How does call work within your team?

At my old company, our work day was specified 7-6 so after 6, you could ask for relief if the call person was available. At my current company, there is no specified workday hours, so someone not on call may be assigned a 3pm case that goes super late. Last week I had a 11am case, scheduled for 5 hours go until 230am. Suddenly our call person is only for add ons, which is very nice when you are on call but very rough when it’s your lucky day to work 16 hours.

Stool sitting

Has anyone figured out how to make a stool comfortable? It kills my upper and lower back, sitting on a stool for a long time. I got up and stretch and do forward and back bends but it’s really starting to bother me. I’ve tried a few different things to make it more comfortable but can’t seem to. Is it crazy to ask to bring a normal chair in if one is available? Seems crazier that our only option is sitting on a stool.

Cadwell Guardian

Anybody know anything about the Cadwell Guardian?

I know they’ll have a demo May 15 - 17 but was just wondering if anyone knew anything else about it. What’s the MSRP? Are cables or the equipment more durable compared to the Pro (I know the IONM Max can handle a lil bit more abuse).

I love the idea that the extension pod can detach from the cable. I’ve always complained about this when getting pre-flip baselines or when the patient needs to be moved back to the pre-op bed quickly (anesthesia related).

Just curious if anyone knows anything else. I know they’ve been working on this for a while. I believe it’s supposed to be an upgrade from the Pro but not as good as the IOM Max.

Opportunity to train in IONM!

NeuroIOM has partnered with the University of Connecticut to offer a structured training pathway that combines academic coursework with real-world clinical experience! First cohort starts June 15th.

How It Works

Students complete their didactic training remotely through UConn's accredited IONM program, then join the NeuroIOM team in Phoenix, Arizona, for hands-on skills and OR training, working alongside experienced neuromonitoring professionals in live surgical cases.

What You'll Gain

  • Hands-on OR experience with a working clinical team
  • Mentorship from credentialed IONM professionals
  • Exposure to a range of surgical specialties and monitoring modalities
  • A strong foundation for CNIM certification and career entry

Are nails allowed in this field?

I have always enjoyed having short length, gel-x nails and was wondering if they are allowed. I’m in the interview stage and would rather ask reddit about this than my interviewers.

Supply chain- IOM shortages

It seems that we are heading for supply shortages due to the supply chain issues presented by the closed Straight of Hormuz and Iran war. There is an emerging shortage on syringes and that falls into EMG needles as well. There is a shortage on the PTFE coating for EMG needles. There is shortage of the rubber coating for the disposable wires.

I believe this combined with the fact that IDR awards are not being paid will change neumonitoring forever. Most likely most cases won’t be able to be monitored but perhaps reduced to more needed cases like XLIFs
