Realistic training for YVR

Is it possible to juggle a second job while doing training at YVR?

I want to know what the schedule looks like and the course start to finish for area controllers.
I currently have a good job with decent seniority but the ATC would be an improvement, I’m not ready to put all my eggs in one basket when the attraction rate for training is so low. Looking for information and advice if anyone’s done it before. Current job is shift work round the clock so could potentially make it work if its 8 hours days at YVR thanks for any help.

Short Bilingual Interview (Post-Feast) - MTL FIR

I have a 10-15 min bilingual interview post-feast (assuming I pass). They said it would be short and used as a pre-assessment. That said, I'm unsure if they're just pre-assessing my french, or if it's a general screening tool for future interviews.

Any guidance on preparation is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

EUROCONTROL preparation for FEAST

Hi guys, I’m currently preparing for my upcoming FEAST test with the EUROCONTROL site. Does anyone know if those exercises really reflect your skills? I found them rather easy and I get 95%+ on almost every exercise. I heard the actual FEAST test is much more difficult so I don’t want to be overconfident.

Standby Offer

IFR YEG March 2027. I know it’s unlikely to convert until the following class, but nonetheless feels good to have made it.

It’s been a really neat experience. Every other job I’ve applied for it’s this sort of “sell yourself” interview/resume. Here you know they think you’ve got it based on (mostly, anyways) objective criteria.

Still more hoops to go. Hopefully I can find a CAME that can certify by then.

Questions about the Air Traffic Controller position

I was wondering if any of you could help me out a little. I'm looking at passing the Feast Test this upcoming Monday for the Air Traffic Controller position at the YUL airport Sheraton hotel. Before getting into the whole process, I wanted to know a few things.

  1. I saw they screen for drugs and alcohol; I do have fatty liver but it's not like I'll add whiskey to my coffee in the morning to head to work lol. How strict are they on those measures? (I do get the whole lives are at risk scenario, I'll just keep the drinks for my weekends, I also don't use drugs)

  2. I'm currently rebuilding my credit due to a past separation with my ex-fiancée; do they do a credit check during the application process?

  3. I'm really quick with numbers and all, but realistically what would you think (and I just want a pure speculative opinion) are my odds of passing the Feast test if I'm scoring in the high 70's on average at the moment?

  4. What are the realistic salary expectations for someone starting as an Air Traffic Controller?

Any info is appreciated :) Thanks/Merci/Gracias

Hearing loss as an ATC

I had my audiogram for the medical this week, and the doctor pointed out that I am right on the edge of what is considered normal hearing in a limited section of the frequency range. 5 more decibels, and I am in the "mild hearing loss" area, apparently. Clearly, I need a bike helmet with more padding since the crotch rocket seems to be eating away at my hearing.

How is mild hearing loss treated in ATC/Nav? Are controllers allowed some leeway/hearing aids/etc?

On a side note, now I have an excuse to forget/ignore what my girlfriend says :)

DAATS

Out of curiosity, any update on the DAATS program? Are they posting ab initios to Kingston and/or Hamilton specifically to work the digital towers? Is it just transfers for now? Which towers are they taking over and whats happening to those controllers currently posted to those towers? Or will DAATS only be used for specific shifts (overnights, evenings, etc.)?

Thank you!

Can I apply to the FSS role?

I recently went through the process of an ATC application for the Winnipeg region. I passed my FEASTS but failed the in person evaluation (Interview). There is a FSS opening in British Columbia ( JR-7688) open and I want to apply.

I cannot apply for ATC roles for the next 3 years, but can I apply for this FSS role right now? Also, will I need to give FEAST again?

Job posting clarification

Hey i was just wondering if anyone knew what this posting is? I got a job alert notification last night and when I checked in the morning this is all there was to it. It doesn’t show up on the navcanada website either. Did anyone else get this notification?
