PING Pioneer Cart Bag – Disappointed With the “Full-Length Dividers”

I recently bought a PING Pioneer cart bag for about $330 because I wanted better club organization and was tired of my clubs getting tangled up in my old bag. One of the main reasons I chose the Pioneer was its 15-way top with full-length dividers, which I thought would solve that problem.

Unfortunately, it hasn't worked the way I expected.

The dividers in the center of the bag appear to be properly separated, but the slots around the outside are a different story. They basically have nylon divider material hanging down inside the bag, but it's not attached along the sides or secured at the bottom.

The result is that club grips from neighboring slots can still move underneath or around the divider material, rub against each other, catch, and become tangled. To me, that defeats much of the purpose of having a 15-way bag with full-length dividers.

I called PING customer support because I initially thought there might be something wrong with my particular bag. I was told that this is how the Pioneer bags are designed and that mine isn't defective.

That's what surprised me the most.

This is a premium cart bag from a company with an excellent reputation, and at roughly $330, I expected the divider system to actually keep the clubs separated throughout the bag.

Other than this issue, I like quite a bit about the Pioneer. The storage, layout, appearance, and overall quality are very good. But the divider design is a major disappointment for me because avoiding club-grip tangling was one of the main reasons I wanted a 15-way, full-length-divider bag in the first place.

For anyone who owns a newer PING Pioneer: Have you noticed the same thing? Do your clubs/grips get tangled in the outside slots, or has this not been an issue for you?

I'm curious whether other owners consider this normal for a bag described as having full-length dividers.

S259 Wedge Lie Angle

Just curious what everyone's thoughts are here. I currently have a set of i240 4-U in green dot +1/2". I'd like to add s259 wedges, currently thinking 54* H Grind and 58* S Grind, both +1/2".

Just curious for those of you who use ping's color code system in your irons - do you play the same lie angle in your wedges?

I know a lot of people play wedges flatter than irons which makes sense. I think I'd be making full- or near-full swings with the 54 but probably not the 58. I was kinda thinking a 54 at blue dot (1* upright) and the 58 flat. Is that crazy?

Just curious to hear what other people play.

Thoughts on Harwood Mallet Putter?

Found a like new 2021 Ping Harwood on Marketplace for $100. Wondering if I should pull the trigger?

I started golfing last year after I bought a used set of clubs and am wanting to upgrade my putter. Based on prices at Second Swing, this seems like a good deal, but I can’t find many reviews on the Harwood.

I would test the putter before buying to make sure I like it, but wondering if anyone has used the Harwood and if the price is right or if I should look elsewhere.

Thanks!

UPDATE: Thanks all - really appreciate the advice! Going to pick it up tomorrow!

PING Japan's abysmal customer care

Just wanted to share this because I'm frustrated and I think other golfers should know before they deal with PING Japan.

Three years ago I won a PING driver as a prize in a golf competition here in Japan. I've taken good care of it and used it regularly since. Recently, through totally normal play, the clubface cracked.

I contacted PING Japan expecting a straightforward repair, since that's what I understood PING to be known for. Instead, I was told they won't repair the club without proof of purchase and that clubs received as gifts or competition prizes are simply excluded from repair service. It didn't matter that the driver was legitimately won through an official, PING-affiliated competition. I was turned away.

What really gets me is that this doesn't seem to be how PING operates in the US or Europe, where repair requests are apparently handled with a lot more flexibility. So if you're a PING customer in Japan, you may be held to a stricter standard than customers in other countries, for the exact same brand.

I get that companies need some way to prevent abuse of warranty policies. But refusing outright, with zero flexibility, for a club that was clearly won at a real event, over what is probably a minor repair cost, feels like a strange way to treat a loyal customer. I've genuinely liked PING clubs for years. This is the kind of experience that makes me hesitant to buy PING again, and I know a "small" policy issue like this can quietly cost a company more goodwill than it thinks.

Has anyone else in Japan (or elsewhere) run into this kind of proof-of-purchase policy with PING? Curious if this is a known issue or if I just got unlucky.

TL;DR: PING Japan won't repair a driver I won in a competition because I don't have a receipt, even though the crack came from normal wear. Heard this isn't how PING handles things in the US/Europe. Not thrilled.

Ping i240 wedge bounce is significantly higher than direct competitors

The bounce on the Ping i240s wedges (PW and UW) is 13°.

This is very significantly more that the main competitors for this iron set who, almost entirely, have the bounce less than 10° for the comparable wedges in the iron set.

I'm wondering why Ping went with such a high bounce in these wedges and what is your experience using them?

Ping Putter Identification

Can anyone tell me anything about this Ping putter? I picked it up today with the plan of cleaning it up and playing it but figured I would just double check that it wasnt worth anything first.

The inscription reads:

U.S. PAT. NO. D207227
KARSTEN MFG.CORP.
PHOENIX, ARIZ. 85029
MADE IN U.S.A.

It has a slot in the bottom and no alignment marks if that matters.

Legitimacy check

This scottsdale ketsch putter is being sold locally for a fairly decent price - first impressions are good, but I wanted to check for any red flags before I see it in person. Thanks.
