Completed another 'legacy' rom hack! I was very nervous about the elite 4 and my team being under level 50, but they really came through! Same rule apply to the emerald legacy, but I wanted to make a team that's only 2nd generation. Off to do the Kanto region. Should I play the Yellow legacy now that I completed crystal and emerald?

Documentation deleted?

Hi all, just started crystal legacy recently and am loving it. It looks like the full feature list document linked on the GitHub page has been deleted in the last day or two - does anybody know of an alternate source? Specifically interested in things like move potency and pokemon location/spawn rate changes.

Pokerus

Playing Emerald Legacy Enhanced on Hard Mode. Just before gym 2. When I catch a Pokemon, I’ll “soft ev train” it. Where for like the first 10-15 levels, I’ll loosely try to focus on proper EVs (aside from Seedot, route 103 only gives attack and speed, route 101 gives attack, hp and speed, etc).

I got Pokerus (never had that happen in 27 years). What are the odds of that in this game? Does it 2x EV’s or do more? How can I preserve it and infect all my Pokemon indefinitely?

I Have Been Looking for Onix for Two and a Half Hours

According to the documentation as well as this site: ( Rusturf Tunnel | Emerald Legacy Dex Locations | Emerald Legacy Dex ), Onix should be able to be found in Rusturf Tunnel between levels 5 and 8 with an 8% chance.

I have been here for two and a half hours while doing nothing but listening to FalseSwipeGaming on loop as I grind wild encounters. I have seen about ten billion Whismurs, and more Igglybuffs than I can possibly count, despite them being the second-rarest thing in the cave behind Onix itself.

The page lists the encounter as "field", but after a certain point I began wondering if they're actually inside the Rock Smash rocks, because this is just absurd. I feel like I should have seen dozens of these bastards at this point. Something feels off, and if I'm doing something wrong or my ROM is bugged, any information would be extremely appreciated.

My Second Run Through Yellow Legacy

Wanted to use some that don't get used much. E4 was much smoother than I anticipated!

Crystal Adventures v0.2

Pokemon Crystal Adventures v0.2

https://github.com/altbanty/CrystalAdventures/releases/tag/v0.2

Testing and feedback appreciated.

Next I am looking at changing the order of gym leaders, randomizing cave/forest routes, expanding Kanto game, or trying to interweave both Gold and Silver sprites in the games.

If you can think of anything else that would make the game more fun, replayable, or balanced, let me know.

v0.2 Change log

  • Gameplay Changes : 11 starters, whiteout overhaul (lead revived at 1 HP, no money halving), 2.5× catch EXP, level-cap announcements, locked weird tree, pre-Whitney trainer bump, rod warnings, contest disabled
  • More Randomization : hold-item gifts (Santos / Mystic Water man), the expanded randomized pickups across ~20 more locations, Cianwood Pharmacy stone, Morty/Clair gym variants
  • Economy & Balance : potion price cuts, free-healing loopholes closed (Elm's machine, Route 26, PC-withdraw exploit)
  • Bug Fixes : fishing/Squirt Bottle Nuzlocke blocks, the weird-tree player-clone bugs, revive cost overflow, bag-give crash

Crystal Adventures Overview

A roguelike nuzlocke reimagining of Pokemon Crystal Legacy

Crystal Adventures transforms Pokemon Crystal Legacy into a strategic, replayable adventure. Nuzlocke rules are built into the game, shops and gym teams are randomized, and healing costs money. every decision matters, and no two playthroughs are the same.

Design Goals

  • High replayability: Randomized starters, gym teams, shops, TM rewards, NPC trades, gift Pokemon, and overworld items mean each run feels fresh
  • Strategic resource management: Paid healing and one-catch-per-route force you to think carefully about every battle and every Pokeball
  • Streamlined experience: Faster early-game dialogue, optional tutorials, and a single balanced difficulty with no mode selection
  • Built on Crystal Legacy: All of Legacy's polish, rebalanced learnsets, improved sprites, and quality-of-life fixes carry over

Features

Nuzlocke Catch Rule

Only the first wild Pokemon you encounter on each route can be caught. You get multiple Pokeball attempts during that encounter, but once it's over, that route is done. Static encounters (legendaries, gifts, special events) bypass this restriction. Every team you build is unique.

Paid Healing

Pokemon Centers charge for their services:

  • 1¥ per HP restored
  • 2¥ per PP point restored
  • 10¥ per status condition cured
  • Level x 25¥ to revive a fainted Pokemon (includes PP restoration)

The cost is shown before you commit. Budget wisely. Running low on money with a battered team is a real danger.

Randomized Starters

Three starters are randomly selected from a pool of eight: Chikorita, Totodile, Cyndaquil, Aipom, Sudowoodo, Smeargle, Swinub, and Mareep. Each starts at level 5 holding a Berry.

Randomized Trainers & Gym Leaders

All eight Johto Gym Leaders have multiple possible team configurations, and 147 regular Johto trainers each have three possible teams — randomly selected at battle start. Even if you know Crystal inside and out, every trainer battle can surprise you.

Randomized Shops & TMs

The Goldenrod Dept Store stocks change each playthrough. 3F sells a random selection of evolution stones, trade evolution items, held items, type boosters, and vitamins, while 5F offers six randomized TMs drawn from tiered pools. Gym TM rewards and fixed TM pickups throughout Johto are also randomized. 34 Gen 1 TMs (TM51–TM84) have been added to the game, expanding the available move options.

