Guardians assemble

Guardians assemble

I have been playing PSO on Wii and PSU on 360 in rotating sessions. Basically one game one week, then the other game the next. Rinse and repeat. I was nearly ready to give up on PSU but then things finally started clicking after what felt like 2 hours of introduction related dialogue/content.

This game is unique with the episodic tv format intro/outro to missions, the random anime cut ins and the quirky dialog.

The movement is light years ahead of PSO. It's nice not having your character freeze in place because they nicked a corner or got near an NPC. Being able to change weapons quickly is nice and the camera controls work quite well.

My only big complaint with this is it takes a while to figure out how to navigate all the different hubs. The starter hub has 5 floors with a train and 4 different ports to head to other areas.

The second hub is split into 2 districts. One for shopping then a different one for progressing the story/repeating quests. If an NPC tells you to meet them somewhere and you need to stop playing you better hope you wrote down where you were supposed to meet them or you're in for some back tracking.

PSO is a fun, clunky game with a rewarding but endless grind and a very loosely connected story.

PSU smoothed out the movement and combat with an actual story but made navigating the Hub tedious.

Both games are fun on their own and are worth checking out.

Is all the story content in Ambition of the Illuminus also in Phantasy Star Portable?

I just started the OG Phantasy Star series and I am loving it. I know that the OG series has little to do with PSO or PSU but I'm very excited to go through the entire series if possible. But I'm only interested in playing offline and for the plot. I'm not that interested in loot honestly.

With that said, I already own the first PSU. I was wondering if I can just play Phantasy Star Portable 1 or 2 instead of getting the PS2's Ambition of the Illuminus but I am unclear if that is a remake or it's own thing?

PSP2i widescreen hack

I'm sat here waiting for my Retroid Nova and wondering if a 4:3 aspect ratio hack would exist for psp games. I find widescreen hacks available for PSP1 and PSP2 but none for PSP2i. With a bit of tinkering, I find something that works (note: I only tested on the beginning map). These can be modifed for other aspect ratios; I just wrote 4:3 ones down since I was testing those. Hope someone finds this useful.

edit: This was already listed on the PSPi wiki page but under the name custom ratios which made it difficult to search for.
