NIT Silchar Seniors: ECE vs EIE?
I’m currently evaluating my options and will likely be choosing between ECE and EIE at NIT Silchar.
I would really appreciate some honest insights, advice, or reality checks from anyone currently studying there or recent alumni. I’ve broken my main doubts down into a few specific questions:
- Placement Realities & Coding: What did the actual placement statistics look like for the latest batch in both ECE and EIE? Do most tech companies allow EIE students to sit for interviews alongside CSE/ECE? Also, is coding absolutely compulsory to get a decent package, or do solid core electronics/instrumentation companies recruit heavily on campus?
- The "Remote Location" Factor: Silchar is geographically quite isolated. What are the practical, day-to-day consequences of this during the 4-year B.Tech journey? (e.g., travel hassle, food/climate adjustments, access to external resources).
- Corporate Outreach: Does the distance/location actively discourage major tier-1 tech or core companies from visiting the campus physically for placements and internships? Are online/virtual hiring processes the norm here because of the location?
- ECE vs. EIE Decision: If you were back in my shoes, which one would you choose and why? Is the academic workload in EIE slightly lighter than the notoriously hectic ECE curriculum, or are they equally grueling?
- Campus Culture & Facilities: Any other insider info you can provide regarding the campus culture, coding environment, labs, or professor mentality would be incredibly helpful!

Hey everyone
Most of us want to live inside campus in hostels like students of other NITs and IITs do. We also worked hard like them, but still, we are being deprived of basic infrastructure in our college.
Since we don't have a formal student union to channel these requests, the safest and most constructive way to move forward is through our CRs. They already have a good, professional equation with the professors and the administration.
Instead of making a big fuss or complaining individually, maybe we can request the CRs from different branches to bring up these basic points in front of college authorities.
The best place to bring this to the CRs' attention is the newly made WhatsApp group for Counselling Support.
Since that group is already very active and managed by the CRs it’s the perfect spot to discuss this calmly and get their input on how to present it to the faculty.
I am leaving the link to the Counselling Support group right here so everyone can join and keep the discussion constructive:

If you think this is a reasonable way to handle it, please share this post with your batchmates. It’s just about having a calm, professional dialogue to make our campus a bit better for everyone.
BASED ON COLLEGE LIFE,PLACEMENTS AND OPPORTUNITIES
reddit.comBased on CLG LIFE/PLACEMENTS/COMMUNITY
Please give reasons as well. And any other options, cant put more in the poll, Calicut and rourkela also possible.
(By community i mean peer group and working culture, I heard places like DSU arent worth it because it has a lot of low rankers who use quotas)
Need some advice
Hi seniors,
I Got 99.53 percentile in JEE Mains and I believe ive bombed advanced. My stream of Interest is Mechanical and I was wondering, according to all of you, should I pursue Mechanical at a top NIT like Trichy or Surathkal or should I pursue it at BITs Pilani?
Which are better institutes for mechanical engineering?
Thanks
NSUT CSE VS MNNIT ALLAHABAD CSE
Please tell...
HS: DELHI
Best option considering all aspects
Plz help me choose a option from the above
Unlivable conditions in NITK hostels 😭😭🙏🏼
there was already news since last year that NITK water is contaminated by animal fecal matter.
We didn't notice much during the start of the year but now the whole situation is much much worse 😭.
more than a hundred people got food poisoning in a single day and the water in the taps doesn't even look like clean water anymore.
water coolers are leaking, water is flowing down from first floor to ground floor. there's no proper drinking water in the hostels.
if an institute of national importance cannot even give proper accommodation and living conditions to its students what's even the point in calling it a premier institute.
What would be the option if my priorities are good placements?
If you could suggest any college other than these 3, then that too would be great???
Regarding college options
Want 25 lpa + placements and good clg life and good infrastructure
