Pride Politics

I love New west Pride and had fun yesterday. During the opening the president made some strong comments about who was there and who wasn't. The Mayor and Peter Julian made speeches, Jennifer Whiteside was on stage, and there was an NDP booth and a Community First booth. Who was not there: Steve Kooner or anyone from the Conservatives (not surprising), Jake Sawatzky or anyone from the Liberals (very surprising) and the NWP (a little surprising?). Also there were people from Pride who are running for council but they weren't there in any obvious way? Is there is something unsaid going on?

How much will this rebrand cost?

They’re literally throwing out every idea under the sun and hoping something will stick. So much for core services lol. Rebranding a part of the city that everyone is already happy to call Downtown. Their instagram video discussing this idea is truly something. I hate to be a negative Nancy but come on. The city just made and installed new Downtown New Westminster maps, why rebrand a neighborhood? Sure revitalizing a neighborhood is a commendable goal, but that’s one of the weirdest election campaign videos I’ve seen.

How is the Metro Vancouver Accountability Charter initiative funded?

I am trying to learn more about the Metro Vancouver Accountability Charter brought forward by NWP Fontaine. The bottom of the website caught my eye. How much of the New Westminster Progressives’ political fundraising is being used to finance the Metro Vancouver Accountability Charter, if any? The Charter is a region-wide initiative promoted to influence the 2026 municipal election. Do the NWP owe more transparency around this? It seems a lot of effort is going into this. What outcomes can we expect if Fontaine is elected? Will he have time to focus on New Westminster given is regional concerns? Thoughts?
