Polestar 2 or 4? with or without Plus?

Husband and I were minutes from closing on a 2024 dual motor Pilot Plus Polestar 2, when I noticed the 25k off sale on the 4s.

We’re pretty sure we could get a dual motor polestar 4 without the plus package for 38,800.

I haven’t actually seen the 4 without the plus package, and I fear it might lose the luster that made us reconsider in the first place?

Polestar 4 owners, what do you think? Is Plus a must? Any chance we’re being blindsided by “shiny and new”?

Real-life experience converting a Polestar car from US to Europe?

With the $25k fire sale just announced, it would be irresponsible not to ask if something that looks like a golden opportunity would actually work.

I will be moving back from the US to my home country, which means changing the lights, the charging system, and the software. All costly I am sure, but can it be done at the dealership, without voiding manufacturer's warranty? Did you try it or know from solid sources how it went?

Dash cam doesn't stay recording

I've just received my new MY26 LRDM P4 and can't figure out how to keep the dash cam recording. Every time I get in the car I have to go back into the app, accept the privacy notice and click record again for the little red icon to come up.

From what I can tell, it should be staying on. Other settings seem to persist from drive to drive and there are no outstanding updates.

I've looked through permissions and other settings and can't see anything obviously wrong. Help?

Absolutely fantastic experience with P4 so far - what about you?

I'm about a week deep into my P4 ownership and I've got to say that it has been absolutely perfect, not a single software bug, the car drives like an absolute dream and getting many headturns on the street which always feels great.

I was so close to being scared off from buying this car because of all the negative posts about it on this sub and just comment after comment of software issues etc etc. But after multiple test drives with minimal issues, I decided to pull the trigger. And so far, it has been soooo good.

Maybe everything will turn off and crash tomorrow (knock on wood), but so far it's been perfect.

Am I just lucky? Or are the people suffering from issues just super vocal in this sub?

Anybody with positive experiences that would like to share?

Please comment if so, because undoubtedly people will come to this sub as part of their research and 9/10 times the bad vibes will cause them to turn and run away - which is just a tragedy.

USA Polestar owners: EV options

In spite of the bad news, I still think Polestar has one of the best built EV’s out there. My plan is to enjoy my P4 and drive it for as long as I can. I don’t expect this to be everyone’s experience. But knowing they’ll still be sold in Canada tells me we’ll still see updates and the cars won’t be obsolete. Maintenance is minimal and major issues were already taking a long time so I don’t expect it to change. With that said for those looking for options, this is a list of major EV cars sold in the US and their main issues. I’ve used this as my own reference before deciding on Polestar but sharing it for public consumption.

Tesla: Build quality, rattles, phantom braking
Hyundai: ICCU failures
Kia: ICCU failures, 12V battery drain
Genesis: ICCU concerns
Volkswagen: Software and infotainment issues
Chevrolet: Software bugs
Cadillac: Software and infotainment issues
Ford: Battery contactor/module issues, software glitches
Rivian: Suspension noises, limited service network - this was my second choice
Lucid: Software quirks, limited service network
Nissan: Slower DC fast charging
Toyota: Slow charging
Subaru: Slow charging
Honda: GM software issues
Acura: GM software issues
BMW: Minor software/electronics issues
Audi: Software and charging issues
Mercedes-Benz: Software/electronics complexity
Volvo: Software issues
Fiat: Limited range
Porsche: Too new for long-term reliability trends

**Edit to include my notes on Polestar since people keep asking. I assumed it was obvious because it’s a Polestar Reddit but I’ll add them below. This list is not inclusive and limited to my personal notes and what I focused on. The positives are highlighted in the marketing strategy so I didn’t feel the need to write those down. I just wrote based on real world experiences. Which again doesn’t apply to everyone.

Polestar: Limited service network, weak resale value, occasional software bugs

Polestar 2: TCAM connectivity issues (mostly early models), infotainment glitches, suspension creaks on some cars, 12V battery failures on early builds

Polestar 3: Launch software bugs, occasional camera/sensor faults, OTA updates still improving features

Polestar 4: Software still maturing, missing promised features at launch, occasional key/app connectivity issues, limited service network

New Polestar 4, so many issues

Got a 6k miles Polestar 4 direct from their approved website. Aircon not working on collection and 8 weeks later no fix in sight. ‘Parts not available in the UK‘ is the latest version of the changing story. Folk, I could have walked to wherever the part is and brought it back in this time.

Also issues with reverse cam glitching a lot and just giving white noise on infotainment. Service indicator popping up now and again but it’s a long way short of needing that.

HK sound system configuration

I know that the HK in the P4 is not comparable to the BW system in the P3, but I would like to have it work at least to the best of its capability.

I am not an expert on this kind of configuration, so any tips on how you guys have done it in order to maximize the quality of sound? I listen to music that is voice-heavy and understanding the lyrics / voice clarity is important to me.

Thank you in advance!

P4 at Tesla SuperCharger

I picked up my P4 yesterday and on the way home I had to charge it.... Unfortunately all Ionity stations were broken (in car navigation said they work) and the technician was already onsite to replace a part. But I had no time so moved the car to Tesla SuperCharger stall 10m away and I couldn't activate it... Just random error, Can't start charging

A friendly Tesla driver activated it for me to get at least some juice to reach the next charger. Great guy, thanks again :)

Interesting to see was that the v3 Stall was pumping 230kw into the Car for the entire 10mins I charged it.... I hope to see similar performance on non Tesla chargers but I doubt that...

Polestar Energy app

Hi!

I am wondering if the Polestar Energy app can overide the amp settings in the car.

It would be beneficial to increase the Amp setting when I need the Boost charging in the app. This to maximise the charging speed when necessary.

