1 Frame Flash of all-black within Preview

Weird, with a workaround already.

Reopened a project after some time and a frame of the recording flickered to black screen, tried to cull around it and shift the clips back together, same millisecond frame flashes a black screen, try closing and reopening project, same frame all-black.

Current workaround: Shift clip to a different track for the burnt-in frame and it plays through without the flicker to black.

Did not attempt to export with the flickering frame in place. Unsure what the root cause is/was. Speculating about where the preview is held in memory/on disk, but I also didn't fully reboot my PC.

Can you posterize in openshot?

I'm looking for a vid editor for linux that has a "posterize" effect limiting color values all the way to 9 colors, but the closest I've seen was the effect "color mapping".

I'm not able to install openshot rn, I just want to check if both effects are the same.

Horrible

i do not use editing software as much as the rest

but when i do, i tend to know how things work and where things should be

Openshot is by far the most buggiest downright horrible video editing software i have ever seen, and my only question is how, how in gods green earth did you create a video editor so incredibly bad, are you evil? do you wish for people to suffer? by all means you succeeded.

Again, i rarely use editing software, but when i do, i want it to work, and when it doesnt i disgard it, delete it and move on.

To those who use it as their main software i applaud you, to those suffering yet still using, delete it, this is complete and utter garbage.

My 3.5 hour video rendering slows at 81%

I have never edited a video this long. It probably has 300+ clips, but I kept transitions at a minimum and I only inserted text at the very beginning and about 1/3 in. But I can't get this damn video to render. The speed grinds to a halt once it hits 81%

I have confirmed that it has 754,000 frames. The footage was originally shot in 1080p and at 60 fps. I matched the project by resolution and frame rate.

I have an Intel core i7 12th gen and 16 gigs of ram. I can render at 44 fps. Even when it slows down it is rendering at over 40fps. I have resetted cache and set cache limit from 4000 to 6000 megs, then I switched to 12,000 megs. I use without hardware acceleration at first and I was capped at 33 fps and with hardware acceleration I am using qsv which brought the estimated time down from 7.5 hours to 5 hours. I have confirmed that the last frame is at 754,000.

This is my 3rd attempt and everytime it hits 81% even though it shows that it is rendering at 44fps, the status bar is only going up by .0001% every second! That means it will take over 2 days once it reaches 81%!!

What is going on here? I can't reduce the quality because it is my inlaws family vacation at Yosemite so I don't want to compromise on quality.

Thank you for any help. I want this work, I spent like 12 hours editing this and I can't split it into videos, or can I?

This update is worst than the last one.

Fixing the bugs of the previous version, is OK when you release a new patch, but change the behavior of all tools and things in the program when you are using it to make it longer, to do the same things but using more clicks, is just stupid.
By the way, the bug of the Fade in/out is still happening, and its being years of that problem.

Right now, when you want to play/pause while editing the size of a video, the timeline yellow vertical thing CHANGES to that point, so it makes it pre-load again and again if you want to adjust a lot of times and check if its ok. Before it was just a few clicks and keyboard keys, right now is a fucking nightmare, why the hell you are not fixing bugs, and instead you destroy the behavior of the program and the workflow of the users who are using the program daily 8-10 hours? Is just nonsense.

And right now, when you click on "play" to preview the video, if you want to press left or right "<-" "->" to adjust exactly which frame you want to check, it doesnt work, because pressing left for example, makes the "cursor" goes to the files you attached and you are working, that never happends before.

And when you add new videos, or files to the program, is not in order, in the past versión (and always), adding new files, will put them at the end, so you know which file is the last one you added, but right now is like "hey, you want to use the program? Good luck with that, try another program, but hey, remember to donate!"

Yes, wait for donations.

Title Card Background

What is up with OpenShot’s titles? Adding titles was easy, but in the latest edition, it has a checkerboard default which I can’t change. Sorry if this has been addressed. Haven’t used OS in a while, so this has been a surprise.

Any suggestions?

Solution for audio crackling

Hey everyone! I use OpenShot to edit ASMR videos that I make and upload to YouTube. I record the video on either my phone or my camera, and i record audio separately with a Tascam dr05x.

I use OpenShot to overlay the recorded audio over the separately recorded video. I was frequently getting that crackling static over certain parts of my audio while editing. I already tried a ton of other advice i found on this subreddit, but none of it worked quite right. So, I thought I'd provide my solution for anybody else having this problem when overlaying audio to a video.

Once I get the audio track lined up with the video track, I would normally set the video's volume to 0 so you can only hear my audio track. This seems to be there the problem was. Once I actually disabled the audio on the video track (something I just now learned I could do), instead of setting it to 0, it fixed my crackling problems.

How to disable video audio

  1. Right click your video track
  2. Click "Properties"
  3. Find "Enable Audio" and set it to "Off"

I'm assuming this is because of clashing bitrates or something between my video and audio track, but if you're in a similar situation to me, it's a lot easier to just disable your video audio rather than separate it and adjust the bitrate.

TLDR: Audio crackling when overlaying audio to a video. Already tried fixing it through adjusting bitrates and sample rate. Instead of setting video volume to 0, fully disable the video audio instead.

App window oversized for laptop screen

After updating to 3.5.1 the OpenShot app does not match my laptop screen size/resolution and does not fit on the screen. I have tried changing the Windows display settings as advised by the OE bot and have reinstalled a couple of times but the problem persists. using latest version windows 11. all other apps behave normally. OE was working without any problem before the update.

cannot export

Whenever I try to export a video, it freezes for a couple moments and then just doesn't open up the menu or do anything. this is very annoying as I've spent a couple hours on a video but just can't access the mp4 of it so I might just lose a few hours.
