Why did the Lusitania never break the Mauretania's record?

Was it because of the cavitation problem that they never tried to break the record?

The RMS Empress of Ireland: Canada’s Titanic

This incredible rendering by Oceanliner Designs captures the eerie calm just before disaster. The RMS Empress of Ireland, a proud ocean liner, sank in the Saint Lawrence River after colliding with the SS Storstad, with the loss of over a thousand lives. It is a tragedy often overlooked, yet it was one of the largest peacetime maritime disasters in history, occurring just over two years after the sinking of the Titanic. This picture shows the ship moments before the collision, a powerful reminder of how quickly tragedy can strike. I've always found this particular story to be so sad and compelling. The speed at which it all happened is horrifying.

Not quite an ocean liner… but an ocean liner themed cruise ship

This is the Dream today in Rotterdam. If you can ignore the slide, I think the older DCL ships don’t look half bad. I think this is a case of “hyperreality” as Baudrillard would describe it… this ship is designed to look like the depiction of ocean liners in media. The symbolic depiction of the real thing has become the actual real thing (sort of), blurring the distinction between the two. Or something.

Also, I love Rotterdam’s cruise terminal… it’s so well integrated with the city.
