Upgrading from Pixel 8 Pro to Pixel 10 Pro XL – The hate is completely unjustified

Hey everyone,

I’ve watched and read basically every single review and thread about the new model. After using it myself, I have to say: this phone is getting an unfair amount of hate. I read all the negative reports about battery life and performance, but my real-world experience tells a completely different story.

My old device used to overheat constantly. Sometimes it got so hot it literally felt like a hand warmer. My new one? It hasn't overheated a single time. The only time it got even remotely "warm" was when I was using navigation while streaming music at the same time and even then, it was just very slightly warm. Let’s be real here: other flagships get warm during intensive tasks too. My friend has a recent fruit-branded flagship, and that thing got just as hot as my old phone.

Here is my detailed breakdown after upgrading:

📱 Display

  • Premium Feel: The screen simply feels more premium, and the glass surface itself feels like higher quality when typing and swiping.
  • Brightness & Colors: The upgraded brightness is the very first thing you notice. On top of that, the colors look significantly better and more vibrant compared to the previous model.

⚙️ CPU & Modem

  • Performance & Speed: The performance is excellent and more than enough for anything you throw at it. The jump to the new storage standard makes a massive, very noticeable difference in daily snappiness.
  • Connectivity: Signal strength and cellular reception are much better.
  • Thermals: The combination of the large vapor chamber, the improved modem, and the architecture completely fixes the old thermal issues I mentioned above. It runs incredibly cool.

📷 Camera

  • Speed: Even though it uses similar sensor hardware, the shutter speed is much faster. This is especially noticeable when shooting in the full 50MP mode. Faster shutter speeds also mean significantly fewer blurry photos.
  • Image Quality: The color tuning is a bit warmer now, which perfectly fixes those occasionally washed-out photos the old model used to produce.
  • Zoom: The 10x mix looks slightly cleaner and better optimized.

🔋 Battery Life

  • Active Use: I used to get terrible battery life before. With this new model, right from the very first day before the system could even optimize anything, the active usage time has been incredible and easily lasted through the day.
  • Multi-Day Performance: Right now, I am well into my second day of normal usage, and the battery is still halfway full. I am easily on track to get two full days of use out of this device. The passive drain when the phone is just sitting on the desk is completely fixed.
  • My Routine: I don't try to save power at all. I constantly use maps, navigation, messaging apps, checking social feeds, and taking pictures.

🎧 Miscellaneous (Haptics, Speakers & Daily Life)

  • Haptics/Vibration: The vibration motor feels different compared to the previous model. Personally, I wouldn't say it's better, just different. The older one felt a bit less "hollow," but the new one still gives you a top-tier premium haptic feedback experience. For me, it's almost on the same level as an iPhone (though I still miss 3D Touch).
  • Speakers: They are improved and sound better, but they are still not quite on the same level as Samsung or iPhone flagships. To be honest, I don’t use the speakers that much anyway because I have a small baby at home, so my phone is permanently on mute/vibrate haha.

I managed to get the phone through a deal for around 560 bucks included original case, pixel ring, stream 4k worth 100eur and getting the pixel buds 2 pro for effectively 70eur. What i am trying to say is, if you got a deal in your country for 600-700 eur max, get it.

Insane charging time!

Why does my Pixel 10Pro XL need 3 hours to charge from 20%?!

This is ridiculously frustrating! Anyone else experiencing this? How to resolve it?

Edit: it seems that because of the following I'm getting this terrible experience:

  1. Adaptive charging is on, I set it off to test.
  2. The original pixel case is a heat trapper because of the polycarbonate and microfiber. I removed it while charging to test as well.
  3. My hotspot is currently always on, because my wifi is down. Switching it off to test

Will update you with how it goes. And thanks to you all!

How does the Pixel 10 Pro compare to the Pixel 7 Pro camera?

I recently switched from a Pixel 7 Pro to a Galaxy S26 Ultra, but I actually prefer many of the photos from my old Pixel.

The Pixel handled HDR much better (especially around bright windows), greens looked more natural, and skin tones looked more realistic.

I'm thinking about switching back, but I've read that the Pixel 10 Pro produces more saturated colors than previous Pixel phones.

For those who have used both: does the Pixel 10 Pro still have the natural Pixel look, or has Google moved closer to Samsung's style with more saturated colors and heavier processing? I'm mainly interested in HDR, skin tones, and overall color accuracy.

NostalgicPod – I turned my old Pixel into a modern iPod!

Hey Pixel friends,

I’m a solo developer and I recently turned my old Pixel 6 into my personal “modern iPod”.

I built an Android app called NostalgicPod that recreates the iPod Classic experience: click wheel, Cover Wheel, classic menus, Now Playing, star ratings, Shuffle Songs, Shuffle Albums, and classic games like Snake, Solitaire and Brick.

It also works as a modern music player with local offline music, FLAC/ALAC/WAV support, automatic album artwork and lyrics, podcasts, live internet radio, Bluetooth, USB DAC support, custom themes, and an AMOLED Ultra Dark mode.

It works especially well on older Pixels, because instead of leaving them in a drawer, you can turn them into a dedicated offline music player.

No subscriptions, no ads, no accounts. Just your music.

This is only the beginning. I already have a roadmap of improvements, new features, and more classic games I'd love to bring back. I'm building this alongside the community, so if there are features or little details from the original iPod you'd like to see recreated, let me know.

