Perfect weather for motorcycle therapy on Saturday, August 15

North Fork Gales Creek Road. It starts in Yamhill County and goes by Barney Reservoir in Washington County and then all the way to the Tillamook County Campground. East gravel and dirt, though some tight turns. Yesterday. Me on my KLR, husband on his vintage Africa Twin.

…and it only took four and a half years.

Today was the day, I finally whined and complained and coerced my wife into the ride that I have been wanting to take her on since we started dating.

After waiting all week for today, I woke up this morning to the ever-present Portland bullshit of the “there is no precipitation in the forecast for the next ten days” drizzle. Fortunately it was short lived and once I got home from some morning responsibilities we hit the road - a quick chunk of slab and then on to the fun!

Scappoose/Vernonia Highway out to Vernonia to the taco truck for lunch (iykyk). Then back up 47 to 202 and out through Birkenfeld, Jewell, and Olney to Astoria. The goal of this trip (besides getting out on the bike with my lady) was hitting Frite and Scoop for the first time in too long. Took the easy way home straight back in 30. It was a long day for the wife (and for me too… ngl. Riding with a pillion is wonderful when you also adore them as a human, but it is definitely an added physical tax.)

Scappoose/Vernonia Hwy is in solid shape… probably 70-80%, there are some sections where the lines are getting pretty faint. 202 is gorgeous as always, except for the last little stretch into and out of Olney - surface is stressed and uneven, but not unridable.

30 is… 30. It was fine except for some lolly-gagging boat hauler who couldn’t manage to do better than ten-under the speed limit, and the cop that was right behind us for about 10 miles outside of Rainier.

Best day this month.

New-to-me bike with a morning out

Yesterday, I made the decision to trade-in my 2015 Suzuki V-Strom650. The bike I traded for and paid cash difference is an upgrade in every conceivable way. The Triumph Tiger 900 GT Pro is a sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet bike! It'll be absolutely perfect once I install a much taller windscreen.

Anyway, enjoy the pics from today!

Local gear shops

I havent been overly impressed with the cyclegear/revazilla. Also tired of dealing with the non sense of their store availability; a few times now id make sure an item was in-stock and the sales guy just says oh it must be at the other store blah blah

What are some local, or surrounding area, spots yall recommend for gear? The only other one I know of with a decent selection is Beaverton Motorcycle

Ride to vista house

Hi there I’m thinking about riding to vista house from Beaverton this coming weekend- I’m not used to riding in groups really generally ride alone but looking for a more fun easy going outing. I’m 34F on a 796 monster. I’m a slightly anxious introvert nerd type of person but really enjoy my bike and occasionally enjoy the company of some select humans lol I do have Cardo also for further social purposes but again this would be an easy going ride as I am not really accustomed to riding with others much. Lmk if interested or if you have other destinations near Portland that are great to visit thanks! ☺️

Looking for a local dirt bike shop for a Rekluse auto clutch install

Hey All, I bought a Rekluse auto clutch and installed it on my 2023 Gasgas EC300. I am having the hardest time getting it dialed in through their support and overall just videos/internet. (no fault of their support, I just think something else may be at play)

Is there a local shop around the Portland/Beaverton area that would be able to work with this? I think I'm in over my head with diagnosing what may be wrong.

I'm still working with their support and trying things but it's the same result each time (no free play gain and can move forward in first with clutch out or correct free play gain and it stalls when I release the clutch in first - it should be some free play gain and no stall ... )

So, I figured I'd get an idea if their were some local places I could take it if I exhaust all my current attempts. Thanks!

Getting first street bike

So im used to a 450 ktm 2 stroke dirt bike grew up dirtbiking starting out from a lil baby Honda . So I have alot of experience there. I've been going through looking at tons of bikes and options. (Financing as much as everyone says don't do it ) budget is under 12k-5k range. I just want something I can take care of from day 1 and don't have to worry about someone that abused it and having to replace a bunch of parts and stuff for a while. Already got strada 3 helmet alpine star boots and full gauntlet gloves from cycle gear. Still need jacket and pants (cant decide from heavy duty or lightweight ). I really like the sportsbike 650 series Kawasaki or r7 yamaha seem to be calling me. 30 male here clean driving record so insurance shopping before purchasing will be a huge factor. I know naked bikes are like a in-between of sports and cruiser. Any good tour bike I've seen is like 20k tho. Is there any suggestions almost debating about a z6xr ninja and respecting the bike and the mode settings while learning. I've heard it's worth upgrading windshield of Supersports for hwy speeds and making sure to add a cage for riding or pegs if learning to stunt. Also would lovd to make some friends so not just riding solo. All my time goes to working and being a dad so I got no social life
