NHL PUCK Microchip
I'm genuinely confused about why the NHL hasn't implemented a reliable sensor system inside the puck to help determine whether it completely crossed the goal line.
It's 2026. Technology has advanced so much, yet we still have controversial goal calls where camera angles can't conclusively show whether the entire puck crossed the line.
Why not combine a microchip inside the puck with goal-line sensors and video review?
I'm not saying a microchip alone would magically solve every problem. The system would need to be tested for accuracy, reliability, and interference. But if the technology can reliably determine the puck's position relative to the goal line, why wouldn't the NHL want to use it?
Think about the stakes. One questionable goal can decide a playoff game, eliminate a team, or potentially change the outcome of an entire series.
The NHL is a multibillion-dollar professional sports league. Surely investing in better goal-line technology should be a priority.
