years after release.

Given that I'm playing the EU version, which is usually the one with most bug fixes courtesy of releasing after the others, I wouldn't be surprised if this bug was also present in JP and NA versions of Sky, and possibly also in Time and Darkness. (Maybe even the OG Rescue Team?? [EDIT: According to comments, apparently yes]) At the very least I know that, regarding items and especially exclusive items, the Swap Shop is spared from this bug, since I could max my item counter despite getting the type gems and immediately trading them for their respective type globes. I have not checked whether the Kecleon Shop or Swalot's Secret Bazaar shop are spared of this (not to mention that it would be hard now that I already got every single item) but I wouldn't be surprised if, like the Swap Shop, they were fine.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TL;DR: Because the game has a weird way of updating the log's move counter, you need to close the Main Menu or Link Shop Menu every time between teaching new moves; if you overwrite the move immediately without closing the menu, the log's counter won't update. So to any crazy players who would want to have proof in your adventure log that yes, you've learned every single move in the game (I know you guys exist, YOU gave me the idea!), be extra careful to not teach and overwrite moves in quick succession, you'll have bad surprises.

EDIT: After doing a few more tests, turns out I was partly wrong. Simply closing the menu before overwriting the new move will not be enough for the counter to update. You need to either save the game, or change screens through a fade-to-black, for example by leaving the Crossroads to either go to Wigglytuff's Guild or Treasure Town's shops. Funnily enough the game seems to treat calling Chimecho as changing locations, as the counter updated despite me not leaving the Crossroads altogether.

The meta narrative of GtI's fourth wall break.

https://preview.redd.it/1414k1yug7kh1.png?width=905&format=png&auto=webp&s=f645e9cc3db2ef96ad4ec6dc4e03670633bbd0d6

Beware, block of text ahead:

This is something that I've been thinking about and that I've seen mentionned only by one other person in the comment of AurumAlex's awesome video about GtI story.

As you probably know Hydreigon breaks the fourth wall, this is because Hydreigon is the funniest character, however most pass it off and do not think about the details of it, which is fair because the few that actually want to talk about GtI have more important themes to abord.

So this post is to talk about it!

Normally, you wouldn't pay much mind to who the human who get sent is, in fact, the little we got said is in Rescue Team that trainer is an existent term and therefore, the human is probably from the pokémon games world. This makes sense, this is why they know pokémon and this means they are soemone.

However, what I want to say is that, GtI, YOU are the human. YOU are going in the pokémon world, when you turn on your console and start the game, you become the pokémon, this why you're human, this is why it's you.

And this is why you leave, after finishing the story, the game is over, you've won, so you must say goodbye to tose characters, to this story, it is finished.

However, by coming back to the game, you showed that you are still here and trying to play the game, which is why Hydreigon notices it, and is able to break the fourth wall by looking at the screen. You cared enough to see what happens after the story end, and so you are given the chance to come back after some time and doing World Core. By completing this hard dungeon alone, you show your will to continue the game and go back to it.

At the end, Hydreigon but aslo your partner wish for you to come back when you want. It is a play on how you can turn off the game and comes back later. When you play the game and get immersed in it, you become the pokémon, and when you're done you can stop and go back to our human world.

But, you can also refuse to go back in the world. By saying you don't wanna come back, you essentially say you don't wanna engage with the rest of the game, so you leave once again, closing the game. And this is now the real end of the story, you don't wanna engage anymore and so you quit and don't play again.

You can still, however, get back after that choice, as if to mean that you changed your mind, and now want to actually engage with the game once again. So the game makes you go back as if you just lost the dungeon and you need to go back to it, prove again that you care enough to go back to it, and this time accept to continue to be in their world.

Also, the first line "you" say when Hydreigon explains they felt your presence is "What?", because, as the player, you are surprised Hydreigon was able to break the fourth wall.

Similarly, when you start the game, you are shown a generic silhouette describes as yours, but then it shifts to becme one of the pokémon you choose, because you are the one in front of the screen casting the shadow.

And one of GtI's gimmick was the possibility to generate a magnagate dungeons with the camera of your 3Ds, the music that plays when you pick the game mode is "Welcome to the world of Pokémon", the same that plays when you first dives into the game. After that you search a round object and it creates a dungeon, at this moment, you become a totally different pokémon with a different partner, because you entered the world again, but differently, with the magnagate option. The magnagate becomes its own link between human and pokémon world when you use the camera.

The last important instance is Hydreigon's appearance in Super. You can run into them in Serene Village and they will say that they recognize you. Referencing the fact that this is a follow-up and you are the same player, the same human, that continues to watch the story unfold through another game this time. However, the player does not remember them, because the player does not necessarly have the knowledge of the past game.

Some smaller consequences much less certain that I wanna bring up. So what is Hydreigon? An representation of the author? Is that why they are from the moral side of the player? Honestly, most likely nothing important, I mean, we can create a portal ourselves with anything that is round... And so, there was other humans brought in this world, but who got back to their world because of Kyurem and Munna's gang, what do they mean? I dunno, maybe they represent other players who gave up, but maybe nothing?

Some people might say this is weird and too out of touch with the rest of the series, but I find it pretty compelling and a good commentary on games and players wanting to engage with them, especially one with an history of controversy and people being unhappy about it such as GtI.

Most fun for Zero Isle South

Playing Explorers of Sky after being away for a while...

Decided to try my hand at the Zero Isle South - the one that resets you...and played as Smoochum (the best for surviving)...got as far as level 20 before I gave up...

Now I want to do it & have a bit of fun...I'm thinking about doing it as a Legendary (if I can)...who does the community think would be the most enjoyable pokemon to do this as?

What are some fun combos you have found?

It’s a known fact these games have some very unique mechanics that can make some unexpected things very very powerful. The last few days I’ve been compiling a list, and here’s some of what I came up with.

Shedinja: Immune to 12 / 17 types, and gets 3 more immunities with Species items, making the only moves that can damage it Fire, or Dark. Can link Mind Reader + Silver Wind (100% accurate room clear), Shadow Ball for los. Last slot could be Scratch, Leech Life, Bug Bite, Fury Swipes, depending on your needs. Shedinja is also a ghost type, giving it all terrain mobility. Low stats, especially health, so you may need to funnel him vitamins for quite a while.

Shaymin-S: Gains a permanant +1 speed boost, and a second +1 with a Species item. Equip a weather band and you’ll have a pokemon that can simply run to the stairs without ever engaging with anything. I don’t think Shaymin has a true room clear, but with +3 speed and Seed Flare, you should be able to handle a monster house, if not walk away from it.

Ledian: Has the same gimmick as Shaymin S. Two species items and a weather band will give it a permanent +3 speed tier. Silver Wind for a room clear, Psybeam for range, pick your other moves.

Machamp: +1 Speed with a species item. No Guard + Earthquake makes a 100% accurate room clear, with high damage to boot. I like Karate Chop for a spammable move, focus blast for range, ice punch for coverage.

Rayquaza: +1 attacks and +1 speed in clear if you use species items, clear weather being guaranteed by Rayquaza at all times (meaning you don’t need to take a weather band). He’s a legendary so it goes without saying.

Palkia: Obviously the best pokemon in the game. But the combination of his Air Blade, plus a Space Globe, sounds like a juicy amount of damage, and I’m definitely going to try this.
