Looking for feedback on browser-based Ryder cup captaincy game built with AI-assistance

Hi all,

I’ve spent the last week or so building a small browser game called Drive For Five and would love some honest feedback.

The game is a fairly straightforward golf captaincy simulation inspired by the Ryder Cup. You draft a team, set pairings, and try to guide your side through a series of historical matches.

A few things to be aware of:
- I’m not a professional developer. The game was built with significant AI assistance while I learned as I went.
- It’s a free browser game rather than a commercial project.
- It’s still very much in prototype mode.

All feedback welcome! Thanks in advance for taking a look.

What’s the toughest course you’ve played on a golf trip?

Have you seen me?

I know this is a long shot but I’m desperately trying to get this headcover returned to me. I lost it in Headfort Golf Club and it means a great deal to me as it was handmade by my partner. I know he’s goofy and strange but I miss him lots. Maybe you’ve seen him around and if you have please get in contact with me!

On a side note, who do you think he’s supposed to be… Shrek or Yoda?

Zero experience. No clubs. Where do I start?

You've likely heard this story more than a handful of times. I'm starting to break into a circle who enjoys golf. I've never really had a head for it but I haven't given it the attention it deserves either. I want to start - both for my own benefit and social life. I have zero idea where to start. I am currently searching beginner kits but I am savvy enough to know those are probably a bit of a cash pit without guidance. Can someone give me the skinny on where/who/what for a complete noob.

Played Druid’s Heath Golf Club today

It was great to get out on Druid’s Heath this morning. Very windy but nice and sunny. The course is in great condition, the greens true and fast. There’s an open competition every Thursday.

Pay as you play groups

I was reading the post about the group that has preferential rates for the Palmer South course at the K club and regular Saturday competitions and thought it is a great idea.

Are there any other groups like this that you could recommend for those of us where the K club is a bit too far?

Pay as you play Dublin

New to Reddit and enjoying the many posts about golf. I’ve seen a few posts about joining clubs and struggles with time, cost, committing to play etc. There’s a great club that plays on the Palmer South Course every Saturday morning at the K Club in Straffan. Nominal membership fee (€255) with Golf Ireland handicap , then we pay 50% of the going green fee each time we play (€50/€55). It’s a fantastic course which has hosted the European Open several times. I joined 15 years ago and have been a member since then. Look up Hibernian Golf Club. https://www.hiberniangolf.com/

Spent the last 11 months developing a golf fitness and practice app (launches today, would love feedback)

Hi all,

I'm Barry, a 5 handicap based in Killenard, Co. Laois, with a busy life who's trying to get better.

I had been searching for a good app for golf practice and fitness and didn't like the user experience of anything on the market, so I've spent the past 11 months building an app called ApexGolf to solve this.

This is not another vibe-coded app which was put together in a fortnight. I genuinely can't describe how much work has gone into it.

It uses AI, but it's deliberately not swing analysis or another AI coach. It's two things:

Structured practice. Sessions with a bit of intent and a record of what you did, instead of pounding 100 balls at the range and going home depressed.

Golf fitness. Simple stuff to rotate and move better, built for people who don't live in a gym.

The whole thing runs on an 80/20 idea. Log the minimum that's genuinely useful, skip the admin, let small consistent data do the work. It doesn't feel like homework.

It's out today on App Store and Google Play, and you can test it out with a two week trial without committing any cash.

I'd rather hear what's broken from people who actually practice in Irish conditions than guess. Would love for you to give it a go, and I'm happy to answer any questions below!

Golf lessons on the course?

Is there any coach in Dublin that does lessons on the course or at least on grass that replicates course conditions?

I'm struggling to transfer the results from the driving range mat to the course.

Looking for advice on the best option to squeeze a last-minute round in near Dingle.

On a family trip with another family that doesn’t play golf and just got the official approval from my wife for a round one day. The travel agent suggested a round at Ring of Kerry, but I don’t get the impression that it’s a highly recommended course.

Staying for three nights in Dingle and three nights in Sheen falls. So I guess what I’m looking for help with is where I should target that might have availability with little notice and if I only get one chance to get a taste of Irish golf what would you recommend? I don’t care about prestige as much as experience. I hope a golf trip with the boys to this amazing country is in my future. Thanks for any help!

Golf and hotel near a busy city/town in Leinster or surrounding

Hey, sorry if this is a common one. 8 guys looking to get our annual night away and round of golf on a Saturday morning in for August and looking for advice.

Ideally would want to find a hotel within 10-15mins in a cab from a town with some nightlife for the Friday and sat night, where we could play either on site or very close by on the Sat morning. (We find it's often much easier to to get an early tee time when you are staying in the hotel).

Any suggestions?

Tourist Question: Getting to the Course Via Public Transit

Hello, friends. I'm an American vacationing in Ireland and Northern Ireland in a couple of weeks. I have one tee time booked already at Strandhill near Sligo and am looking at adding another round when I'm in Northern Ireland at Ardglass. I'll be traveling by train and bus while I'm visiting, so I'm looking for guidance on getting to the course. Strandhill seems to be a short cab ride from Sligo where I'll be staying. What would the best way be to travel from Belfast to Ardglass? Or should I try to find a place to stay close to the course? Forgive me if the answer is as simple as "just call a cab" - I'm from a part of the US where owning a car is the only option for getting around.

Thanks in advance for the friendly guidance! And if anyone is up for a round near Belfast (or even Dublin) July 10-12, DM me! I'm a 9 handicap, play fast and always walk.

Offered free laser engraving 2 weeks ago—the offer is still open!

Hey everyone,

I posted about two weeks ago offering free laser engraving, and the response was awesome. I wanted to follow up and say the offer is still open if anyone missed it!

I’ve attached a few photos of some recent pieces I’ve done so you can see the kind of detail we can get.

Joining a club - advice

Hey guys. Looking for some advice. I have recently went back playing golf after stopping maybe 30 years ago in my teens. Mainly just doing range or go out myself to my local par 3.

Id love to join a course local here in wicklow but only moved her ten year ago and wouldn't know many people in the area and I am not amazing socially.

Would not getting member signatures to endorse my joining be a major issue and would I always end up having to play with random others or would I get out on my own? Would love to play more but lack of knowing anyone makes me very apprehensive about joining a club (plus I'm quite a bad golfer 😂)

Best shop to view bags?

In the market for a new bag. I want a 14 full divider bag with a stand and there are plenty online but I really want to see some of the bags in person. What shop would have the best available selection to view?
