Why do I stop rotating?

If anybody has any tips as to how I can actually rotate through my swing please let me know. I struggle big time with consistency whether it’s distance or ball striking. Video is from my Rapsodo.

The takeaway fault almost every midhandicapper has and the drill to fix it

Wanted to share something because I see it literally every single week and most golfers have no idea they're doing it.

The fault: lifting the club with the hands and arms in the takeaway.

You can spot it when the hands move first, the right elbow folds early, and by the time the lead arm gets to parallel the club is already laid off or across the line. From there the entire downswing is a rescue mission. You either come over the top, flip through impact, or both.

The cause is usually that nobody's ever told them what should be moving in the first 30cm of the backswing.

The fix:

Until the hands pass the trail leg, the arms and hands do nothing independently. The takeaway is driven by the shoulders and lats. Same motion as a putting stroke, just bigger.

The cue I use most is "rock it like you're rocking a baby." Yeah I know it sounds soft but it gets people out of the lifting pattern almost immediately because it makes them connect the arms to the torso.

Two checkpoints to make you hit:

  1. Past the trail leg. Club still outside the hands, not sucked behind
  2. Lead arm parallel to the ground. Have the shaft at roughly 45 degrees, trail elbow folded, trail wrist with a slight cup

If you can get to those two positions, the rest of the swing tends to organise itself. The club is on plane, the body has stayed connected, and they actually have something to deliver from.

How I drill it:

  1. 10 reps with pauses. Hands past leg, pause, check. Lead arm parallel, pause, check. Then fire
  2. 10 reps hitting half shots from the parallel position only. No full swing. Just feel the strike from there
  3. Then a few full swings trying to keep the same connected feel.

I know this sounds basic but the pause work is what makes it stick. Most amateurs swing so fast they never actually feel what their body is doing in the takeaway... they're just hoping it works out.

Happy to answer questions on this if anyone's working through the same thing. Also please don't roast me if I used too many bullet points here :D

Fixing terrible over the top swing

Hi, I’ve been working more on my hip movement and trying to sequence better. I hoping to get any tips for my over the top move, and how to swing more from the inside.

Fighting a slice part 3

Struggling to consistently fix my slice. On occasions I have a small fade which will pretty much land where i aim, but most of the time the ball will start straight then start bananaing. I've tried a stronger grip, keeping my lead forearm higher than my right, taking a step back on my right leg and swinging left. I've noticed at the end of my backswin my upper body goes up a little, I cant keep to fix it.

Inconsistent direction

As the title states my directional play isn’t the best, I’m not sure if I just need to spend more time over the ball and concentrating on where I’m hitting it or if it’s something to do with ball position or my swing even. Any advice would be great!

What are my biggest mistakes? (7 iron)

I’ve been golfing about a month and sometimes strike the ball surprisingly well, but inconsistently.

I think I may be over gripping the club and I suspect im not using my wrists at all. I can see my swing looks awkward and I see some elbow bend when I strike the ball, but not sure what adjustment to make. I’m hoping to fix mistakes early before they become bad habits! Any pointers are welcome.

How do I stay loose and fluid in my golf swing while also being in control

The title may sound confusing and I wish I had swing footage, but let me explain

I’m not that good of a golfer at all, but I’m trying to play more in 2026 and I’m a 25 handicap who shot his first 90 last weekend, so that number is currently dropping with my better 10 rounds being updated.

But I really want that loose, fluid tempo swing that compresses the ball well. The swing that people say to be smooth instead of trying to kill the ball. But when I try to bring that into my swing, it just feels like the club is turning in my hand and coming out as a slice.

My swing that I currently use and works for me currently is one where I have to be very tense and in control of my movements to limit the chance of the shot coming out bad. Kinda like a DeChambeau swing where you try to make every swing look identical every time and standardized.

Does anyone have a mental cue or something that can help me picture the feeling of silky swing with soft arms, but also a tight grip and forearms? Maybe some drills that can help fix my tempo also? I know this is all probably confusing with no video but any help is appreciated

7/10 Swings are slice OB with driver

I have been playing for 8 months and am working on getting better. I have had coaching lessons but they were almost exclusively with irons. I recently had a lesson with my driver specifically and now am practicing with a strong grip and trying to keep the clubface more closed but obviously still hit a big slice the majority of the time. Driver has been so so hard to try and keep under control.

Is driver something that I just need to keep working on trying to come more in to out and less steep (that is what I assume my problem is not sure) and for now I just don't try and hit it during an actual round until I can keep it in play?

I snap hook my driver for as long as I’ve played

My irons are somewhat solid, but my driver has been out of the bag since I started playing. I can’t hit anything other than the low left shot with my driver. I understand I have an early extension but cannot seem to cure it. Any other tips or drills I should work on? Thank you in advance!