Randomized Overworld Items

144 item pickups across 62 Johto maps draw from randomized pools of 3–5 possible items each. That Great Ball you found last run might be an Ultra Ball or a Nugget this time.

Randomized Trades, Gifts & Encounters

NPC trades, gift Pokemon (Karate King, Mania, Bill), and the Route 36 weird tree encounter all draw from randomized pools.

Catch Experience Bonus

Catching a wild Pokemon awards 2x experience, rewarding you for building your team rather than just knocking everything out.

Improved Shiny Pokemon

Shininess is based on a Pokemon's combined DVs (stats). A higher DV total means a shiny Pokemon genuinely has stronger stats than average. The shiny threshold has been lowered for a roughly 3% encounter rate. rare enough to be exciting, common enough that you'll see them.

Mystery Egg

Professor Elm's egg randomly contains one of eight baby Pokemon: Togepi, Pichu, Cleffa, Igglybuff, Smoochum, Elekid, Magby, or Tyrogue.

Rival Teams

Your rival's team composition adapts based on which starter you chose, keeping the matchup dynamic across playthroughs.

Quality of Life

  • Skippable Prof. Oak intro explaining the game's mechanics
  • Shortened early-game dialogue for faster pacing
  • Optional Route 29 catching tutorial
  • Elm's aide gives Poke Balls alongside the Potion for immediate catching
  • Wild encounter distribution rebalanced for Nuzlocke play
  • Rebalanced catch rates and repel prices

Found Physical Cartridges for sale online

I really love the legacy series, and recently have gotten into playing old pokemon games since I got my old gameboy sp modded with new screen and type c charging.

At first I starting buying all the old games gens 1-3. I got blue, gold, sapphire and fire red. All authentic and in pretty good condition as well. But at the end of the day these games are still boring vanilla Pokémon so I looked into finding roms on cartridges so I could have the best of both worlds playing an updated retro game on an updated retro console!

After searching for a while I came across gearshiftgalor.com
They had the whole legacy collection as well as many other rom hacks and the actual vanilla games just a repro version. I did some research and reviews from this company are generally terrible. Bad shipping, orders getting lost, and they also don’t tell you the vanilla games are reproduced so a lot of customers thought they were buying real games only to get fake ones in the mail.

But I just got my bonus from work and said screw it I’m gonna take a chance! It was 98 bucks for all three including shipping and they arrived today! 2 of the 3 save regularly, yellow legacy requires going into a hidden menu and using savestates but it does work. I only found this out after contacting them and saying it wouldn’t save. They sent me a video on how to pull up the hidden menu.

I originally just wanted to write this to show off my find, but thinking about it, kinda shady that this company is profiting off other people’s work/content. Do you guys think that selling these are ok?

I am hyped to have them in my physical collection, and to the people who will say to just flash the rom onto a blank cart yourself I don’t have a computer. My phone is my primary computer.

Beat Emerald!

Decided to give it a try without using a starter because Swampert and Blaziken are just too strong. Fun fun fun!

Game events not progressing

I have progressed quite far into the game and found out events are not progressing. The lottery lady keeps telling me to come back tomorrow and berries do not grow. The wall clock seem to move forward after I restart, so I think RTC is working. Im playing on retroid pocket with mgba retroarch. The rom has the latest patch.

Any one has suggestions? I tried to follow this: https://www.reddit.com/r/PokemonEmerald/comments/1q291ei/how_to_actually_fixreset_the_emerald_rtc_pkhexgb/ but the title screen debug menu does not have time changing option,

I changed the time in the "home" wall clock and tried to advance a day by setting time to 11:59pm, but even after the day shift, events still not refreshing.

Regarding the recent Miltank/third gym video, what would Whitney's and Falkner's teams look like if they swapped places?

And how would you give Falkner a team that's as iconic as Whitney's?

Or would you preserve Miltank on a first gym team?

edit: talking about the "How miltank ruined" video

What the heck was this?

Route 46 is accesible with Rock Smash, going through Dark Cave. I went innocently right after catching Sudowoodo just to explore and find items, and BAM! Trainer with a Lv 40 Rapidash in the face. I guess I will refrain to explore this place till I get to Blackthorn City... This feels like that Scarlet and Violet trianer next to the Elite 4 building...

At least I caught a Shuckle with Rock Smash!

IV maxing, is it worth it? If so, how?

Hi guys, I'm on a crossways.

I have been playing the mod for a while now and I have been trying to breed the perfect Skarmory for a while. First time breeding in Emerald in 10 years and I want to get this bad boy ready for the Battle Frontier. So far so good.

However it's been like 4 hours and I'm burned out lol, is there a way to get perfect IVs aside from breeding, also, is it worth it? Lol, thanks in advance!

Now what do I do....

As someone whose love for the franchise started with the OG Pokemon Red, I have always wanted to complete a Gen 3 living dex. Emerald always seemed like a more complete game than the others ever did.

With how expensive that would have been using official hardware and cartridges it always seemed like a pipe dream till one day I got a video on my YT feed showcasing Emerald Legacy.

A massive shout out to the team for their hard work and dedication to this project to make the game accessible to everyone. Not only does it respect people's time, but it also is such a great feeling knowing that it is possible to feel wonder again at 22 year old game.

Thank you.

(Please ignore the 7 badges. I had to use PKHex to unfuck something and as it wasn't built for the romhack, it had an unfortunate downside)