I hope NostalgicPod, even if only for a moment, makes you feel the way you did when using an iPod.

Download:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nostalgicpod.app

Website & Community:
https://nostalgicpod.com/

Happy to answer anything!

UPDATE: NostalgicPod 2.7.5 is now available!

This update adds custom playlists!

Music Search: find any song instantly by title, artist or album, right from Music → Search.

Jump to the current song: holding the Play button now takes you directly to the song that is currently playing, just like on the original iPod.

Under the hood: better external library / SD card scanning, and various fixes.

Please update and let me know how it works for you!

7 yrs Software Support

So the pixel 10 Pro 256 GB is like 750€ which is quite expensive. But if it holds up for 5-7 yrs, I think it is a good Investment. Thing is: will it still be useable after 5+ yrs of use? It has enough RAM to be futureproof, but Tensor G5 is already for somethings underpowered and the battery does get quite hot...

What do you guys think about the real world longevity of this phone?

What do you charge your pixel 10 pro XL or pixel pro10 at?

I'm trying 45 w. Charges fast. Not sure if 20 min faster is worth the heat I am getting, from the 45w, that I don't get with my 20w.

Is 30 w probably the safe middle ground?

Pixel 10 Pro arriving soon

Switching from an iPhone 14, was my first one from iPhone 8c, after 3 years I finally give up on it and am excited to get back to Android.

Picked it up for £640 on Amazon Prime Day and has since gone back up to £750 so hoping it’s a great buy.

Is there anything I need to do while setting up to make the experience smoother?

Delivery issues with the pixel 10 pro 256gb

Hi everyone,

I had ordered a 256gb Pixel 10 pro in Obsidian a few weeks ago because the screen on my pixel 7 pro broke and I am facing a very strange delivery issue.

It was supposed to be first delivered between 24th and 26th of June. Then between 26th and 29th June.

Then between 29th and 1st of July.

Now the Google store shows me a delivery date of January 19 to January 22nd 2027!

Has anyone else who recently bought the phone experienced the same issue?

It's really very annoying!

Pro 10 touch issues

When i am using my phone when it is laying down, the top of the screen stops responding to touch. For example if i am on chrome, and try to open the searchbar, it doesnt work. I can pull down the notifications and it works normally so it is not a hardware issue.

It is so frustrating because when I am playing in can't use any of the buttons on the top of the screen.

Am i the only one?

Screen glitches when exiting landscape videos in TikTok

Every time I watch a landscape video in TikTok and then exit it, my screen glitches. It turns purple or black, and the app freezes. I have to restart the app to fix it. I've attached photos. Is anyone else experiencing this? When I watch a horizontal (landscape) video in TikTok and then try to minimize or swipe it away, the screen glitches. It turns purple or black, and the video gets stuck on the screen. Sometimes I can still hear the audio, but the display is frozen until I restart the app (or the phone).

This happens consistently when exiting landscape videos. I've attached photos showing the issue.

I'm really disappointed. I paid a lot of money for this phone, and bugs like this are unacceptable.

Screen freezes with pixelated line on the bottom

So in the last two weeks my Pixel 10 Pro randomly gets this weird issue, where the screen gets stuck/freezes and the screen cant be used anymore. On the bottom of the screen appears a pixelated line as you can see on the photo. Audio is still working and i also can use voice commands. The Phone stays in this condition for up to 10 minutes and reboots itself. Has anyone experienced similar issues?

Google pixel gets ruined by pseudocode pls help

Yesterday I was messing around with my google pixel 10 pro xl and I saw a funny language I selected it and restarted and my phone was completely gone, It was on a screen that was the little loading icon but the wallpaper was not the one I set it was the default one and it was glitching up and down, safe mode did not work, I tried to use ADB to flash new software but not it is stuck at a G with no visible sign of progress.

This is my daily driver so I need it fixed I have 100+GB of photos and videos I would not like to loose and google photos backup is not on

Edit:

I ended up resetting the phone and device backup saved my ass,

I did end up losing all of my photos but my texts and settings were intact! never using developer mode again

lesson learned.

Pixel 10 Pro: Massive overnight battery drain (85% → 23%) with Wi-Fi/Data off

  1. Overnight battery drain

Went to sleep with the phone at 85%. Woke up to 23%. Phone was completely idle on the nightstand — no apps open, no usage. Both Wi-Fi and mobile data were switched off the entire time, so there shouldn't have been any background sync, downloads, or network activity at all. Screen-on time for the drain window shows 0 minutes. According to Battery Usage, "System apps" are showing 100% of the usage for that period, which doesn't tell me much beyond "something in the background is eating it."

  1. USB-C to USB-C charging keeps disconnecting

When I charge with a C-to-C cable, the connection keeps cutting in and out — I'll see the charging icon flicker, sometimes it stops charging entirely for a bit, then resumes. Switched to an A-to-C cable with the same charger/brick and it charges completely normally with zero interruptions. So it seems isolated to C-to-C specifically on this unit.

Anyone else experiencing this? Curious if this is a known software issue (wake lock / battery stats bug) that a future update might fix, or if this points to a hardware problem with the USB-C port/charging circuit specifically on my unit. Has anyone gotten a replacement for similar symptoms, or found a fix?
