Which is better to develop a friendslop vs Single Player Story Game?

Do you think it would be better to make a “friendslop” game designed mainly around fun, chaotic multiplayer gameplay with friends, rather than creating a single-player game focused heavily on a deep storyline and narrative? A friendslop game could potentially be easier and faster to develop, especially for a small indie team, while also being more replayable because players can create their own funny moments and experiences together. It could also have a greater chance of spreading through Twitch, YouTube, and social media if the gameplay produces unexpected or hilarious situations. On the other hand, a single-player storyline game gives much more creative freedom when it comes to storytelling, emotional moments, world-building, characters, and delivering a memorable experience. The main question is whether the goal should be to create something that is primarily fun and replayable with friends, or something more cinematic, meaningful, and story-driven that players experience alone. Which direction would be smarter for a small indie developer?

Hey, I am Ibrahim. A game programmer transitioning to a game designer and an artist (who graduated with a bachelor's in Literature and Linguistics and I hold M.Phil in Applied Linguistics too)!

Hey, I am Ibrahim. I have been developing games since 2017 using Unity and Godot (started during a little in school then left then again during my bachelor's); however, I never completed any serious games of mine because doing art for the games would demotivate me every time so it's a list full of incomplete prototypes.

Fast-forward, I work as a Unity Developer it's been 3-4 years I guess. It was all good, still okay, but the things changed for good when LLMs became mainstream for coding; now instead of solving problems on my own and feeling triumphant, all I do is just prompt and test. I used to find meaning in programming (because I couldn't complete any game), and I was fairly good at it - dealing with low-level stuff, like making and using native libraries, and programming sensors etc. I know C#, GDScript, Python, a little Flutter, somewhat C/C++, Javascript, and a little Rust too.

But ever since I have been using LLMs on my job it's been very boring for me. So, it motivated me to get better at game design, and even art again.

Here's my little attempt at game design: this game is based on Semantic Networks: a network of world relations in our mind (at least my Linguistics degree came to use for once lol)

You can try it here: https://www.crazygames.com/game/wordference

Soon it will be on the Playstore too.

I have been analyzing and designing puzzle games and I will share what I found soon!

I’m making a game ?

Hello people, hopefully you guys are doing awesome. I don’t know exactly what I wanna tell, so I guess I’ll go with the flow.

I’ve been a gamer almost all my life and of course, like most of you, wanted to make a game, but life takes its own turns, so that dream loses to other stuff. Well, in my case it was never fully lost, because I ended up doing engineering, became a software engineer, and ended up working in Silicon Valley.

Anyway, I never left gaming, but a few months ago I built my first ever PC, because I’ve always gamed on console, even in Pakistan, and I didn’t really enjoy gaming on PC since I’m so used to playing on console. So, to make use of my PC, I tried Unreal Engine, and to say the least, I’ve been enjoying it like anything. I’m an engineer, so this stuff isn’t alien to me, but I guess only new and to help me climb this mountain, Claude has been a gem, since I can ask it a question and it would answer like anything and save me hundreds or thousands of documentation reads.

So, long story short, I’ve been working on a farming game inspired by the Punjab/Sindh atmosphere. The loop is very simple: you grow, harvest, sell, buy more land, and repeat. I don’t work on the game full time, but rather a couple of hours a day after my job. I enjoy doing it, but making a game is a long, long process, probably like 5 years, especially for someone like me.

So I wouldn’t even consider this to be a game, but prolly a pre alpha, with no clue if it will ever reach the finish line. But I have the basic farming loop working, and I wanna share 2 snippets of before and after of my 3 months of development. I believe this kind of fidelity won’t be sustainable, but I think it’s worth sharing what one can achieve with a little consistency and a realistic goal.

Would love to hear your thoughts and experiences with game development. K bye

Salary For 2 years exp unity developer

On my second interview the interviewer said the market salary for unity game developer is less than 150k,

I want to know the salaries of Unity Game Developer per years of experience.

And the increment frequency. As the interviewer said they increment every year and average of 10%.

150k * 0.25 = 37.5k (Pre Inflation) , to run a family.

And have future in return of giving my young life years to work.

Or should I move from game dev?

Edit: Employer giving 70k for 2 year exp.

Im looking to get into game dev and any tips and tricks would be apprecieated.

Whats soemthing you wish you knew when you were getting started?

Is it lucrative as a career? (Im planning on doing it for fun, but just asking for feasibility)

What is a good career path to go down?

What are some really good resources for someone starting out, and what resources to use once you somewhat get the hang of it?