The reason why I have limited the amp in the car to 6amp is because where I live we do not only pay for the the kWh but also the peak kW. Thefore I want to keep the peak kW down. But sometimes I need to charge as fast as possible.

Happy for any answer or suggestions!

I don't see why I can change the Amp limit from any of the Polestar apps.

Edit: For clarity, this post is about charging at home with AC.

Heat leads to malfunctioning systems

So, this is something new I found. The cameras and the radar sensor do not work when it’s hot outside. It’s 40 degrees where I live. I don’t think it’s hot enough for the cameras to fail or am I wrong? Anyone else have this issue?

Gemini on P4

Hi everyone. Yesterday they activated Google Gemini on my P4 here in Italy. After experimenting with it a bit, though, I can’t really figure out what additional things it can do compared to the old Google voice assistant. It does respond in a more detailed and sophisticated way, and if you want you can also activate a live chat mode, kind of like on your phone.
But when it comes to basic commands—for example, closing the side mirrors or opening the glove compartment—it’s not able to perform them, and that’s left me a bit puzzled.
What experience have you all had with Gemini on the P4 so far? How do you usually use it?

Polestar 4 owners: do you have Google Maps Live Lane Guidance or Park Assist Pilot?

Polestar advertises both features on its Luxembourg website (where i live and where i got my P4):

  • Google Maps Live Lane Guidance
  • Park Assist Pilot (the car detects a parking space and parks itself)

I already have Gemini which was rolled a week or two ago, but I don't have either of these features.

Are these actually available in your country? If so, where?

At this point I'm starting to wonder whether this is simply a slow regional rollout, or whether advertising options that most owners still can't use is getting close to false advertising.

Interested to hear what other P4 owners are seeing.

Rivian R2 review from a P4 Owner

Will keep this somewhat short but this is my opinion on the R2 Performance after a 30min test drive as a 26' P4 owner with the Plus pack (~3000 miles so far). Hopefully this'll help anyone looking between the two.

Build Quality : Honestly seems comparable. My P4 came with a few rattles that I've had to fix myself. The R2 didn't seem to have any rattles but the fact that some of the weather stripping was already loose (could be a demo issue) didn't inspire much confidence either. Would put both as a 8/10

Performance : Despite the R2 Perf advertised as having over 100hp over the P4 DM (656hp vs 544hp) their 0-60 times are nearly equal and it felt this way. Both are unnecessarily fast. Regen braking is pretty similar too. Acceleration curve on the R2 feels more relaxed compared to the P4 though.

Ride : P4 on 20's with the active ZF dampers is far more plush and refined than the R2 on 21's. The R2 damping (on the softest setting) is close to what the P4 feels like if there was a setting between nimble and firm.

Handling : P4 overall feels more responsive than the R2, but the wider stance might be helping it. But I don't think this matters to 95% of buyers, these are SUVs after all.

Software : Rivian's UI seems quirkier/feature packed and marginally snappier to use than Polestar's, and I assume this will only improve with OTAs that I bet Rivian will be pushing out far more often than Polestar (for example, we still haven't gotten digital keys for android despite it being an AAOS platform lmao).

Audio : The R2 speakers are honestly very comparable to the base Tesla sound system (what you get on the M3/Y RWD), though it definitely has the P4 (non-HK) system beat. If I were to give the HK system in the P4 an 8/10, the R2 is about 6/10. Even with a bunch of EQ tuning, it didn't have the range I'm used to.

Materials : Honestly this was the biggest gap. Rivian has some nice wood trim and soft-touch material in the cabin, but it didn't feel 60k nice. The P4 has much nicer materials spread throughout, esp. with the star-knit deco ambiance.

Seats : Both are comfortable, though the P4 does have better bolstering. Rear seat experience in the P4 is much farther ahead though with the Plus pack.

Size : R2 has more space, that's pretty much it. Both feel very roomy, but P4 is still only a liftback after all.

Overall, for what the R2 Perf is priced at - I would personally not be able to justify it compared to the P4 with the current discounts. Otherwise on a pure MSRP basis (60k vs 72k), it's a solid option. The design language and theming of the two are pretty different as expected. R2 feels more outdoorsy and rugged, P4 encapsulates scandinavian luxury.

Aftermarket rims that fit P4 performance

Need to buy a set of rims for winter tires, but I am uncertain how to make sure they'll fit over the performance brakes.

Would any 22" fit? Would 21"?

Also please share a picture if you've bought some aftermarket wheels for your P4 performance.

Buying advice

hi all,

we're in the process of picking the right polestar 4 and we're stuck between 2 different versions (both pre-owned and sold via polestar) :

A. P4 magnesium LRSM, MY26, pilot, plus and 21" sport wheels, 9000km

B. P4 storm LRSM, MY26, pilot, plus and pro, 8000km

we like both of them, the storm is more expensive of 1000 €.

any input is valuable, we're just trying to decide and are currently stuck, feel free to comment.

thanks,

Onur

Can't activate pilot assist anymore

I've had my p4 for a couple of weeks-- just long enough to get in the habit of using pilot on the highway during my commute. Friday morning, drove into work using pilot assist as usual; Friday afternoon, the car won't activate pilot assist and just stays in adaptive cruise control. No warnings or errors that I can find.

  • I don't believe I changed any settings between pilot assist working in the morning and not working in the afternoon
  • I've attempted toggling all related settings
  • I had some insects on the front bumper that showed up in the front camera, cleaned that off but no luck

Has anyone else encountered this? What else should I try?

Thanks!

Random sensor faults

I have this issue happening on and off that when I get into the car none of the sensors work and they remain as such until the next time I get back into the car. There is no pattern, sometimes it happens in the morning as I get into the car to go to work, sometimes on my way back from work etc.

Is it a bug consistent with others or should I have my car checked?
