I vaguely recall a similar, if not the same, film preceeding a few shows, intermixed with the Sluggo, Vatos and another member's heads in a graveyard to intro a song before the show started. Anyone else remember that? You can even hear some of the musical influences in their early song writing throughout!
So, I was cruisin' over at Spotify just listening to music until I saw this on the homepage. Seems like the band just released an album. Sadly, the songs aren't new, but other songs from previous albums. Maybe it was released for the Halloween season?
Specifically, it reminded me of Danny's So-Lo album cover, especially in the color scheme and zigzag/jagged lines. Definitely made me do a double take at the laundromat when I first saw it! 😆 (Also, I just now noticed it has a "No AI" marker in the corner. Good on them).
I am always on the hunt for Boingo vinyl. I got this when browsing at a little cute hidden away shop. 💗
Hello. I’ve wondered if anyone wants to share some conversation on boingo and exchange some musical interests. I have some pretty recommendations ready to be given to someone else.
I start with Perfect system! It is just me or this song is not actually about politics? For me, this song is about cultural sanitization and how everyone seems to follow a need to be stardardized to a level of being all the same every time. The non-stop search for feeling what everyone feels, looking how everyone looks, and at the same time, rejection on all spontaneous and different things. Nobody needs critical thinking, no one cares about true love, because we are all brothers in a perfect world. Eating our protein enhanced whatevers while watching fucking stranger things recomended by a legalized steeaming service’s algorithm
So this has been on my mind for several months now, and since joining the community, I thought I'd ask your guys' opinion.
Last spring I was reminded that the Phantom Reviewer, an "older," YouTuber known for his focus on Phantom of the Opera media, once made a comparison of the song "The Beauty Underneath," from Love Never Dies (ALW's infamous POTO sequel) to "Insanity," by Oingo Boingo. A comparison that pre-teen me originally didn't register at the time and just nodded along to in agreement, but now 20's me is all like, "Oh my God, no freaking way!" (Especially since, within the same video, he'd already compared "Beneath a Moonless Sky," to "Sally's Song). It also made me smile, proving PR has good music taste.
Specifically, he compared the lines: "Like a wave we cannot see, watching over you and me," from Insanity to "When you stare behind the night, can you glimpse its primal might?" from TBU. Either way though, one thing that IS for certain for me is that TBU absolutely resembles the vibe and structure as "Mike Teavee," from Charlie & the Chocolate Factory (2005), once directly referred to as "the Oingo Boingo Reunion Tour," song by YT reviewer Bobsheaux. And it was my dancing to that song as a kid that paved the way to me adoring TBU in my teens...to the point I mixed them into an awesome YT mash-up last month. 😆😉
I’ve had multiple interactions on here and on other places where people seem to specially dislike their last album, Boingo. I really love this one, so I don’t get why most people seem to hate on it so much. The sound is different, yes, but every single album from them seems different from each other, so I don’t get why no one likes it. For me, it is up there with good for your soul

I posted a few pictures from a 1979 Oingo Boingo show a while back and it seemed like some people were interested. I’ve been doing some digging and I wanted to share some important info.
So the performance was recorded for an HBO show called “On Location”, and 2 of the songs—California Girls and Louise—were featured in a special that was hosted by George Segal. This special aired on January 18, 1980, although the performance was actually from August 28, 1979.
The band’s setlist was much longer than the final product would indicate, however, and several extremely rare songs, such as Nuclear Babies, Wolverine, and I’m Afraid, were likely played. The entire performance was recorded, but it never aired on television.
This brings us to the big question: where is the footage now? Because the rest of the show never officially aired, there’s only a handful of possibilities. I’ve reached out to a few people that worked on the On Location program but haven’t received any responses yet. My best guess is that it’s sitting in an old vault somewhere, archived away. It seems unlikely that even the most obsessive of collectors would have this in their possession, so that leads us back to HBO and the people affiliated.
1979 was arguably the most important year in Oingo Boingo’s history, as they transitioned from the Mystic Knights theater troupe into the 8-piece rock band that we all know and love. This lost show is incredibly important, as it captures this exciting transitional period and features several rare unreleased songs. Joe Berland was also still in the band at this point, as Richard Gibbs hadn’t joined yet.
Can’t stand the idea of this show being lost. Let’s work together to track it down!
