Behavioral Neuroscience grad interested in IONM/CNIM. I'd love advice on a training path!

Hi everyone! I've been researching IONM a ton over the last few months and I've grown to be super interested in the field.

I'm finishing my B.S. in Behavioral Neuroscience and I have one class left before graduation. I live in Florida. I've been looking for education programs and saw UConn has a M.S. in Surgical Neurophysiology. I am a veteran with VR&E and the GI bill benefits that will make it easier to go the school route vs. the employer training route.

I just have a few questions for anyone who has gone either route!

Does a behavioral neuroscience background seem like a good preparation for IONM?

Would you recommend a graduate program like UConn over an employer training program if tuition isn’t the deciding factor?

Is there anything that you wish you had known before entering the field?

I love the brain and fell in LOVE with neuroscience since my first class. I love neuropharmacology and learning in general. I'm like so psyched because in the molecular and cellular neuroscience class we get to hold an actual human brain!!! AAAH!! I am starting kind of on the older side (29) if you guys think that will have any of an impact on my decision.

Thank you so much to anyone who has advice and/or answers!! 🥰

For those who've switched to SpecialtyCare: are they better, are you happier?

Title says it all. Curious how the transition has gone for people who've gone to SpecialtyCare from another company.

Starting EEG school at 52

Starting EEG school hopefully in the spring 2027. Very nervous about starting at this point and making sure that I can keep the pace with school and beyond. Any advice is much welcome!

RLN & LAR monitoring

I haven’t monitored these on my cervical cases in over two years but I just told a surgeon about it and he seems interested. Could someone remind me how to use a jumper with the ETT?

Specialtycare trap agreement

Hey all, I heard a rumor going around that specialtycare was no longer bothering with going after people for leaving early from their training contract? Has anyone else heard anything about this? I know a lawsuit was in the works but havent heard anything about it recently.

IONM Trainee Timeline

So, I'm in the North Texas area and have been really trying to land a role in an IONM Trainee program. Based on my experience with that journey so far, I wanted to see if anybody had more insight into the application process? I interviewed this week with US Neuro after applying 1 month ago, and they stated they will send out second interviews/offers in 3-4 weeks. I've applied to Axis about almost 2 months ago too and I'm still waiting on the interviews for that (they stated I'm still in consideration). I just wanted to know if anybody is having to wait quite a bit of time to break into this field?

Also, MPower did reach out to me too, but their next cohort is in a different state, and I am not able to relocate at this time.

Trainee or CNIM Positions Available at Satellite Medical, in the San Francisco Bay Area! #Jobposting

Ideally looking for a local candidate(s) or someone planning to live in the area long term. We have facilities directly in San Francisco and the surrounding North, South, or East Bays. We also have a Fresno team if anyone was interested in this area. Salary ranges from $90,000 to $130,000 plus benefits. 3 weeks PTO that increase with length of time with Satellite, along with a week of sick time annually. Case split is 65% Spine, 20% Brain, 10% Vascular and 5% ENT/Maxillofacial/Ortho Non-Spine. We will train for more complex cases, no need to be trained in everything. We also try to match our employees with surgeon when possible. The typical week when we are fully staffed is 3 days of 1 to 3 cases per day (1 long case or 2-3 short cases) and a standby day. The standby person will cover potential add-ons or relieve a person who has had a long day or give a break for food/appointments. Being honest here, there are times of the year where we get slammed and we will work the entire week, but our team tries to help each other out. We also hire whenever we see the case volume increases for the group so we can stay with the typical week I mentioned.

CNIMs applying and choosing to live in San Francisco, North Bay (Marin) , or South Bay (San Jose) would most likely cover facilities in those respective areas, the potential candidate would occasionally be requested to cover cases outside their designated area if on standby or if people use sick time or PTO.

Trainee applicants are required to have their bachelors, ideally in a science or health care related degree. We also prioritize previous health care experience such as EMT, Surgical Tech, etc. The experience is not a hard requirement we just prefer it from previous experience. The trainee would be required to travel more because they will be paired and taught by our senior employees.

Happy to answer any questions and feel free to send a DM!

List of companies by region?

Hello Everyone!

I wanted to try to start a conversation about the different companies in different regions in the US, maybe this can help someone get a job where they live! I know I wish I had a list of different companies to choose from when I was first in the field.

I'll kick things off: in the Northeast we have Accurate, MPower, United Medical Monitoring, Specialty Care, Elite Monitoring, Neuro Alert, NuVasive, Neuro Monitoring Associates and Assure.

What is your region in the US and what companies are most prominent there?

Thank you!!
