Qs regarding the MBBS programme

Hi everyone,

I'm currently planning to join the MBBS programme at NuMed this September, and I was wondering whether the 2+3 MBBS pathway will also be available to incoming Year 1 students. The website only mentions that it's available to "current" students, so I wasn't sure if it would apply to new entrants as well.

I also wanted to ask whether completing the 2+3 pathway would mean that we'd be considered UK graduates for UKFP prioritisation.

I've emailed the university a few times to ask about both of these questions, but unfortunately I haven't received a response yet. If anyone has any information or advice, I'd really appreciate it!

Also, if anyone else is planning to start the MBBS programme this September, feel free to reach out. I'd love to get in touch!!!

2+3 MBBS pathway?

Hi, Im considering NUMed this fall and recently saw the new 2+3 MBBS pathway.

Does anyone know how competitive the transfer process is, whether places are limited, and whether graduates would be considered UK graduates for UKFP prioritization?

Any information would be appreciated. Thanks!

Local housemanship

Hi guys

I just wanted to know if there is any chance of doing housemanship in Malaysia for international students. (With the latest update in Sarawak)

I’m well aware of the restrictions for International students, especially clarified on 8 may 2026 :

His office, however, later clarified with CodeBlue that international NUMed

graduates won't be able to do their housemanship here, unless they are a spouse of a Malaysian citizen or have permanent residence in Malaysia, due to citizenship restrictions for provisional registration from the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) under the Medical Act 1971.

But on 14 May 2026 :

Article:

Sarawak seeks MMC nod to recruit overseas-trained doctors, foreign graduates to fill healthcare gaps

He said overseas-trained Malaysian doctors who wished to return often faced the obstacle of needing a pass in SPM Bahasa Melayu and History to serve in public hospitals.

"We also notice that international medical students who graduate in Malaysia are generally not allowed to do housemanship in Malaysia, according to MMC regulations.

"We are now proposing to MMC to delegate to us the authority to recruit this group of talents to come to Sarawak to serve or do their housemanship,"

My questions are

  1. How likely will the proposal be accepted, and when could the latest verdict be announced. (Will it be a real possibility since Sarawak has its own medical council (SMC) in East Malaysia

  2. If it did open up , will international students be required to do SPM and the history requirements for HO in Malaysia.

Thank you
