The Newcastle Knights and its consequences have been a disaster for the rugby league. They have greatly increased the salary of those who play in the ‘halves’ but they have destabilised salary caps, have made bench utilities redundant, have subjected human beings to indignities and have inflicted severe damage to the footy world. The continued increase of the salary cap will worsen the situation. It will certainly subject bottom half teams to greater indignities and inflict overspending on mediocre players. It will probably lead to West Tigers paying Adam Doueihi $1.5 Million a season and psychological suffering and may even lead to increased salary cap hardship in ‘contending’ teams.
