Have you ever gone to a 'fancy' French campsite?

When I heard a couple of people talk about how they love going to France to campsites each summer I imagined them in a forest packed into a Decathlon tent.

There were people with high paying jobs so they are not slumming it so was wondering what the experience is like for a family in the top French campsites?

G430 Iron separating ferrule issue

Is it a concern that the black plastic part (the ferrule?) is separating from the head on my G430 7i?

The head still seems attached solidly.

I bought them used and I know the lie was adjusted and then put back to blue dot before I bought them so it might have been someone in a pro shop being a bit rough with them as the top looks like it was forced down with a tool and not done very well. I don't think the previous owner tried to do anything to them himself.

Would it be necessary to put it in for repair?

Thanks.

Dublin activities in the few few months.

What are the best activities to do with your baby in the few few months?

St Anne's Park is great, especially on a Saturday and the walk along Clontarf / Bull Island is brilliant.

Malahide castle is great for parking and walking with a pram and near enough to stop into the village.

Howth village is ok but it gets a bit restrictive with a pram to move around much but once the kid is comfortable in a harness it opens up a bit more of the walks.
Any other good suggestions?

Pay as you play groups

I was reading the post about the group that has preferential rates for the Palmer South course at the K club and regular Saturday competitions and thought it is a great idea.

Are there any other groups like this that you could recommend for those of us where the K club is a bit too far?

Golf lessons on the course?

Is there any coach in Dublin that does lessons on the course or at least on grass that replicates course conditions?

I'm struggling to transfer the results from the driving range mat to the course.

Twinnings Black Tea with Vanilla

Twinnings sell this black tea with vanilla in France.

Does anyone know where I could find it in Dublin? It seems that they keep it for the French market.

Ping i240 iron shaft options (AWT 3.0 vs Nippon 105)

I'm considering the two shafts options for the Ping i240 irons.

I'm interested to hear people's thoughts on which approach they prefer.

-

PING AWT 3.0 Adaptive set design – optimise each iron individually (lighter long irons, heavier short irons).

Nippon Modus³ Tour 105 Uniform set design – make every iron feel and perform as consistently as possible.

Wedge Fitting Process

Looking for info from people who did a wedge fitting on how the process was done.

Was it done with an indoor launch monitor, outdoor driving range, etc.

Were a few shafts sampled or was it a standard wedge flex shaft from the various brands?

How was the bounce and grind decided for your set and what lofts did you end up getting?

What brands did you try out and what did you like or dislike with each?

Thanks.

Any plans for a 39mm Pelagos with date?

I'm hoping to get a 39mm Pelagos with date. The 42mm is too big for me and the new 39mm HydroConquest is too shiny.

It would be great if they would release a 39mm Pelagos with date and a great on the fly adjustment, T-Fit or something else.

Any rumours of one coming out?

Reflection from highly polished hands on HydroConquest?

I really like the look of the 39mm HydroConquest in black.

My main concern is that the hands, due to being highly polished will reflect light a lot and in general I really try to avoid watch faces that have reflection

I know there is anti reflective coating on this watch but in general I would love to hear from people who have worn this out and if they notice much reflection from the crystal or anything on the face?

Thanks.

Only a third of new builds are available for the average person to buy

From Sherry Fitz;

Out of the 36,246 new completions in 2025, some 12,135 were sold to households.

The share of new homes being sold on the open market hit a 15-year low in 2023 when only 29 per cent of 32,473 new builds were sold on the open market.

Data from the Central Statistics Office has shown non-household entities, including investment funds and State-backed housing charities and county councils that purchase homes for social and affordable housing, have grown to command close to half of all sales.

The remaining share of new residential stock each year is typically one-off houses, which have accounted for a fifth on average of all new-build homes over the past six years.

What changes are happening in Irish gambling legislation?

What legislation is changing in Ireland and when in relation to sports betting?

Bookmakers are all updating their terms and conditions, requesting additional documentation and requiring people to agree to modified conditions.

In what practical ways will things change for sports bettors in Ireland?

Ping driver shafts getting longer. Is this a good thing?

The new Alta CB shaft on the Ping G440 driver is now 46" and they have reduced the club head weight to compensate for this.

I have my suspicions that this is more for marketing so they can get some longer yardages in a retail environment on a launch monitor and in reality accuracy suffers for the vast majority of people.

If we buy this driver and then plan to shorten it then we have to guess what is the optimal length to shorten it and then add weights or lead tape to try to get the swing weight right again.

Do you feel that these shafts are getting too long and most of us would be better off using shorter driver shafts to get a lot more accuracy and hitting the sweet spot more often at the expense of a few yards on those times that we hit it perfectly with the longer shafts?

What round the clock care options are available for elderly person in their own home?

My father is approaching his mid 80s and while still reasonably in good shape those days are limited.

He doesn't like the idea of a nursing home, really prefers to stay in his own home and coming to live with us is not really an option as we don't have the space.

I'm curious to hear from others what round the clock 24 hour care is available for elderly people in their own home and if you have a good idea on the cost and any schemes to help with this I would appreciate it.

It is also a 2 story house so if there are any schemes available to help with the conversion costs to adapt the house to their increasingly restricted needs that would be great.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Can a member give paid golf lessons to others members of their club?

I was wondering if clubs allow their members who might be good at giving lessons to charge other members for lessons on the course even if there is a pro there running the shop / comps / etc and relying on lessons to supplement their income?

For those that don't allow on course lessons what would be the etiquette in bringing someone to another location / driving range as this is also potentially reducing the club pros income?

Thanks.

Golf Lesson Videos - Beginner being coached by Pro

I'm watching a few videos on YouTube and it's usually a pro giving lessons on how to do something and then they do it perfectly but they forget about a lot of small inconsistencies that beginners have.

I would like to find more videos where the beginner is the one swinging the club while the pro advises them and makes adjustments while explaining what went wrong and how to adjust to fix it.

A good example is the following video;

Can you recommend any others? Thanks.

Weekends in Corballis & Elmgreen

I see full membership for 12 months at Corballis is €900 and this allows me to play in Elmgreen also.

How easy it it to get a tee time at the weekend in both courses out of competition and what are the weekend competitions like in both for a relative beginner?

What is the additional cost for a full member to play in a competition if it is the only option to get a round in on a Saturday morning.

Overall would it be worth paying? I likely will play 25 times a year between both so I would spend that in green fees anyway but probably not much more than that for the next while and probably won't get to play much during the week for the next couple of years.

Any advice appreciated for someone new to the game.

Thanks.

Optimal wedges for Ireland

I'm interested to hear what are the most optimal bounce and grind options that suit the most people in Ireland.

Let's take the standard 50, 54, 58 Vokeys.

I play half links half parkland.

I have a fairly neutral style where I'm not a steep digger and am not looking to become an artist around the greens.... yet.

I'm thinking of going with;

50.10 F – simple gap wedge for full shots

54.10 S – good balance for neutral strike and Irish mix of links/parkland

58.10 S – forgiving lob wedge for inconsistent bunker play and still versatile around greens without being too technical

I'm interested to hear from others what wedge setup they went with.
